The concept served our country well till the prohibitionists allied with the democrats at the turn of the 20th century..
It's been downhill since then..

Social liberty and fiscal conservatism are mutually compatible. I agree with that statement, but my sense is that Arnold isn't interested in your (and my) notion of social liberty that means far less government. Instead, he's interested in additional government programs and entitlements, which I call social liberalism.
