To be fair, none of this is Limbaugh's fault. I think the problem may have started in the first place because he was frothing at the mouth again and someone told him to "take a pill." Unfortunately, he may have gone a bit far...

I would want painkillers, but would not self medicate.
If it was terminal, I'd probably want them to pull the plug early.

Bingo... I agree with you guys. I think it's very possible he was using some painkillers. Heck, I have them for cramps, so if someone accused me of abusing them and I was as big a target as he is, you KNOW if I said anything about them, the left would be all over me like flies on...

Rush has been a strong supporter of the WOD. By your definition Rush is a Socialist. Rush is either innocent and wrongly accused or guilty. If he is guilty he is also a loud obnoxious hypocrit, like fellow moralist/conservative Bill Bennett. If he's guilty I hope they give him the legal maximum to make an example of him. Why is it that libertarians call anyone who disagrees with them a socialist?
At any rate, in case you did not know, our drug laws are quite lenient towards drug addicts, and rightfully so. They receive minimal punishment if they agree to go into rehab and show progress. My guess is that Rush is probably already in rehab, or maybe has already completed it.
The only people who get the book thrown at them, and rightfully so, are dealers. No one is accusing Rush of being a dealer.
If Rush gets away with rehab and a slap on the wrist, which seems to be the most likely outcome, he'll have been treated like everyone else. Furthermore, if he accepts the consequences like a man, you can't possibly accuse hims of hypocrisy.
Bennet, BTW, is no hypocrite either. He admitted he had a problem and has taken steps to alleviate it.
Where do you get this idiotic notion that you have to be sinless in order to not be a hypocrite?
To: traditionalist
You're right, Rush is probably not *completely* innocent. On the other hand, the extent of his guilt may not be that great.I agree.
I have no idea the extent of his involvement, but he has, in his own words basically implicated himself by not stating "I am innocent of any allegations of illegal drug use". Simple as that.....

I know all about weening and all that, but sometimes it doesn't work as smoothly as for most. I'm not saying it can't be done, but with the increased scrutiny MDs are getting from the government, it is sometimes too painfully a process for some to deal with inside the 'legal' bounds. For many of those people, especially those with an independent streak, it causes less mental pain to say the hell with the rules and do what they think is best for them.
It's a tough, complicated situation all around.

Well, it's just a regular Rush show now. He has said next to nothing about the drug allegations.
I'll listen, like always, but am under no illusions there will be anything said to clarify the situation.

emotional pain is best not dealt with by using drugs. Make life changes and deal with it. Making "life changes" can include injesting certain collections of molecules that relieve pain. That is a way to "deal with" and cure emotional pain.
Your "just suck it up" stance is the same puritanical mindset that has led to this insane "war on drugs," which is actually a war against people in pain.

He gets in no trouble with a simple denial. Yes he does, if that would be a lie.
I don't doubt there is some truth to the story. I would not be surprised to hear about detox and all that.
The worst thing he could do is wave a crooked finger at his audience and deny it if there is any trith to it at all.
His not denying things is his being honest. He promised to give answers in time. Sounds like he's being honorable.I have no doubt we will hear his side at some point.
Those that dislike him have to be going crazy over this. For they want to see him fall, and they are denied this.

No one has explored the possibility this has become a blackmail investigation...

A word like "Hitlery" is not a word that thrives in the realm of logic and reasoned debate. It is simple name-calling; not only does it fail to advance one's argument, it actually detracts from it. Thank you, Miss Manners.
Now if you and all the other high-minded girlies in the middle-school debating society will just continue to play nice with our Neo-Stalinist opposition, our National Socialist opponents can quickly get back to their slander, wholesale treason and virulent anti-Americanism.
Remember now...be nice, pleeeeese! Otherwise The Pig will only become more easily irratated and might even become angry with us.
To: Valpal1
I think you are overlooking the fact that one of the charges against Martha Stewart is that her public defense of herself was a violation of the law and interference with an investigation. If this is true then it is a case of prosecutors out of control. THEY make a public accusation and a person is not able to defend themselves in public? That's wrong.

It would be more of a problem for him if didn't listen to his attorney. And by the way....the charges are in the media ONLY. They are NOT official charges, are they?
And I said previously..I am sure his attorney advised him NOT to get into a p*ssing contest with the media in the middle of an investigation. Your "denial", in your case, did not come during a police investigation, did it??

The problems always start when someone goes from just stopping pain to achieving pleasure. Once that line is crossed, they are in deep trouble. All drugs tend to have a tolerance, so they have to get more and more.. Usually quickly.
If they stick to helping pain only, this won't happen as often, since the doses don't reach the 'high' part typically.

Look, if someone makes an allegation that you are buying illegal drugs, and you are *completely* innocent, why not just say, "it never happened, I am not involved, or, this is not true"[./?]
Because the real world isn't as nice as your world is.
