SPORTS UPDATE |
GOLF - In case you were stressing over Tiger Woods golf game, we are here to tell you that Tiger is going to change his game a bit. Well, sort of. In CNNSI, Tiger Woods is changing back to his Nike driver. To find out more about this "compelling" story, click on his Sports Illustrated cover. |
|
NFL - If you were curious as to what Donovan McNabb thought about Rush Limbaugh's comments, you'll have to click his picture on the right hand side to find out. Let's put it for you this way: Rush Limbaugh need not worry about getting a Christmas card from Mr. McNabb. |
|
MLB - Kerry Wood pitched a stellar game Tuesday night to show that the Cubbies are serious about getting to the World Series. As an added bonus, he helped himself and his team with his bat. For all of those people that thought the Cubbies were going to be pummeled by the explosive Braves offense, you are probably stunned. For the rest of us, we look forward to a great playoff match up. |
|
NBA - LeBron James has been heralded as the "next big thing" in the NBA. For the amount of money he is being paid, he will have to show that he truly is the best. To learn more about LeBron James, click on his photo. The Cleveland Cavaliers are banking on his basketball abilities. What do you think? Will he help or hurt? |
|
NHL - -- Atlanta Thrashers star Dany Heatley was charged Tuesday with reckless driving after his sports car swerved off a road and careened into a wall at about 80 mph, breaking his jaw and critically injuring a teammate. Click the photo for the story. |

WHAT DID WE LEARN THIS PAST WEEKEND? 1. The Pac 10 will probably go another season without a National Champion. After USC fell to Cal, the Pac 10 lost out with no one left in the conference undefeated. 2. Northern Illinois is for real. For all those people that thought that the Huskies of Northern Illinois were a joke, a reality check is in order. Good luck the rest of the season.
3. It doesn't matter how well you recruit in college football. If your coaching isn't up to standard, those great players will always be overshadowed in big games. Hello Texas and Kansas State!
4. The "Quack Attack" of Oregon has been silenced. After a victory over Michigan the previous Saturday, Oregon lost badly to Washington State. Oregon was looking to garner some respect for their program. After the Michigan victory, they looked ready to take their place. Unfortunately, Wazzu came to play. 5. The Arizona desert isn't for everyone. For Coach John Mackovic, it definitely isn't for him. He was "relieved of duty" after starting 1-4 this season as the head coach of Arizona. He had a tumultuous year last season with a player's "mutiny". His style of coaching and the players style of play didn't mesh too well. |
GAME BALLS
THE GOOD We give a Game Ball to those brainiacs at Cal. Congratulations are in order after a wonderful win over the mighty Trojans of USC. We give a Game Ball to the Huskies of Washington. They started off the season in a dismal way versus Ohio State. Since that game, they have managed to climb back up in the polls and win impressively. Hard work and believing in yourself does pay off. The Minnesota Gophers are having a stellar year so far. They are undefeated and just finished beating Penn State this past Saturday. For many in the Big Ten, it is a welcome sight to see someone outside of Michigan and Ohio State doing so well. Last season at this time Michigan State QB Jeff Smoker was not playing. Having violated the substance abuse policy of the NCAA, he was suspended. Having gotten his act together, he is showing that perseverance can be rewarded. Congratulations to this QB for turning his life around and making a difference for his school and teammates. A Game Ball goes out to Texas Tech QB B.J. Symons. He passed for a Big 12 record of 661 yards. Very impressive! THE UGLY Florida State head coach, Bobby Bowden, wrote a letter this week in support of a former player who is guilty of rape. The family of the victim is outraged and rightly so. An Alabama Crimson Tide fan was so irate over the loss of his beloved Tigers to the Arkansas Razorbacks that he shot his son. He fired a gun at his 20 year old son, Seth Logan. And what did Seth do to deserve this type of outburst? He merely picked the wrong time to ask for the car. This week a jury awarded a woman who accused a Notre Dame football player of rape 1 million dollars. Clifton Jefferson, former ND football player, was never charged with rape. Yet, there was enough evidence for the jury to find in the rape victim's favor. Ironic considering the prosecutors in Jefferson's case didn't think so. |
CONGRATULATIONS 7thson
Congratulations to 7thson for being this week's Canteen NFL Pick winner. 7thson picked 11 of 14 teams correctly. While he didn't choose MoJo's Bengals to win, he did choose most of the others correctly. We salute you for your football insights for this week!! So? Let's stop the chit chat and show you what "prizes" you can pick from this week:
Congratulations! Choose this prize and you can have all the MRE's you want. We aren't sparing any expense for this one. Have all the yummy food your stomach can handle. With MRE's, there's no need to worry about cooking, doing dishes, or dining with others. Nothing to cook and no dishes to do with these very convenient meals. As for those annoying dinner dates, that's not a problem either. You can show them your ready supply of MRE's and they won't return. This is a toughie! Which one do you choose? Well, here's another "prize" that you can take advantage of. Since we noticed that you are a Navy Vet, we decided to offer you the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these hapless losers. So? We've given you the opportunity to send one of these "people" to your own private Boot Camp--Navy Style! You can have all the Marines and Navy personnel that you need. (We are sure you will find volunteers for this!) You can set up obstacle courses that will allow Barney or Michael Moore to run through alligator infested swamps. Or, you can set up obstacle courses where they run right by all the food they'd ever want to eat. The only catch? Well, the doors and windows will be locked. That's right! And you get to set up your own rules. So? If you don't want to give them water for a week, so be it. If you want them to wear a paper bag over their head for a week, that's fine. After all, it's your "prize". We know these are tough choices, but someone has to do it. Why not you?
We at the Canteen would like to say "Thank You" to 7thson for his service to America.
Good luck with your picks this week. Please don't forget to FReepmail MoJo2001 with your picks. You must do so by Midnight Saturday eastern time. Have fun everyone!! |
WHAT DID WE LEARN AFTER WEEK FOUR?
1. The Cincinnati Bengals do know how to win a game. Let's hope it isn't their last victory of the season.
2. Perhaps, Tommy Maddox is human after all?
3. Kordell Stewart is overrated. He was in Pittsburgh and looks to be that way in Chicago.
4. Never open up a stadium in Chicago and then invite the Packers to play in the first game. Invite a team like the Bengals instead.
5. The Houston Texans are actually good this year. If you learn to protect your QB, it's amazing the results you will see.
6. Brenda Warner cannot keep her mouth shut. After seeing her hubby, Kurt Warner benched, she once again talks to the media that they are thinking about looking beyond the St. Louis Rams after the season.
7. Bill Parcells really is having a lot of fun coaching again. |

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full. |
|
You think you're hot? Our military forces in Iraq sweat it out in 130 degree heat everyday! |
|
Cool Our Troops is a non-profit effort to 'Cool' our troops in Iraq. They are raising funds to send personal misters to 50,000 military personnel serving in Iraq. The misters are portable, no batteries or electricity required, and rely on evaporation to cool surrounding temperatures by 20-30 degrees. |

A PRAYER OF PROTECTION
The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are,God is, And all is well. Amen.
Bless This House
Bless this house O Lord we pray;
Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout,
Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall,
Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove
ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright,
Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there,
with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within,
keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be
Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we
May dwell O Lord with thee.
