The President had a very busy day. He spoke at a signing ceremony for the first Homeland Security funding bill (for 2004); met with White House General Counsel Alberto R. Gonzales, Chief of Staff Andrew Card, and Homeland Security Advisor John Gordon; Pakistan's Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, who expressed cooperation in the the war on terrorism and a mutual desire to deepen bilateral relations; and NASA administrators, and space crew, the latter being members of the International Space Station crew 6.
He met with Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe in the Oval Office to discuss security issues, and also toured a Davenport, Iowa, Sears manufacturing plant that makes farm equipment seats.
Laura Bush gave television and press interviews; spoke at a book festival organized by Mrs. Putin that was modeled on Mrs. Bush's book fairs in the US; and went to the Bolshoi Theater with Mrs. Putin, Mrs. Kocharian of Armenia, and Mrs. Pyruanov of Bulgaria, to see Don Quixote.

No forgiveness needed. (I'm the expert at forgetting stuff -- and so live by the hope that some things *are* better late than never.) ;)
Thanks for remembering.

Hey now. I'm old enough to remember having civil defense drills in elementary school, and watching some show in '83 'bout the bomb going off and the aftermath (it had Steve Guttenburg in it...)
Yeppers, I'm glad Reagan did what he did to keep the commie (bleep) from nuking everyone. Now I'm waiting for Dubya to step on some terrorist (bleep)
Oops. Sorry. I was getting a little carried away...

***Hey now. I'm old enough to remember having civil defense drills in elementary school***
L0L! I'm old enough to remember when my kids had civil defense drills in elementary school.
For that matter, I remember precisely what I was doing the day Pearl Harbor was attacked.

Thanks for the birthday wishes.
Soooooooooooooo .. whadda ya do on your special day?
You ready to hear about my excitement!?
I spent the afternoon at the dentist office -- and had two teeth fixed. ;) ... I told the dentist that as far as celebrations go, I'd had a better time, but it wasn't too bad.
I then came home and crashed to get past the novacaine headache (and then read the Dose sometime after midnight or so last night ... don't worry; I didn't pout too long re the missed birthday mention. In fact, I wondered if I'd forgotten to add my "info" to the "Dose stats").
Earlier in the day my mom, sister, and sister-in-law stopped by though.
Today I had lunch with my daughter and youngest granddaughter. And we shared chocolate-hot fudge cake for dessert. ;)

I don't know if you were talking to me or rintense, but I don't think I'm a fan of the Power Station that I'm aware of.
BTW, It's back atcha, and I'm out for dinner.
You all have a great night and happy belated birthday Fawnn. Sorry no special pictures but I hope it was a good one.

You old enough to remember how all of the "sensible" people back then said that if Reagan would only get rid of all our nukes, the Soviets would see how nice and serious we were and would then get rid of theirs? (I prefer the way Reagan handled the situation myself. I could go into current peacenik comparisons, but you get the idea....) ;)

AN EVENING WITH THE PRESIDENT
What an evening; what a president!!
CHRONOLOGY:
My 11-year-old daughter, Danielle, and I arrived at the Lindner home (Carl Lindner owns the Cincy Reds) at approximately 3:30 PM for the 6:30 PM event . . . we had been advised to get there EARLY so that we could position
ourselves on the 'rope line' before the other 1,198 people arrived!
I knew the evening was going to be special after speaking with an incredibly sweet Secret Service Officer at the front gate . . . his wit and thoughtfulness enabled Danni and I to begin tour adventure with a smile!
After parking our car (and having another uplifting conversation with a Secret Service officer), Danni and I talked with the Boy Scout honor guards (you'd never see Boy Scouts at a DNC event!), bantered with the security
guards (and their dogs. . . Danni LOVES dogs), and then walked up the faux bridge into the tent.
Once inside, we immediately selected our spot on the rope line and then began visually exploring our environment. The tent was beautifully decorated with flags/bunting, Bush-Cheney reflected lighting, fruit and flower topiaries, and artfully arranged food trays. I immediately helped
myself to the shrimp while Danni desparately searched for pizza -- no luck!!
We then spent the next 2½ hours meeting fellow Republicans! What an incredible group of people -- doctors, lawyers, judges, teachers, and lots and lots of entrepreneurs/business people. The family next to us on the ropeline (mom, dad, two sons and their wives) owns several successful businesses in the Cincy and Denver area . . . they had started with nothing and are now millionaires . . . they were sooooooooooooo upbeat and
passionate about their family, their business, their country and their President (as was EVERYONE else that I met; it was absolutely inspirational)!!
The gentleman next to me had recently graduated from Boston College and Harvard Business School. He now works for a playing cards company in Cincy; in fact, he had designed the Iraqi "Most Wanted" cards for our military and planned to explain this to the President!! Behind me stood
several business leaders and radio personality, Billy Cunningham (for those of you familiar with 700WLW, it's THAT Billy Cunningham -- he was actually VERY charming and quite supportive of the President!).
Finally, the moment came: "Ladies and gentleman, the President of the United States, George W Bush!"
Pandemonium: The applause was deafening; the flashbulbs were blinding; and the President was BEAMING!
. . . Tomorrow night, I'll share the rest of the story and provide some pixes too [and no, I didn't get a pix of the 'peck on the cheek' although I did get a 'quasi' pix of him holding my hand -- sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ]

LOL! As I said last night when she was wearing that dreadful ill-fitting tapestry suit, Vlad needs to get someone to help her with her clothes! She has a sweet face and her beauty should be emphasized; Ludmilla's clothes are NOT flattering!

WOW, these pictures of our Laura are wonderful. And our W is not too hard on the eyes either. ;-)
Thanks for pitching in and adding to our pleasure, Maigrey
