WHICH MCCLINTOCK TO BELIEVE? TOM PROMISED HE WOULDN'T BE A SPOILER
KFI 640

On today's RECALL CENTRAL on KFI 640, they had the head of the "Lincoln Republicans" of Orange County. He stated that Tom McClintock had assured him that he would not stay in the race to play spoiler if it looked like he couldn't win. He promised that he would bow out before the election if his numbers didn't assure victory.
Other Cal GOP leaders were quoted as saying the same.
And yet, McClintock has vowed to stay in the race to the bitter end.
So, the question is ...
Which McClintock do we believe?

I am, as of yet, not convinced that Tom's presence on the Oct. 7 ballot will spoil anything. The polls back you up. And what polls were those; those showing Arnold just ahead of bustamante but within reach if the undecideds go to cruz?
My tagline is still true.

One more addition to that thought:
Telling Issa and others that he wouldn't be a spoiler
if it looks like he can't win was probably not a lie at all, because a gambler ALWAYS thinks he'll win, by some
miracle, and is dumbfounded when it doesn't work out.

Darn, I guess posting this one will be a waste of my time then, but I do agree with Jim in so many areas....
I'm pro-life, pro-God, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-Constitution, pro-freedom and pro-America. I'm for less taxes, for smaller less intrusive government, for strong national defense. I am anti-feminaziism, anti-homosexual agenda, anti-homosexual marriage, anti-extra-constitutional rights for any class or group of people, anti-illegal immigration, anti-drivers licenses for illegal aliens, anti-liberal give away programs attracting illegal immigrants, anti-wealth redistribution, anti-bureaucracy, anti-liberal and anti-Democrat. I'm anti-global warming treaty (it's a farce), anti-junk science, anti-UN, anti-environmentalism and I'm pro-drilling. I'm anti-income tax, anti-big government, anti-social security, anti-mediscare, anti-goverment schools, and for a repeal of the 16th and 17th amendments. I'm anti-universal healthcare, anti-government forced insurance coverage and anti-union for government workers. I'm for everyone paying their own medical expenses and providing for their own retirements where they can. I'm pro-business, pro-entrepreneur and pro-individualism. I'm pro-SUV, pro-4WD, pro-BBQ, pro-sleeping under the stars. I'm anti-corruption, anti-Clinton (any of them), likewise anti-Kennedy. I'm half-horse, half alligator and part snapping turtle. I can turn a jack, I can lay a track. I was born standing up and talking back.
Now who do you think I'll vote for?

Jim's comments were not an iota different in content than what many of us have been saying through this whole thing.
It has been rather humorous, in a darkly ironic way, to watch people's quite different reactions to when he says it than when one of us says it.

Thank you EGDan!
I am really concerned at this point that CRP politics is wired to support anybody rather than a conservative candidate, and will sell out all the party planks and principles in order to "win."
It is my opinion that if the Republican Party wins by backing a candidate indistinguishable from any given Democrat, we have lost the two party system in this state.
If we can't vote principle, then what is to encourage candidates of principle to remain and develop in this party?

So, I wonder what really lies at the heart of their obvious distaste for such a fine conservative man? Wake up at 2AM night sweating fear and the memory of Simon in '02.

My tagline is still true. No, it is your assertion. Not being a prophet, you don't know the future.
To: Mike Darancette
Wake up at 2AM night sweating fear and the memory of Simon in '02. That's fine. But that doesn't justify the way Tom McClintock has been treated by the AS brigade.

No, it is your assertion. Not being a prophet, you don't know the future. An assertion based on fact.
Yours is opinion based on desire.
Big diff.

On the one hand, I don't think Matt's vanity commentary and query, "is [Tom] a man of his word?" constitute any sort of "vicious" attack on McClintock of the sort Jim was decrying. Seems like pretty fair comment to me.
ON the other hand, setting aside the fact that Matt probably should have included "(VANITY)" in the headline, I don't even know whether Tom DID give his word, to Issa or to anyone else, that he (Tom) would not be a spoiler -- i.e., that he would drop out under certain late-in-the-race polling conditions suggesting a possible spoiler scenario.
Issa keeps saying Tom said this, and I'm not suggesting that Issa is LYING, but I don't know what exact words were exchanged between the two men. I just have Issa's post-hoc interpretation of it, namely that Issa feels a little misled. That may be the result of a "broken promise," but my guess is that it's more likely the result of an honest misunderstanding.

How is quoting JR any different than citing the support AS has received from people like Brulte or Drier, etc., etc. Seems to me it is all fair game. If you respect Brulte, as I do, then citing him as supporting AS is noteworthy. Likewise, if you respect JR's opinion, as I do, then his opinion about the hits McClintock has been taking is also noteworthy.
