WHICH MCCLINTOCK TO BELIEVE? TOM PROMISED HE WOULDN'T BE A SPOILER
KFI 640 | Matt Garrett

Posted on 10/01/2003 2:01:48 PM PDT by MattGarrett

On today's RECALL CENTRAL on KFI 640, they had the head of the "Lincoln Republicans" of Orange County. He stated that Tom McClintock had assured him that he would not stay in the race to play spoiler if it looked like he couldn't win. He promised that he would bow out before the election if his numbers didn't assure victory.

Other Cal GOP leaders were quoted as saying the same.

And yet, McClintock has vowed to stay in the race to the bitter end.

So, the question is ...

Which McClintock do we believe?

I didn't realize that reporting what I heard on the radio was considered a "vanity."

I'm sadly disappointed that so many people have taken it upon themselves to attack McClintock so viciously. McClintock is a fine conservative with a great record and does not deserve this abuse. I can understand that people don't think he can beat Arnold due to his money, fame, name recognition and backing by Wilson and other big name Republicans, etc, but this does not mean McClintock should have his name and reputation dragged through the mud. Whatever happens this election, we will still need conservatives like McClintock in California. Wish we had more like him.

He promised that he would bow out before the election

I believe he still a few days to do this. So it's a little premature to call him a liar.

You should've heard Senor Gasbag on Hannity just now. Hannity had some specific questions for McClintalk based on previous discussions with Arnold.

McClintalk couldn' t be bothered to responsiveness - after his plug for the notion that the spaceship will come and sweep them to victory via a grassroots effort, Tommy Boy proceeded to talk over Sean to the point that Sean just ended it and broke to a commercial.

Using Jim's opinion is a cheap debating tactic. I've seen posters do this with other issues such as the drug war. Do Jim's quotes somehow makes their opinion more valid?

Gee, I don't know. Which element of Arnold's commanding lead is causing your confusion?

At this stage whatever he does may not make a difference in the outcome. But, it may make a difference in how he is preceived in future endeavors.... There have been various indications from different people/sources as to what McClintock said or indicated he would do. McClintock hasn't addressed any to my knowledge other than to maintain his insistance that he is staying in till the end...

But he is entitled, don'tcha know...... to do as he chooses.....

Ray Haynes Endorsement

[snip]...Tom was not at those meetings, and Darrell asked me what I thought Tom would do if he financed the recall. I told him I didn't know, but Darrell would have a persuading argument to ask him to step aside, since Tom could not have made it work without Darrell's help. I know Darrell talked to Tom about not running. Tom ultimately decided not to reconsider. Issa is a strong conservative, and was, more than any other, responsible for the success of the recall, but Tom's believed he should be Governor. That was one of the principal reasons (though not the only one) Darrell chose not to run. We lost a solid conservative, who could have financed his own campaign, and got a solid conservative who could not, because Tom believed he was entitled to the Governor's office. [end snip

Do you interpret Jim to mean that McClintock should get a "pass" when he lies and breaks promises?
