At this stage whatever he does may not make a difference in the outcome. But, it may make a difference in how he is preceived in future endeavors.... There have been various indications from different people/sources as to what McClintock said or indicated he would do. McClintock hasn't addressed any to my knowledge other than to maintain his insistance that he is staying in till the end...

But he is entitled, don'tcha know...... to do as he chooses.....

Ray Haynes Endorsement

[snip]...Tom was not at those meetings, and Darrell asked me what I thought Tom would do if he financed the recall. I told him I didn't know, but Darrell would have a persuading argument to ask him to step aside, since Tom could not have made it work without Darrell's help. I know Darrell talked to Tom about not running. Tom ultimately decided not to reconsider. Issa is a strong conservative, and was, more than any other, responsible for the success of the recall, but Tom's believed he should be Governor. That was one of the principal reasons (though not the only one) Darrell chose not to run. We lost a solid conservative, who could have financed his own campaign, and got a solid conservative who could not, because Tom believed he was entitled to the Governor's office. [end snip

...and no wonder Ray Haynes didn't endorse McClintock.

Let me guess the other one: There's no way he would be able to clarify his multiple arrests without destroying his relationship with his brother, whom he claims was arrested while using his identity.

(Either that, or the "mistaken identity" stuff is a lot of hooey, and his brother wasn't ready to put himself on the cross for Darrell.)

Issa's arrests would have become Demo cannon fodder in the campaign, and would have derailed him eventually. On the other hand, there are no such charges against McClintock -- the best they've been able to do heretofore is that one of his advisors is too durned Christian.

Issa would also have to fight the notion that he was trying to buy his way into the Governor's mansion -- one that wouldn't be totally inaccurate.
