WHICH MCCLINTOCK TO BELIEVE? TOM PROMISED HE WOULDN'T BE A SPOILER
KFI 640 | Matt Garrett

Posted on 10/01/2003 2:01:48 PM PDT by MattGarrett

On today's RECALL CENTRAL on KFI 640, they had the head of the "Lincoln Republicans" of Orange County. He stated that Tom McClintock had assured him that he would not stay in the race to play spoiler if it looked like he couldn't win. He promised that he would bow out before the election if his numbers didn't assure victory.

Other Cal GOP leaders were quoted as saying the same.

And yet, McClintock has vowed to stay in the race to the bitter end.

So, the question is ...

Which McClintock do we believe?

How many freepers would support Daschle and attack those not voting for him? I'd say about 50%.

There was a FReeper the other day who claimed he would vote for a Republican Stalin over a Democrat Hitler. I swear I'm not making this up.

Tommy Boy proceeded to talk over Sean to the point that Sean

Great, good for Tom! Like I said, Tom got 50% in 02, no reason he can't repeat. Good Freepers should let this play out.

I can understand New Yorkers voting for Hillery and Left Coasters voting for Arnold, but I thought Freepers were more than 'sheeple'.

"Lincoln Republicans" of Orange County

No such organization.

Not to fan flames, but don't you think Tom's
actions are completely consistent......
with those of a gambler?

From the "Seabiscuit" analogy to the casino money
to the denial of polling facts, he still insists it's a
long shot he can win.

I never could understand the gambling mentality.
I have no faith in it.

I am, as of yet, not convinced that Tom's presence on the Oct. 7 ballot will spoil anything.

Let me be the first to state that I don't believe you.

Spaceship is leaving in 30 minutes.

Please ensure you and your family, friends and fellow McClintock supporters have your boarding passes, decoder rings, and photo ID.

Destination?

Who cares.

You're damn right I'd support Stalin were he a Republican running against Hitler the Democrat.

Tom is what he is and at this point I think the arguing is academic. It's just not an issue any longer. Here's why I think this.

By absentee ballot, Tom has likely already received 35-40% of his votes. In the next six days he'll obtain another 5-10% by that method. In some places early voting started about a week ago. Tom has already received some of them. Even if Tom withdrew today, he would more than likely recieve 80 to 90% of the votes he would have recieved on election day, even if he hadn't withdrawn.

IMO it's pointless to talk about Tom at this point. The 1-2% of the vote that might be affected just wouldn't be worth it. And I'm not convinced more than a very few votes would be changed anyway.

All we can do now is sit back and sip some coffee and watch this shipwreck happen.

Tom has done what he thought he had to. I stridently disagree with him. He has destroyed my ability to support him in the future, but arguing about Tom at this point is a waste of time.

We're six days before the election and haven't seriously focused on Davis or Bustamante. That speaks for itself. In this election this forum did little more than provide an arena for conservatives to do battle against each other.

Yo Davis. Yo Bustamante. I guess you're welcome.

My guess is that if Jim wants to comment in a thread, he knows how to do it. B'sides that, appeals to authority are not only a fallacious but also a rather childish form of argument.

Using Jim's opinion is a cheap debating tactic. I've seen posters do this with other issues such as the drug war. Do Jim's quotes somehow makes their opinion more valid?

If you don't like Jim Robinson's quotes we can start posting Arnold in his own words...

“My relationship to power and authority is that I’m all for it. People need somebody to watch over them,” he explained. “Ninety-five percent of the people in the world need to be told what to do and how to behave.”

The polls back you up.

All this time the AS supporters were claiming their atrocious attacks on Tom were because he was going to elect Bustamante.

But there is even less evidence of that now than there was previously.

So, I wonder what really lies at the heart of their obvious distaste for such a fine conservative man?

Certainly some of them have just got in the habit and can't break it, but there are others who just plain hate conservatives.

Actually I agree with Jim's comments. I'm just saying, don't try to score debating points just because he happens to own the site and agrees with you.
