Tom is what he is and at this point I think the arguing is academic. It's just not an issue any longer. Here's why I think this.

By absentee ballot, Tom has likely already received 35-40% of his votes. In the next six days he'll obtain another 5-10% by that method. In some places early voting started about a week ago. Tom has already received some of them. Even if Tom withdrew today, he would more than likely recieve 80 to 90% of the votes he would have recieved on election day, even if he hadn't withdrawn.

IMO it's pointless to talk about Tom at this point. The 1-2% of the vote that might be affected just wouldn't be worth it. And I'm not convinced more than a very few votes would be changed anyway.

All we can do now is sit back and sip some coffee and watch this shipwreck happen.

Tom has done what he thought he had to. I stridently disagree with him. He has destroyed my ability to support him in the future, but arguing about Tom at this point is a waste of time.

We're six days before the election and haven't seriously focused on Davis or Bustamante. That speaks for itself. In this election this forum did little more than provide an arena for conservatives to do battle against each other.

Yo Davis. Yo Bustamante. I guess you're welcome.

I think this may be what some of the folks in this fight intended all along -- instead of focusing on Cruz/Davis, their attacks from day one against Arnold set the stage for no talk about the RATs. The DemocRATs have been doing this for years and are quite good at splitting groups. I refuse to believe some of the spin I have seen written on here is from conservatives. If it is, then I don't know those type of conservatives.

The clincher to me is that Issa and other Conservative Republicans have said that Tom told them he won't be a spoiler but they have chosen to believe one man instead of the others when they are all conservatives. For me, I basically gave up when they started spinning the Indian donations along with the glowing praise from the DemocRATs -- if they couldn't see through that then I have my real doubts about their being Republican to begin with.

At times, it has felt like some of the pro-McC folks are reading from talking point papers. No one will ever convince me that calling all of us RINO's along with some very conservative Republican politicians was not sent out to a group of folks. First time I saw Issa called a RINO some of the McC people on here now could not believe it happened either.

Think we have at least two groups maybe three that belong to the McC supporters. We have the people that truly believe in McC and what he stands for, the people that are here to cause trouble from the enemy, and some people here to cause trouble from within conservatave ranks. Guess that does make three groups. When I see conservatives posting about moving to a 3rd Party that speaks volumes about their agenda!

Good point, D1. I would think that the reason for the infighting and non-focus on Davis and Bustamante is that it's a foregone conclusion that all California Freepers would vote FOR the recall, and certainly not for Bustamante. But that assumption is proving to be incorrect in the closing days of the recall race. I'm sure you've seen, as I have, comments from supposed-McClintock supporters to the effect that "Davis would be better than Arnold," and that "Bustamante would be better than Arnold." I've been saying that the "my-way-or-the-highway" attitude of a good number of people on FR toward this (and just about every other) election is infantile at best, suicidal at worst.
