KUWAIT CITY (AP)--Kuwaiti security authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle $60 million worth of chemical weapons and biological warheads from Iraq to an unnamed European country, a Kuwaiti newspaper said Wednesday.
The pro-government Al-Siyassah, quoting an unnamed security source, said the suspects had been watched by security since they arrived in Kuwait and were arrested "in due time." It didn't say when or how the smugglers entered Kuwait or when they were arrested.
The paper said the smugglers might have had accomplices inside Kuwait. It said Interior Minister Sheik Nawwaf Al Ahmed Al Sabah would hand over the smuggled weapons to an FBI agent at a news conference, but didn't say when.
Government officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
Iraqi Interior Minister Nouri Al-Badran met Tuesday with Sheik Nawwaf and discussed cooperation between the two countries in security matters. His visit is the first by an Iraqi interior minister to Kuwait since 1990.

Great post. When the press wonders why so many people believe Iraq was at least a help mate in 9/11, it's because they have read reports like yours.

So it was Saddam that had the lock box the whole time.

My guess? Someone shot off his mouth without the US's approval...(If story is true...) it'd be if the Kuwaitis screwed up nabbing the conspirators on the the European side of this deal.

My gut has always told me that Iraq was the supplier of the anthrax...They wanted to see it work and how we would react.
As usual, Usama used our stuff, i.e., the report speculating distributing Anthrax through the mail. Saddam is the chem/bio expert. Usama is the demolition expert but also has the people to move around and they did.

... empty warheads designed for delivering chem/bio weapons were found, and that no chem/bio substances were involved. This is exactly what I wondered when I first read it, which may explain the lack of media coverage.

There is no way to know for sure, but I seriously doubt that smugglers would smuggle empty warheads all the way into Europe.
Unless, of course, the warheads were French. This may very well be another brilliant example of French covert operations!

Unless that's where the contents are for those warheads.

Okay, Drudge has it on his site but it's not flashing or looking too much like breaking news. If this is for real FREEPERS need to know! Anyone heard anything else?

I think everyone is using the same source and waiting for clarification. It's the usual...they post it and worry about accuracy later.

Well, well, well... look what we have here. Iraqi arms being smuggled OUT of Iraq. I'm surely hoping this gets confirmed. If it does, the RATS have taken just enough rope for the job to be finished.

Yes, the FBI does do this, now. Back as late as the 1980's, seeing the FBI outside the USA was very uncommon.
Indeed, I am pretty sure the FBI was in on the USS Cole investigation.
