Yeah, and getting drunk, using the foulest of language, and making an ass of yourself before twelve year old kids, wives and girlfriends who only want to see a game, is a rite of passage also. To Hell.

LOL! Now it's become clear that you're merely projecting your own confused identity issues. Go back to your macrame and floral arrangements, toots. Football is a guy-thing, and obviously beyond your comprehension.

What really upsets me about all of this is that McNabb IS overrated, but not because of race. I don't think there's an NFL team that hasn't had a quarterback controversy at one time or another. There are a lot of reasons why. The only time I remember that a controversy had to do with color was Doug Williams at Tampa. And that was their loss.
The McNabb controversy was not over his skin color, and shame on Rush for making it so. I think Rush's comments were as bad as the ones that got Howard Cosell sacked.

Really, I just get excited when some dumb butt tries to make a sporting activity anything other than what it is.
I think a knee jerk reaction is to seek to project one's sports activities onto something that has actual consequences, such as war.
I certainly don't know you but from your reaction I can only gather that you would make a perfect REMF in an actual war.

I saw this live on ESPN, and Tom Jackson and Michael Irvin DID NOT EVEN FLINCH when Rush made his remarks. Nor did Steve Young or Boomer.

Excuse me Michael but Wesley Clark is the last person who should be talking. He sat back and allowed over 800,000 Rawandans to be slaughtered with garden tools. I say there is a definate difference between Wesley Clark who sat back with his thumbs up his ass, and Rush saying something that at best was ill-timed.
I was honored to be able to make it onto the Mark Levin show here in NY 770 WABC and speak about this issue. I hate liberals. They are such blazing hypocrites. I was just glad I was able to tell them with an audience of millions.

We gather and watch McNabb each season. We are Eagles fans.
McNabb is inconsistent. You never know which McNabb will show up. Spare me the black white crap. Winning is the thing we all want. A quarterback could have a damn purple tinge and green hair in an Eagles uniform and we would cheer him on every game. Fans should not be having more fun cheering a 3rd stringer in an NFL game rather than the millionaire #1. This McNabb fellow flatlines in big games.
Go Eagles

Makes you wonder how badly they would have beaten them if they had had a decent QB at the helm.

As much as I love Rush, he has fallen victim to the same trap he alway's warns Republicans to be wary of. Beware when the media pretends to be your friend. This was a set up from the word go, ESPN acting like they were being his friend to set him up for the kill. Rush has nobody to blame but himself.

I also thought we were over that deal. McNab is not a franchise-carrying quarterback (ala Michael Vick or Kurt Warner - at least until this year), but he's not as awful as someone like Ryan Leaf was.Poor Ryan Leaf, there were such high expectations: Leaf.
Quincy Carter, a second round pick of the Dallas Cowboys three years ago, is looking a lot better this year under Coach Bill Parcells reign.

I heard it... He said something like "you'd think I'd said I wished the South had won the Civil War, and all that entails" -- not a slam on the modern South at all.

I think you need to re-check your conclusion.
That is a direct slam on modern Southern intellectuals, not, apparently, phony conservatives like Rush.

Hogwash. *I* heard what he said, in context. *You* didn't. I have been a Southerner all my life & there was no reason to take offense.

What do you think Rush means by 'and all that entails?'

I think he means that if he'd said such a thing, he would expect to be painted as a bigot for it (like what happened to Trent Lott, for instance).

I wish the South had won their battle for independence. I do believe a whole lot of misery would have been averted if the country had split.
Are you implying that makes me a de facto bigot, even though I am a Billy Yank?

No, I don't even disagree... but so what? Rush was talking about public perception, not reality. There are lots of people who would automatically equate support for the Confederacy with support for slavery / Jim Crow / etc. So he would expect that to be a controversial statement, as opposed to the innocuous comments he did make.

You are too kind (to Rush), but a friend in need is a friend in deed.
I can respect that.

To say that Rush's "sports knowledge" is lacking is nothing more than your opinion and I found him as informed as anyone not "in the sprots media" like John Clayton, who travels and talks to menmbers of each team.
I hardly consider his career QB rating of 77.5 "putting up good numbers." Sure he's had a good game, like against Atlanta in the playoffs, but you miss the point. Most of the hype about him is a media creation. I remember the fawning press when his QB rating was in the 60's.
No doubt, you're one of those people who said "Reagan's just an actor, and should stick with what he knows best." I find it interesting the number of people who assume a person is only One thing, and knows only one thing.

Call the wambulance, gaspar had his feelings hurt by somebody at a sporting event and now hates all sports fans. Probably just jealous the 12 year old knew the swear words better than you. The you close off by swearing, Mr. Pot I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Kettle.
