Warning of more Bay Area bombings
ANIMAL RIGHTS NOTE THREATENS FIRMS
By Dana Hull
Mercury News

The militant animal rights activists who claimed responsibility for the bombings of two Bay Area businesses in a month have vowed in a defiant communique to double the size of the bombs they will use in future attacks.

Cars in company parking lots could be packed with explosives, they warn. Companies that do business with Huntingdon Life Sciences, a British firm that conducts animal testing, ``are considered legitimate targets'' of violence. Even family members of company workers shouldn't consider themselves safe.

``You never know when your house, your car even, might go boom,'' said the communique, which was posted on some animal rights Web sites four days after the attack on the Pleasanton offices of a health and beauty products company. Later, it stresses that ``we will be non-violent when the (sic) these people are non-violent to the animal nations.''

The note, taunting in tone, escalates the rhetoric from a little-known group that claims that it also planted two bombs at an Emeryville biotech firm in late August. The FBI's domestic terrorism squad is investigating both bombings, and a number of Bay Area companies that contract with Huntingdon are increasing security measures. Some have removed their addresses or names of employees from company Web sites, while others screen incoming calls.

``The last communique threatened violence, and this one promises it,'' said Steven Best, an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Texas-El Paso who studies radical politics.

"You never know when your house, your car even, might go boom...we will be non-violent when the (sic) these people are non-violent to the animal nations."

This is a big deal. What appear to be foreign terrorists have singled out one company, followed it from overseas to the United States, and threatened and intimidated its employees, bankers, and others in violent attacks, including bombings. This deserves law enforcement resources, and these people need to be stopped before they kill someone. Society must send the message that if you try to engage in intimidation of this sort, you will get hard time in a real prison.

I'm waiting for the first of these idiots to fail to make the transition from fuses to timers successfully.

Hey, maybe now the FBI will get off it's collective ass and make some arrests, starting with the owner of the web-site.

It seems odd that these people destroy hundreds of thousands worht of property, have a website, operate in the CONUS, brag about their antics, and recruit through articles in the open press....

and are walking around free.

I did a Google search on the Anmial Liberation Brigade. Their home page now says they've disbanded, but check out their links at www. geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/7221. Quite an interesting list of sites they view as sympathetic.

There is only one solution to this problem. I hate to say it because it violates my respect for the law of the land and the right to trial by jury. The bottom line is that the only way to fix this problem is with a bullet between the eyes of these creeps. It's uncivilized I know, but there really is no other way. People like these would rather go down fighting in a hail of bullets anyway, so I say we should oblige them.
