I agree.

It's about time too. Anonymous sources have undermined news organizations to where they are mere puppets of politicos.

(Or, wholly owned subsidaries, when it comes to the Democrats)

Translation: We want to be free to tear down the Bush Administration, without being questioned about silly little things like proof and stuff. SPeculation rumour, and anonymous sources are much more efficient...

Isn't this a great turn around?

At first they were ready to lynch Rove and GW without a trial for supposedly leaking about Wilson's Plame.

Now, that a real investigation is starting, they are against it.

The lies and duplicity of the left wing mediot rats is beyond any description.

I like it.

The media would love to screw Bush (Big Time) and this is actually their chance if, -IF,- the White House is behind the leak.

They have to decide is short term gain("getting" Bush) worth the possible long term consequences (anonymous sources would clam up).

My guess is the leak is Plame herself. Novak probably just asked a couple of White House officials if they would deny she was an agent, and they didn't.

"Leak investigations themselves invariably fail," Abrams said. "Sources rarely come forward to acknowledge that they provided information and journalists never do."

Only true in the USA.

I guess Ashcroft isn't the tyrant the com symps make him out to be after all.

freedom of the press does not allow the press to invoke fighting words like shouting "bomb" in a building. It gives them no cover for sedition, libel, fraud, and the like. It gives them no protection as accessories to the fact and after the fact in outing a Cia operative in the press. Given they'd like to barbeque the administration, there is no reason not to name names. That they haven't credibly done so should tell us all something. At any rate, I'd put it to the press that they are accessories and as many of them as need be will be jailed for breach of national security and prosecuted to the furthest extent of the law - and they will sing or face anything else that can be piled on.

This is rich....let the investigation begin....the rats aren't used to people cooperating with an investigation...their MO is to deny, delay and obstruct.

Seems to me this is a National Security issue and that's going to make a difference in the "protect your sources" game.

This notion that "freedom of the press" confirms some special status on so called journalists, is a bunch of extra-Constituional huey. Freedom of the press means freed to print what you know or think, not to know ever freaking thing under the sun. If providing such information to anyone is a crime, it's a crime to provide it to a journalist. If someone has knowlege of a crime, they should come forth with that knowledge. If they choose not to so voluntarily, then they are subject to supoena, whether they be journalist or janitor. The whole notion of journalists as a protected class comes from the DemocRats favorite period, the Pentagon Papers and Watergate era.

"Leak investigations themselves invariably fail," Abrams said. "Sources rarely come forward to acknowledge that they provided information and journalists never do."

Put the journalists under oath. Make them testify before a grand jury or go to jail for contempt.

First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams said the law requires the Justice Department to try to find the information without going to the reporters who wrote about it.

"They certainly cannot call them first," Abrams said. "In fact, the law requires that they call them last, if at all."

But they can call the President and ask him questions under oath. They did that with Bush 41 over some kind of leak (I can't remember exactly what).

The liberal media in their frenzy to destroy Bush has created Frankenstein's monster which will turn on them and destroy them. This is going to be fun to watch and it serves them right. John Ashcroft maybe indicting and punishing some liberal dems. I will enjoy seeing them get hoisted on their own petards.

How many people knew this person was supposedly a
CIA operative? 2? 100? 470000?
Why does someone in the White House NEED to know this?

I am starting a new Plame/Wilson ping list effective immediately! Freepmail me to be added! Expect high volume! And please ping me to any new relevant thread, as there's no way I'll be able to find them all myself!

How funny is this. On the one hand, they are screeching like little girls at a Barbie party for the investigation into who did this "dastardly" deed, while on the other hand running away from any attempts at helping find out who did this "dastardly" deed!

They know exactly who did, and while claiming their journalistist protect their sources cry, I wonder, cynic that I am, if they aren't protecting the culprit with all of their might.
