[history]
As tobacco has become less socially acceptable and home buyers are more aware of indoor air quality, houses that reek of cigarette smoke are becoming a harder sell, experts report.
"It definitely is a major turnoff," said Michael Wilson, a real estate agent with Prudential Fox & Roach Realtors in Brandywine Hundred. "Buyers immediately think about what they'll have to do to eliminate the odor. It's a real drawback and a real negative."

Not a lie. Walls of homes that smokers live in do reek of tobacco long after they are gone. This is just not true. It depends on the way you clean and take care of your home. I am a non-smoker, but I have been in smokers homes that smell and look better than some non-smokers homes.

ROFLMAO!!!!
Way too funny!!!!!!
I think much of the attitude and arrogance appearing in this thread stems from the comments of the so-called "experts" in the article about smokers being at the lower end of the money scale and unable to afford to buy homes.
We all know that the "sheeple" will always believe anything printed in the newspaper that quotes an "expert."
Even if that "expert" is a lying sack of excrement. If the left-wing rag says he's an expert, well he must be.
I seriously doubt those "smoke" experts have spent any time in Delaware, let alone bought or sold a house there. I'm also familiar with the particular cleaning company mentioned in the article as well as the real estate agents.
Gee, I wonder who is more knowlegdeable about real estate in Delaware, someone that recently sold a house in Delaware and used to work in a real estate law office, or
someone that has never been in the state?????
According to many on this thread it appears to be the latter.

Exactly - and how about the people that don't train their pets? OH YES! I was going to post that. The stench from untrained pets on a CARPET! OH YES! People like that are so lazy. I mean it! They talk about cigarette SMOKE!
It's enough to make me GAG when I think of unwashed butts, old diaper urine, and pet mess on carpets. Oh yes! Thank you!!!
And what about a closed house when the people do not wear deodorant. Oh yes, tell me about it!

I am a cigar smoker and I live in a waterfront home on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The value of my home has increased by 100% since I bought four years ago. If someone doesn't want the water access and view from my place, they can go to hell.

and how about the people that don't train their pets? But I'm sure all the anti-smokers on this thread are squeeky clean, and all that. Never know what sits behind that MONITOR! heh!

Boy, did you ever miss all the fun on the DWI threads yesterday! There were a couple of entertaining battle royales. Even if I saw it I may have skipped it, gets me too MADD :-) The MADD weapon goes like this: "Oh if you're agin us, you're for death, mayhem and mangled children on the roads"
"Err well, what I'm saying is no I...I...I...":aye aye aye - the sound of the carrying vote to make glancing at liquor store at a stop sign a crime on the senate floor...

I don't have smoke eaters, never had them.
I use good old fashioned ventilation. You know where you open the windows that let in the fresh air that is full of all the pllutants being spewed in the air by the vehiclular traffic, and chemical companies, and power plants and manufacturers!!!!!! Ohh and we can't forget that I spent 11 years in as flight path of those beautiful polluters known as C-5s.
of course now that I live in the country i am not subject to much of that anymore - but goodness, the carcinogens from the burn barrel out back. The antis must be having kittens, because the trash i burn not only is just my household trash it allso is the empties from my ashtrays.
Cry me a river. I'm sick and tired of these whining little pansies who never were able to escape from mommy's apron strings and now want the government to take care of them.
They disgust me.

Thank you for that link - that sounds very interesting.
Some of the comments in the review, particularly regarding morality will probably hit quite a few nerves in the anti-smoker community.
Such as those that believe a non-smoking same sex couple are better candidates for parentage or adoption than a married heterosexual couple where one or both smoke.
Or the antis that believe abortion is a better option than a child being born to a smoking mother.
Again, my thanks - I think I will look into getting a copy of it.

This is propaganda that the antis will run around in a frenzy repeating until everyone believes it. And it is very evident that quite a few FReepers, who should really know better, have already fallen for it.
Good luck on your move. The anticipation is wonderful - the tedium of actually dong it gets old real quick!!!!

STINK AND F I L T H????????? Where do you get off!
I am a non-smoker. I am not overly offended by smoke, but I would not buy a used car owned by a smoker, nor a house owned by a smoker. No offense intended. Really. My parents both smoked. I dreaded the sound of the "flick of the bic" when they awoke in the morning, knowing I would have to breathe that stuff as long as I was in the house that day. Anyway, most smokers DO seem not to care all that much for the smoke, at least it seems that way from watching smokers' cars, with windows cracked, even in the rain and the winter cold. I would think you guys would want to keep as much of that precious (and expensive) smoke in the car as possible. But I confess that the smoking allure has never attracted me (except for my perverted habit of engrossing watching, from a distance, attractive female smokers as they smoke.... I do have ONE vice.....)

it's like they need a whipping board, and smokers are it! I've seen democrats and homosexuals get better treatment on threads here than the smokers have been treated on this thread today.

No there isn't - as this thread proves.M this silly nonsense really makes me mad - how can people be so stupid as to believe a bunch a left winged idiots out to control your every action. All responsible home owners know that every few years you need to paint and at the VERY LEAST have your carpet cleaned, if not replaced. To blame smoking on dirty homes is just ignorant and stupid.
