General Clark Wants To Focus U. S. Resources and On Unlocking The Secrets Of Time Travel

Wesley Clark: Rhodes scholar, four-star general, NATO commander, time-travel fanatic?

During a whirlwind campaign swing Saturday through New Hampshire, Clark, the newest Democratic presidential candidate, gave supporters one of the first glimpses into his views on technology.

"We need a vision of how we're going to move humanity ahead, and then we need to harness science to do it," Clark told a group of about 50 people in Newcastle attending a house party -- a tradition in New Hampshire presidential politics that enables well-connected voters to get an up-close look at candidates.

Then, the 58-year-old Arkansas native, who retired from the military three years ago, dropped something of a bombshell on the gathering.

"I still believe in e=mc², but I can't believe that in all of human history, we'll never ever be able to go beyond the speed of light to reach where we want to go," said Clark. "I happen to believe that mankind can do it."

"I've argued with physicists about it, I've argued with best friends about it. I just have to believe it. It's my only faith-based initiative." Clark's comment prompted laughter and applause from the gathering.

Gary Melnick, a senior astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, said Clark's faith in the possibility of time travel was "probably based more on his imagination than on physics."

If it's real physics you want, there is Physics World. It's the real deal, but written more for science teachers than professional scientists. Zero politics, except for complaints that physics education is severely underfunded these days. There can be humor, too. What do you get when you cross a bat and a pig? Bat pig sine theta. Ha ha ha. Physics joke. Can't stop laughing. Ha ha ha.

Anyway, maybe your local library can get it, or go up to your physics department: Somebody probably subscribes.

I thought Einstein said that traveling forward in time is possible, but not backward in time. If that is the case, isn't this a waste of time and money? Don't get me wrong I'd love to visit myself in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. I'd give myself stock tips!

Is it just me or was Clarke not talking about time travel at all and the reporter leaped to the conclusion? I got the impression he was speaking of travelling faster than the speed of light for purposes of space exploration which is not the same thing as time travel.

Wired News is owned by Terra Lycos - but it also hosts Conde Nast's Wired Magazine. The situation is similar to MSNBC.com and Newsweek.

The posting restrictions for those sites are broader than necessary, but FR's policy is to err on the side of caution. When a site contains both restricted and non-restricted content, many people have trouble sorting it out correctly.

Technically speaking, it would not be too difficult for the posting software to distinguish these cases.

No wonder Hillary is pushing the press to play "let's make a scandal" regarding the supposed leak.

Clark is a loon--but his statement was taken out of context. He said he was not a Christain but a had his faith in science as a religion - i.e. Humanisim. But the spin that Clark is into time travel as if he was a nutty professor (which he did not say-hell I speculate on time travel, too) means the Republicans are scared of Clark - and they should be. Clark could be our greatest danger in regards to Dem candidates.
