Jewishpress.com poll results: "Favorite Websites List" (FR "Honorable Mention!")

Favorite Websites List Posted 9/24/2003 By Jason Maoz, Senior Editor EditorThe votes have been received and tabulated, and the winner in the Monitor’s first-ever readers’ Favorite Websites poll is ... Jewish World Review, the daily webzine that, hard to believe, is the fruit of one man’s labor.

Binyamin L. Jolkovsky started Jewish World Review in 1997 on a shoestring budget and a lot of ambition; six years later he’s still got the shoestring budget, though you couldn’t tell from looking at his site, with its comprehensive roster of nationally known columnists and feature writers.

Honest Reporting came in a close second, with the Drudge Report, everybody’s obligatory stop while web surfing, coming in just a handful of votes behind in third place.

The top 20 vote-getters:

1) Jewish World Review (www.jewishworldreview.com)

2) HonestReporting (www.honestreporting.com)

3) Drudge Report (www.drudgereport.com)

4) IsraelInsider.com (www.israelinsider.com)

5) Front Page Magazine (www.frontpagemag.com)

6) Arutz Sheva (www.israelnationalnews.com)

7) MEMRI (www.memri.org)

8) Aish (www.aish.com)

9) National Review Online (www.nationalreview.com)

10) Best of the Web Today (www.opinionjournal.com)

11) Ha’aretz (www.haaretzdaily.com)

12) Palestinian Media Watch (www.pmw.org.il)

13) World Net Daily (www.worldnetdaily.com)

14) The Jerusalem Post (www.jpost.com)

15) Imra (www.imra.org.il)

16) Media Research Center (www.mediaresearchcenter.org)

17) Israpundit (www.israpundit.com)

18) New York Times (www.nytimes.com)

19) Andrew Sullivan (www.andrewsullivan.com)

20) Little Green Footballs (www.littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog)

Honorable Mention:

Free Republic (www.freerepublic.com)

Lucianne.com (www.lucianne.com)

Jewsweek (www.jewsweek.com)

Town Hall (www.townhall.com)

Power Line (www.powerline.com)

The Monitor finds it difficult to argue with the readers’ picks. There are, however, a bunch of websites that in the Monitor’s view merit constant attention but that didn’t crack the top 20 or the honorable mentions in terms of votes received.

They are:

Democracy For The Middle East (www.broadscapeventures.com/weblog/dfme)

Real Clear Politics (www.realclearpolitics.com)

Times Watch (www.timeswatch.org)

Atlantic Blog (www.atlanticblog.com)

Blissful Knowledge (www.blissfulknowledge. com)

The Weigh In (www.jsoda.blogfodder.net)

Right Wing News (www.rightwingnews.com)

Spinsanity (www.spinsanity.org)

Baseball Musings (www.baseballmusings.com)

The Monitor thanks all who participated in the poll.

Equality of the general rules of law and conduct, however, is the only kind of equality conducive to liberty and the only equality which we can secure without destroying liberty. Not only has liberty nothing to do with any other sort of equality, but it is even bound to produce inequality in many respects. This is the necessary result and part of the justification of individual liberty: if the result of individual liberty did not demonstrate that some manners of living are more successful than others, much of the case for it would vanish. F.A. Hayek

Most of the time one hears the words "social justice," the speaker means, to quote Hayek again, "distributive justice." In other words, arbitrary decision making by official authority on what should belong to whom. IMO.

I kind of think that "social justice" and socialism are pretty much the same thing.

I see it more like "social justice" means we hang a lot of politicians, and "socialism" means they hang us.

"...and all I can say is that I never thought that I, as a Christian, would end up in a foxhole with a Jew."

More and more it's becoming the same fight, in the world.

Make sure you guys check out these news websites. A few that I haven't seen. I am a little shocked FR isn't more up the list. I know the FReepers are throwing around a little more weight than that!

great post, I agree that the title "social Justice" is a misnomer.

Actually, it's essential that we realize (as a Catholic and conservative) that it IS the same fight!

Problem is, the "Catholic" complex is to "feel" that since tehdemocrats are "pushing the right "social-take-care-of-others" buttons" that they actually mean it.

If they (the international socialists) wouldn't lie (so they appear "caring liberals" against "hate-filled" republicans!) probably 40% of their base votes would disappear.

It is sickening that the Israel-bashing New York Slimes would make the list at all, but I am heartened that it's well below many sensible sites. May FR surpass it in the next poll!

The Jewish Press is one of the oldest Jewish-oriented publications in the US, if not the oldest. And it is Conservative. The editors endorsed Bush in 2000, and I expect they will so in 2004. Good on FR for getting on their list. Their site gets lots of traffic, just as FR does. And the hard copy of The Jewish Press is very widely read....
