HOWARD DEAN'S UGLY SLUR

There was a particularly ugly moment during Thursday's free-for-all between the 10 Democratic presidential candidates at Pace University.

It came when an obviously stung Howard Dean lashed out at rival Dick Gephardt for comparing him to former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

"We need to remember that the enemy here is George Bush, not each other," said Dean.

Say what?

George Bush is the enemy?

Did Dean misspeak?

Or did he say what he meant?

Casual slur?

Or Freudian slip?

Either way, it was rendered even more offensive by the fact that it took place at Pace University - once-upon-a-time virtually in the shadows of the Twin Towers.

Even more sad is the fact that not one of his opponents - especially pols like Joe Lieberman and Bob Graham, who allegedly know better - criticized Dean on his use of the word.

Which we have to assume means that they agreed with it.

So let's be clear here.

George W. Bush is the president of the United States.

Osama bin Laden is the "enemy."

So was Saddam Hussein, until Operation Iraqi Freedom ended his murderous regime - no thanks to Howard Dean.

Dean and the other Democratic candidates owe an apology to President Bush.

And to the American people.

Not that we expect any such thing, of course.

My unscientific guess is that it's been a gradual thing, starting with the Vietnam era, but the Clinton years greatly accelerated it. You're right, things are being said now by Dem politicians that no one could have imagined in the 1980s.

Good point. But IMO today's "new" and "old" Democrat Parties' leaders are not traditional Democrats.

The left makes no secret of their feeeeeeeeeelings. Remarks by Democrat stalwarts like Ellen Ratner and salon's Gary Kamiya prove it.. Both have expressed hopes for a U.S. disaster in Iraq. By any definition that means dead Americans. Fox News Channel's "Your World" Dec. 28, 2002 for Ratner and Mr. Kamiya's remarks at salon.com, April 11, 2003.

Some rank and file Democrats prove it, also. A Mill Valley, Calif. resident wrote the S.F. Chronicle to say that some things are worth the lives of other people's sons and daughters:

"The constant loss of U.S. soldiers in Iraq--after the war is "won"--is a tragedy. However, if this is what it takes to retire the Bush administration at the next election, the sacrifice is justified."

IMO it's fair to say that many of us despised Bill Clinton as President and wished him "interesting times." But NOT ONE of us wished ill upon America or Americans. Not so the Democrats.

To be fair, I agree that the left is the enemy. I believe that they and their "new" and "old" Democrat leaders ARE traitors. This war between left and right is the war inside of the major war to protect against radical Islam. Its outcome will determine whose America survives the war to protect against radical Islam and is just as important. IMO.

Good grief. I think you might be reacting just a tad. We are talking about a presidential election. Most conservatives consider the ten Democratic challengers to be the "enemy."

Of course, nobody on this forum has ever called Bill Clinton "the enemy."

The point is that no Republican leader, let alone any Republican presidential candidate has ever called a Democrat president an "enemy." This has absolutely got to be used agains the Dems.

And by the way, I think Dean should be strung up for saying it. After a fair trial, of course.

Well let's be honest here, how many of us here at Free Republic consider Dean & Co. to be the enemy, as well as Bill and Hillary? They are the enemy to a strong and prosperous America, so to a socialist like Dean, President Bush is an enemy in the same way. Yeah I understand the point being made, but how many people at F.R. "supported" Bill Clinton as President the same way they "support" President Bush or President Reagan?

Amen! Reading Ann's book, "Traitors", now ... it is unbelievably right on, and documented rock solid! I am tempted to go read Al Franken or what ever his name is' book, as I hear it is just a stupid rock trowing poorly documented book .. (if I can stay awake through it) just so I can have total credibility in my mind of the differences between the absolute truth on the right and the rediculous ascinine unfounded assertions that make up the left ....

$22 for used for Franken? forget it! Don't want to spend that much on such garbage (spent some time scanning it at the book store a week ago) ... I'll just trust my instincts and buy more info on Alger Hiss, the HUAC and McCarthy, to prove my hunches on who's telling the truth.

Are you sure? The bent One did not act, for EIGHT YEARS, as if he ultimately had the good of the USA at heart. In fact, the entire Gang of Ten is perhaps open to debate as to whether they are Americans, or democrats, or Socialists first.

They sure seem to be thrilled at the idea that a few more American soldiers die, every week, in some far-off toilet. I am really curious as to just who is the bigger Enemy in the eyes of the Democrats Party...
