Arnold Schwarzenegger da Terminator Turns Tail in Recall
HIGH TRUE WITH TOMAS GRTV VANITY | 27 SEPT 03 | TomasUSMC
Posted on 09/27/2003 2:33 AM PDT by TomasUSMC
Friday September 26 - the day the Great Golden Tiger turned into the little yellow pussycat.
Today embattled Gov. Grey Davis, losing ground in all the polls, weakened by recent court decisions challenged Mr. Schwarzenegger to a Mano a Mano, one on one debate. Much to the horror of his supporters in the Republican Party's Lemming Wing, the Terminator suffered a serious weakening of the muscles around his spine and was last seen by the LAPD, looking for a loophole through which to escape in his Hummer. This comming a week after stating that he would only debate in the superbowl of debates....

The Sacramento Bee
(SMW) - We learned the other day that the major candidates for governor are just like most of us. They can be rude, overbearing and insulting when they're under pressure. But if they want to govern California, it seems they'd be better off by turning it down a notch. Most voters want cooler heads in the governor's office. Wednesday night in Sacramento, they saw three of the top five candidates auditioning for WWF instead of strutting their gubernatorial stuff....

Word is the Terminator dropped a small bundle on a private jet so he and his beloved, Maria Shriver, could fly from the Cannes Film Festival to Venice - for a gondola ride.More fiscal thriftiness from the future Governor Frugal.

News briefs on the California recall (Sundheim crashes Davis party)
The Associated Press ^ | September 26, 2003
Posted on 09/27/2003 10:46 AM PDT by calcowgirl
California Republican Party Chairman Duf Sundheim crashed a Gov. Gray Davis campaign event Friday where he defended Arnold Schwarzenegger, criticized Davis' debate challenge to the actor -- and ended up in a confrontation with feminist activist attorney Gloria Allred.
After an event with women supporters wrapped up, Sundheim began giving spin to reporters, accusing Davis of ignoring the public's business to raise money and defending Schwarzenegger's record with women....

Voter registration climbing
Voter registration for the Oct. 7 election will exceed last year's numbers, and turnout on Election Day probably will as well, the Chronicle reports. A survey of counties finds that the ranks of independent voters continue to grow, while Republicans are holding their own and Democrats are facing declines in key counties.
UPDATE: Keep your eye on the Central Valley. This was a surprising Davis stronghold in 1998, and drifted away from him in 2002. Now the Chronicle numbers show that Fresno County, where Republicans had a narrow 43.9-43.0 registration edge a year ago, is today 46.2 percent Republican to 40.5 percent Democrat. That is a massive change in just one year.
UPDATE 2: More anecdotal evidence that a big turnout is brewing, from Contra Costa and Alameda counties. In the Contra Costa Times....

Mercury News
WEST HOLLYWOOD - Displaying a new level of bitterness, Gov. Gray Davis lashed out at Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday in ads attacking the Republican as a candidate who ``can't get his facts straight'' and ``has no experience.''
The ad began running statewide hours after Davis issued a direct challenge to Schwarzenegger to debate while the governor's supporters said the actor has displayed anti-woman values throughout his career.
With less than two weeks to go, Friday's events were the most personal yet in the tumultuous recall campaign, as Davis accused Schwarzenegger of distorting his record and Republicans lambasted a ``desperate'' governor for relying on ``puke politics.'' ....

Bruce Herschensohn does ad for Tom McClintock

I just heard a GREAT radio ad supporting Tom McClintock for Governor. It was Bruce Herschensohn - - California's MR. CONSERVATIVE -- speaking from the heart. An announcement said it was co-sponsored by California Republican Assemply, so I went to their web site - - and here's the official announcement of the Herschensohn ad:
CRA LAUNCHES RADIO CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT TOM MCCLINTOCK FOR GOVERNOR The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he cant win.
If everyone who has said that would vote for him hed win by a landslide, Herschensohn says. The spot concludes with an appeal from Herschensohn: If you think hes the most qualified candidate, support him. At this point, it doesnt depend on him, it depends on you. ....

They begin running on Tuesday of next week.
The ads feature not just Gray Davis, but more importantly, Cruz Bustamante, reminding viewers that "Cruz Bustamante is just another shade of Gray."
Let's hope that voters choose to dump Gray Davis and realize that Cruz Bustamante is not an acceptable alternative whatsoever.

Pro-life, pro-family, conservative Republicans are becoming a rare commodity in the Valley these days. State Sen. Chuck Poochigian endorsed Mike Villines for Assembly District 29. Mr. Villines has pro-choice ex-governor (and campaign consultant to Arnold Schwarzenegger) Pete Wilson stumping and raising money for him. Meanwhile, Bill Jones and Mike Der Manouel Jr. are backing pro-choice Mr. Schwarzenegger for governor and telling pro-life Republican Tom McClintock to go jump in a lake....

Sources: Internal Polls Show Schwarzenegger May Be Pulling Ahead

LOS ANGELES Internal Republican and Democratic polls show Gov. Gray Davis has lost momentum in his fight to beat the recall and suggest Arnold Schwarzenegger (search) might be pulling away from Democrat Lt. Gov Cruz Bustamante (search ) and Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock, sources told Fox News.
No public polling has been released this week and all the top campaigns are awaiting the next round of polls from the Field Group and the Los Angeles Times to set the tone for the final week of California's historic recall election.
Republicans and Democrats have conducted nightly "tracking" polls for weeks and those numbers have often closely tracked with the sporadic release of public polls.
According to sources in both parties, Davis trails on the recall question by as many as 14 points....

One of the untold stories of this campaign is the degree to which Democrats have helped Tom McClintock stay competitive in the race to replace. Everyone by now knows that the casino gaming tribes, which clearly favor Bustamante, are helping McClintock in what appears to be a strategy of pulling votes away from Schwarzenegger. But Democrats also have given McClintock a completely free pass on policy positions he has taken that are opposed to everything Democrats believe in....

Watching things from AZ with a daughter living in Norco I do have a little bit of remote viewing interest in this.
From what I've seen of the candidates battling each other without Arnold and then the debate with Arnold this is how I see it going down.
Davis gets recalled despite heavy-handed help from the Clintoons by a solid margin.
Arnold gets the greatest number of votes somewhere around 30 - 35%
Bust-Da-Money despite heavy-handed help from the Who's of McCauliffville comes in a at second most likely tied with McClintock somewhere around 25%
The Greenie (hmmm that kinda fits him) is a far distant third.
With Ariana Puffing-tongue trailing way-way back in the pack barely beating out Gary Coleman, Larry Flynt, and what's her name the stripper.
I give the whole mess 30=60 days and the Anti-American Corruptor Licentiousness UnseMenche will file suit with the 9th Circus to invalidate it on spurious trumped up grounds that should but won't be tossed out for being Barratry.

SOUTH GATE The leading Democrat among governor candidates has responded to criticism by backers of Governor Gray Davis. They say the Bustamante campaign hurts the effort to defeat the governor recall.
Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante said during a campaign stop today in the Los Angeles suburb of South Gate that he will continue to oppose California voter recall of Davis. That is the "yes" or "no" question on the October seventh ballot.
Bustamante said that in every speech he has made and in all of his commercials he has opposed recalling Davis.....

Concerned about "spoiler" candidates on the left and right, Gov. Gray Davis and Arnold Schwarzenegger have moved quickly in the last few days to portray the race as a head-to-head contest -- a strategy some analysts say could backfire.
The governor and the actor got some help Saturday from CNN's Larry King, who invited them onto his show to debate one-on-one. But while Davis's campaign quickly accepted, the Republican front-runner's campaign insisted he has no intention of debating the Democrat....
