DENVER - The NFL has fined the Denver Broncos (news) for wearing the wrong uniforms in a game against San Diego, and it fined wide receiver Rod Smith (news) for accidentally hitting an official, according to published reports.
The Broncos were fined $25,000 for wearing white uniforms Sept. 14 against San Diego, even though Denver had agreed beforehand to wear dark uniforms, The Denver Post reported Friday.
Smith was fined $20,000 for striking umpire Undrey Wash during Monday night's 31-10 win over Oakland, The Post and the Rocky Mountain News reported. Smith got tangled with Raiders defensive tackle Chris Cooper after a 6-yard reception and took a wild swing that struck Wash.
Both newspapers cited an unidentified league source in reporting the fines.

Ex cardiac card fan here....remember the Bidwell days all too well. And what's funny, is recently (last couple years) I had a training trip to Phoenix and the news headlines were similar to what Bidwell had been doing in St Louis, only this time with the Arizona Cardinals. Bidwell has never been interested in building a winner...just a tax writeoff. His current fiasco is trying to get the citizens of Phoenix taxed enough to build a new stadium. He is not missed in St Louis.

Well Adrian, I think the NFL should fine Denver for their ugly uniforms. That slash of orange on the jersey is sooooo tacky and those helmets! It all says "bargain basement" to me. When they first came out, I thought the new Broncos uniforms had a "Roller Derby" look. But after they won two Super Bowls in them, I kind of like them now.
I still pine for those old orange jerseys, though -- you had to be a true BroncoManiac to wear one of those outdoors.
P.S. to Green Bay fans: my theory is that Farve lost the magic when the Broncos beat the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII. Prior to the game, Farve was quoted saying he was thinking about throwing a touch down pass LEFT handed when the game became a laugher.
Hubris. Gets you every time.

They had to be fined. The Chargers were the home team. the home team, I think, has the choice of which colored uniforms to were. It was hot in San Diego, so, the home team chose white jersey and the visiting Broncos agreed to wear there dark jersey. Rules are rules.

You mean the Jake Plummer that ran over Oakland 31-10, who threw two touchdowns and had the best completion percentage for the week? Yeah, he's a real joke, ain't he?

True enough, but let's be honest... under any circumstance does San Diego have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Denver. Dark or light jerseys - seems fairly irrelevant in that matchup.

if he continues to play this way for the rest of the season he'll be playing in the All Star game in Hawaii. If that happens, somebody better give Steve McNair an apology engraved on 24k gold plates!

I'm a big Jake Plummer basher. But I've got to give him props, that game was the best I've ever seen him play. Don't get used to it though, really that was the best he's ever played, really transended his normally mediocre skills.

Dont worry, after living with Griese for years, Bronco fans will gladly take the "inconsistant" Jake Plummer at least he can throw the ball more than 25 yrds.

been here in Phoenix since Jake's first pro days...
also enjoyed his ASU college career..That said, here in Phoenix Jack has had 12 sacks a game 15 times in his Cardinal career.....that sound like much of a chance?????????????????????????????????????????????????
Jake is awesome GIVEN A LEFT SIDE LINE......
To: cars for sale
Number of sacks is a very fluid stat, some sacks are because the line sucked, some are because the receivers couldn't get open, the QB failing to properly detect and react to the pressure is a contributing factor in all sacks.
No doubt that the Cards blew chunks, my arguement is that the Cards sucking wasn't a reason for Jake's crappy stats, Jake's crappy start were a reason the Cards sucked. Notice how so far they aren't noticably worse without him.

Actually, I watched the entire game. My warning to Bronco fans is to get ready for the most inconsistent QB in the NFL.Actually I think you are confused. Quincy Carter doesn't need a whole week to be inconsistent, he has large inconsistencies from play to play.
To: Semi Civil Servant
Do you have a citation for that quote? I've never heard of it and it doesn't sound like something Favre would say.
