"This was not an issue about free speech," Tim Moore, director of the SMU student center, said in a story for Thursday's edition of The Dallas Morning News. "It was really an issue where we had a hostile environment being created."Sounds like the admissions office of that particular institution (among others) would be a pretty hostile place to be if you happen to be a white guy applying for admission.

The group sold three cookies during its protest, raising $1.50.Sounds like 3 Hispanic students at least had a sense of humor.

So in about 10 years when the enterprising Young Conservatives of Texas members are gainfully employed and starting their own businesses....the whiners who gained access to SMU via affirmative action will have dropped out of college because they couldn't carry the academic load.
They will then be whining to the goverment to increase the minimum wage at their burger joint jobs.

Good time to read my tagline. Sorry, but as you can see from my tagline-- tolerance is reserved only for the tolerant. Your views are intolerant ,thus we don't have to tolerate them. Or something like that.

The campus Republicans at UCLA did the same thing a few months back. They were shouted at and actually ended up cutting it short when angry fans of diversity and tolerance started throwing the stuff they were trying to sell (oreos and twinkies IIRC).
To: Ready4Freddy
We jumped over the same hoops to get there. Well there lies the problem. Whites get to jump through the hoops, while minorities must jump over them. It is truly unfair.

By whome. I think those that had the bake sale have a right to free speach and if that was stopped well....
To: Ready4Freddy; Grit
Hey guys, it didn't have to be 3 Latinos, it could have been a white boy and two brothers, or a brother, a babe and a latino. ;-)

I believe that I proved conclusively in post #25 that it was not 3 Hispanics buying the cookies....

The sign should have also said: "Alumni Legatees -- Free; Football Players, Basketball Players, and Baseball Players -- We'll pay you a dollar to eat our cookies.

"Members of the conservative group said they meant no offense and were only trying to protest the use of race or gender as a factor in college admissions."
Geez, I hate when good guys weasel like this. We should never pick our words based on whether some clymer will be offended or not. Black students at SMU who are already stressted and feeling inferior because they would not survive to graduation without being graded on a separate scale, are ALWAYS going to be offended by anything that tends to highlight the disparity, the double standard.
Once you apologize for offending, the clymer is able to control your words by claiming offense and throwing your apology back at you. If a good guy feels he must apologize, apologize that the clymer is so insecure that he feels offended.
The good guys also missed a major opportunity by not calling it an "Affirmative Action Bake Sale," designed to bring diversity to the customer base by not just catering to the wealthy folks who could afford a buck a cookie.
