A boisterous crowd numbering in the hundreds let out a thunderous cheer Tuesday evening when two buses pulled up in front of the state Capitol carrying riders on a cross-country journey to promote the rights of immigrant workers in America.

"These workers toil in some of the country's toughest, lowest-paying and most dangerous jobs," said Michael McGrath, secretary of the Arizona AFL-CIO. "They suffer higher rates of on-the-job injuries, illness and fatalities than other workers in America. But when they stand up for their rights on the jobs, employers often threaten deportation."

All the more reason why they should enter the United States legally under the guest worker and immigration programs.

If they don't respect our laws, why should we respect their opinions?

Spiff posted this one earlier this afternoon...

Notice how eerily similar all the stories are? I'll bet you if you do a google news search on the phrase freedom riders you'll see that all of the articles (probably scores of them) are all worded/phrased exactly the same. Not necessarily in the same order, but with the exact same key phrases...e.g., 'like the Freedom Rides of the 60s'.

"People who break the law should not get a red carpet to continue breaking it, and that's what this is," said Karen Lapsley, 41, of Waddell.

We need more Karen Lapsley's in this country.

I wonder what presidente Jorge is saying about this.

Absolutely nothing, of course. It doesn't bother him that illegal aliens are trying to change American laws. He just wants us to shut up and pay the bills.

From a post today:

Money sent from Mexican workers in the United States to their families back home has reached a record $12 billion in 2003, Mexican President Vicente Fox said Wednesday.

Considering we're now the 5th largest city in America, it seems like a fairly small crowd. My guess is many of them came from Rev. Stewart's church which is, I belive, not all that far from where the rally was held.

Boy, you better not say that on any Bush approval poll threads. The bushbot flying monkeys will descend on you like you're a Clinton voter.

Yep, that's "The Deal" Bush has going for the American People.

Anyone catch Condi Rice last night on the O'Reilly Factor? Bill questioned Rice about our Wide Open Borders and from the exchange below, Rice makes it quite clear that NOTHING is going to be done by this administration to fight Illegal Immigration…much less defend our borders from this Epic Invasion:

O'REILLY: And this is national security. Polls say that 70 percent of Americans want the borders tightened up. The Bush administration hasn't done it.

Now you know (UNINTELLIGIBLE) put some more border patrol on there, but it's still a fairly open border for illegals and narcotics. Is there an explanation of why you guys wouldn't seal the border down?

RICE: Well, first of all, it's because we're an open country. And because we don't want to lose sight of who we are in what we do to protect ourselves. But I think if you talk to Tom Ridge, since the creation of the Homeland Security Department, and you talk to Tom Ridge about his relationships with his counterparts in Mexico and Canada, you would see tremendous progress on our perimeter.

O'REILLY: In what way? (UNINTELLIGIBLE) illegals in this country running around. We don't know who they are.

RICE: The focus on border control, the focus on in enhancing the borders, on technology borders -- you know President Bush was, of course, the governor of Texas. And he...

O'REILLY: And should know that he hasn't dealt with it successfully, with all due respect.

RICE: Bill, the fact of the matter is, as the president is fond of saying, family values don't stop at the Rio Grande. We've got to have a long-term plan also to make Mexico a more attractive place for Mexicans to work there. [LOL…me]

O'REILLY: But if I'm an al Qaeda, I know I can get into Canada with phony I.D. I know I can sneak across the border, and I know I can get...

RICE: But it's a lot better than that. I mean, that's really not a reflection of the way that this is progressing. We have made tremendous progress with both Canada and Mexico on border control, on smart borders.

Tom Ridge and his colleagues signed accords about a year and a half ago. They're using technology. We had excellent cooperation on the border between our...

O'REILLY: (UNINTELLIGIBLE) on the border. I agree with you on North Korea. I'm not sold on Iran. I think that they're going to do bad things. I'm certainly not sold on the border.
