I don't have voice-mail. Do i have to have voice-mail to avail myself of this service ? If so, then it's not a solution.

Yeah but the phone is your private property. You should have the right to say who can and can't use it. The government can't intrude on this 4th amendment right, why should slimy telemarketers be allowed? We shouldn't have to sue for our privacy. I say we win one for the Constitution here.

The phone company owns the phone services that they offer you. While they avail their services to you, the telemarketeers are paying for the same service from the phone company. Telephone service can not be a one-way street.

I wonder if any FReepers out there make a living either directly or indirectly from telemarketers? Quite a few sales jobs depend on this albeit intrusive form of marketing. If it didn't work, no companies would be using it as a form of marketing.

Let's take a poll...what would be the most effective way to have telemarketers stop calling?

1. Tell them to take your name and number off of their list.

2. Regale them with stories of last Christmas when the family all came to stay at your house and Aunt Betsy's Depends sprung a leak...

3. Tell them you have another call and then set the phone down and walk away.

4. Blowhorn

5. Have your four-year old "practice" talking to Grandpa on the phone.

6. Tell them you are taking off all of your clothes, give them a bit of phone hanky-panky, and then tell them you are charging $9.99 for the first minute and $15.00 for every minute after that.

7. Revert to smoke signals.

8. Yet again, thank God that you were born deaf.

9. Have ethnic mother barrage them with a bunch of questions about personal issues and then give them a guilt trip.

You are absolutely right, but we also have a right to our privacy. If we can place signs of 'no solicitation" outside of our homes and our businesses, why can't we do it with our telephones?

Hey, just let the telemarketer give me his home phone number since the service is not a one way street. I will be happy to call and pester the crap out of him during his family time.

Yeah, that's right you can...but at the same time it's really quite annoying when your awakened from sleep only to find out that it is a call you dont want to answer. Especially when you have elderly people who live with you and are constantly being disturbed by solicitors who are more than willing to take advantage of them when you are not around to intercept the calls.

I should have the right to not have to make the decision as to whether or not I want to answer the call or not. If Telepests want to start paying my phone bill, then by all means..let them call away. Until then, DO NOT CALL.
