God Bless Our Military

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Mama_Bear; Dansangel; Dutchess; Aquamarine; or FreetheHostages and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nation’s leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.
~~~~~~~~~~   ~~~~~~~~~~

We ask Lord, that You guide the leaders of our great country in their hour of decision. The burden that has been placed on their shoulders is overwhelming. We ask that with Your infinite wisdom You guide them gently to the right decisions.
Please give us the strength, Lord, to get through each difficult and devastating day that faces each of us and our country. Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I could have been a war dog if I'd wanted to be. I just didn't want to be.

I wanted to be governor of California.

But I love war dogs! They are among my new friends.

Worked on a short leash

I think a lot of the married guys here can probably relate to that.

This is great. I never knew about these animals. Chips sounds like he was a terrific dog.

This reminds me of some of the stories I saw on TV after 9/11 that talked about the rescue dogs.

I'm more of a cat person but these dogs could make me change my mind! :)

Good morning, Dutchess. What a wonderful story! I always love reading about our four-legged heros, and you've again presented a story today that's both informative and heartwarming. These dogs are amazing, and their training, both for war action and then returning to civilian life, is absolutely mind-boggling. Thank you!

Wonderful thread today, dutchess.
My apology for arriving so late.

It's hard for me to realize many here have no personal knowledge of the tremendous job done by dogs in WWII.
As a child then, it was for me a most impressive thing, and we heard many such stories of the heroics of them and their handlers.

Even children then could understand how unreliable field radio transmissions were in a war situation, as unsophisticaterd as communications equipment was then.

If they operated at all, the range was not far, and apt to be filled with static - and could be overheard by the enemy and their positions revealed.

Trained dogs also were not readily recognized as an 'Enemy' (no uniform..:)) and apt to not register as an unusual sight, scurrying around.
