This is scary stuff. It at least appears on the surface like we have a treasonous bunch of Islamic spies at GITMO, and one wonders what stuff they were shipping out or bringing in!

I guess it's not even worth asking why we have a Ahmed al-Halabi guarding the prisioners. Oh that's right to point this out is racist. My bad!

Maybe a reason is because people named Joe Smith don't usually speak Arabic, although there are a few exceptions.

On the point of profiling. We need to end war due to the fact that we have no choice but to profile the enemy. Oh as soon as Dean hears that we are only attacking arab muslims in Iraq he is sure to call Bush a racist and accuse this war as instituted by people using profiling techniques.

Ahmad Al-halabi appears at a site as in the "60th Supply Squadron" at Travis AFB. Maybe the same guy.
Are you profiling?
I'll give it a try. Not Arabs, but converts. Ya know what they say about converts...
They tried to collaborate with the detainees. The detainees thought they were spies, and made this known to other US staff at the base. The detainees wouldn't expect such jihadi-besotten doofus Americans to actually be on their side.
Another possibility is that Yee and gang are Saudi operatives.

I guess it's time more Americans learn Arabic fluently.
As a starting point, I can suggest the rosettastone.com language learning CD's they are the best.

I guess it's time more Americans learn Arabic fluently. That would be a good idea.

Senior Airman Ahmad I. al-Halabi Those darn Norwegians! I just knew they couldn't be trusted.

Investigate all those who served in Desert Storm and converted, for starters.
Looks there was a concerted Saudi campaign to win converts.

Fox News has learned al-Halabi and the Navy member both were detained roughly two weeks before Islamic military chaplain James Yee (search) was arrested. One can only hope that "roughly" referred to the manner in which they were detained rather than an approximate time :)

Don't tell me -- he's a Methodist, right?
No?
How about a Mennonite?
No?
A Presbyterian?
NO?
Uh, an Episcopalian? A Free-Will Baptist? A Latin-Mass Catholic?
Still no?
A snakehandler? A footwasher?
Is he an Hasid?
STILL no?
Gee, I wonder what faith this guy DOES belong to?
Waiting expectantly,

"Senior Airman Ahmad Al Halabi, who is in jail at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, was charged with four counts of espionage and more than 20 other criminal violations including aiding the enemy after recently serving as an interpreter at the base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Air Force Maj. Michael Shavers, a Pentagon spokesman, said Al Halabi was also charged with aiding the enemy, failing to obey orders, bank fraud and making false statements to interrogators.
"He served as an interpreter at Guantanamo for several months," the spokesman said. [Probably NOT a convert like Yee, then.]
Shavers said that Al Halabi had been arrested in California after returning there from Guantanamo but could not say when the arrest was made. The suspect is based at Travis Air Force Base in California but is being held at Vandenberg.

INTREP - Religion of Peace ALERT!
To: Brian Mosely
If looking for Islamic terrorist cells within the civilian population of the United States isn't enough, now our military has to deal with a fifth column within its ranks. Just what we needed.
With announcements of these arrests in Gitmo, it's beginning to look a little harder for American Muslims to prove they are loyal to their country. Despite President Bush's overtures to this "religion of peace", is hatred towards the United States becoming some kind of Muslim dogma of faith?
