Tom McClintock - The conscience of a conservative?

:-) I know you agree. Just thought it worthwile to zero in on and debunk the claim that McClintock suppporters make about how he is standing on principle.

My personal political philosophy does not fit 100% with either movement conservatives or moderates, although I certainly lean more to the former side. I guess I consider myself a Constitutional conservative, i.e, one who tries to conserve the original Constitutional. I was initially against the recall because (1) it came so soon after the election, (2) I didn't trust Issa's motives, and (3) the Founders were opposed to exercises in direct democracy such as this. Once it became certified, however, I became open to any Republican candidate who could win my confidence, and was most definitely open to McClintock initially since his positions most closely fit with my own. However, as the campaign has worn on, I have increasingly come to dislike and distrust the man, himself. So far, not a single one of McClintock's strident supporters on this forum has attempted to win me over to his side by addressing the concerns I have about the man, himself, not his political positions.

I'm not wasting my time with you because you don't know that neither Kerry or Kennedy or Bustamante would ever take a pass on raising taxes. Cruz has said he'll raise them by $9 billion. Schwarzenegger has said he won't as part fo the fiscal fix.

Kerry is less liberal than Kennedy by about the same amount Arnold is less liberal than Bustamante.

Clinton was less liberal than both of them...but he might have been more conservative than Arnold.

I appreciate you laying out your logic on this. It helps to understand where you're coming from. One of the problems I have with his team is that they do not acknowledge any truth. I don't care what it is, they do not say, "Yes, I agree there, but..." It's always Arnold is this, Arnold is that... When you mention that McClintock is a 15% it's as if you were speaking Russian. If you say you'll vote for Tom if he gets his numbers up it isn't good enough. If you say you'll have to vote for Arnold if he doesn't, they call you a RINO sellout.

Look, I'm not always right and I'm willing to debate and discuss issues with honest people. Even some people who are very nice and logical people, are not able to go 100% of the way towards honesty. They still hold out something.

If Tom is at 8% on election day, they think it would be smarter to put Bustamante in. I remember Jimmy Cater's administration. We're still dealing with his treachery 25 years later. I don't want a racist separatist anywhere nere the state house. Cruz Bustamante is a posion pill I won't take for anyone.

Arnold is pro 13, 187, business, pro lowering taxes and so forth.
He is no Cruz!

Tom McCLintock is for himself mostly. Ego driven and willing to partner up with Cruz against Arnold to get Cruz elected. McClintock is a Democrat sympathizer operating a sabotage of this election for what he thinks would be his own personal gain. Tom is a big loser and more Democrat that Arnold could ever be by his behavior in this race.

Wow! But it's OK to work with a party that's filled with hard-Left Marxists who — if they had no opposition — would confiscate everything you own, do away with private property, turn our Constitution into little more than toilet paper, give away our national sovereignty and subjugate us to a globalist government seated at the UN, and otherwise force us all into a Marxist utopia which would be a hell on earth? They would do away with traditional marriage and provide free abortions on demand. Sometimes I'm shocked at how truly blind some movement conservatives are to their real enemy. The Republican Party sure isn't perfect by any means, but it is the only thing standing between us and that Marxist vision.

He was in the race before Arnold and he's a real conservative. With Arnold, all the Republicans will get is blame for the condition of the state when his term is up. He won't accomplish anything in office. And he has nothing substantive to talk about, so he can't even use the bully pulpit for anything constructive.

How soon after these other consevatives entered the race did McClintock enter the race? If he was a latecomer, then he'll die by the sword and deserve it. Otherwise, we have a contest between a Conservative and a CINO. Where's the difficulty?

Again, what will be gained by electing Arnold?
