ATF Night Hosted by California Assembly Nominee John Brantuk Telephone: (562) 698-2870 email: John.W.Brantuk@BrantukForAssembly.org www.BrantukForAssembly.org

What is "ATF Night"? No, we're not the federal gun control agency. We are a social gathering of Second Amendment and liberty activists and leaders who meet monthly to discuss firearms-related issues over (optional) adult beverages and dinner, and afterwards, those so inclined may choose to step outside to continue discussions while enjoying a fine cigar - hence the name.

Originally hosted by The Lawyers' Second Amendment Society, the meetings have continued thanks to the leadership assumed by John Brantuk, Republican Nominee for the California State Assembly ( see www.BrantukForAssembly.org )

You don't have to be an activist to join us - newcomers and the curious are always welcome. And admission is always free.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| "1ST DEBATE" - from the San Francisco Chronicle 09/04/2003 On many of the issues Wednesday night, McClintock stood alone. He opposed abortion, vowed never to raise taxes and called for fewer restrictions on gun ownership, since "people have a fundamental right to defend themselves from violent predators."

His strong conservative stances likely won him some votes, possibly at the expense of more moderate Republicans such as Schwarzenegger and Ueberroth.

Republican analyst Tony Quinn said McClintock stood out from the pack of other hopefuls.

"Arnold's problem is they've got to get rid of McClintock -- and this hurt him," he said. "This gave McClintock the attention he won't get otherwise."

Pollster Mervyn Field agreed. "Arnold was hurt tonight," he said. "The question was: If he'd have been here, would he have been hurt more?"

"McClintock was forceful, and remarkable in his contrasts on positions" from the others.

And I honestly can't fathom not seeing a night and day difference between Arnold and Cruz. And in so many areas of importance!

Even if you just take the one single issue of the War on Terror... Arnold supports the Bush's efforts with the War on Terror, backs up Bush completely on Iraq, is pro-military and pro-national defense. He has also spoken about believing very firmly in the rule of law. He'll be much more inclined to to care about security measures to protect Californians against potential threats.

Just in that ONE AREA, we'd have a California Governor that backed up Bush instead of constantly criticizing Bush and his administration whenever a journalist was in his face.

Another small but important aspect that I have rarely seen mentioned is that the governor gets to appoints judges... one of conservatives most difficult problems are the armies of activist hard-left judges throughout our judicial system. Bustamante will appoint even more hard-left judges, Arnold will appoint conservatives or moderates at the very worst.

Another aspect, and this one is a biggie, is HILLARY desperately wants to keep the CA Governor under DNC control. We should be doing everything POSSIBLE to damage her potential at regaining the White House. If we support Arnold it is a LOCK for Republicans and Hillary will be furious... and will then have a bit of a harder time winning her goal at becoming the MOST POWERFUL LEADER in the WORLD...:::shudder:::

There are SO, SO many areas where a Republican makes an enormous difference... yet it seems folks are willing to throw it ALL out the window because of his few liberal social stances, and Bustamante is further left than Arnold in all those areas anyways :-(

If Arnold supported the war against terrorism he would not support illegal aliens like he currently does.

... that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a human being ...

A great human being! A natural leader, gratefully wanting to return to California some of the forturne it has provided him. Go Schwarzenegger, terminate 'em!

Oh, pish! Totally silly! He is very anti-illegals and has made that extremely clear. The only "support" he has shown to illegals is to allow the ones ALREADY ESTABLISHED AND WORKING here to apply for the temporary work permits and criminal checks that will allow them to get documented and stop living under the radar. He hasn't shown the slightest bit of leniency to illegals aside from the one small consideration.

Arnold versus Bustamante... forget any discussion of illegals with Cruz, he just wants to skip the issue completely and just give California to Mexico directly ;-)

You're very funny :-)

No, I don't want to send Arnold to Sacramento... I'd rather send McClintock despite some obvious imperfections he has, also.

You need to pull the voters to the right to elect an anti-gay, pro-life, pro-gun conservative in a California state-wide election. The election system is designed to prevent someone from winning easily when their ideology only matches about 15% of the population. It's a tremendous benefit for US that Green party members can't force their ideology through being badly outnumbered.... but it works against us in getting a true conservative elected. We can't pull a coup, so have to pull the VOTERS rightward.

Despite all your temper-tantrums, that's the bottom line.

---

A quote out of context, what a nice socialist tactic :-)

He said that while explaining that our past politians have given all those fancy facts and figures for years, and gone directly to Sacramento and just continued to drive the state into a financial cesspool.

At the VERY SAME PRESS CONFERENCE...Arnold promised that he would be providing more details BEFORE IT CAME TIME TO VOTE.

Did you watch it? It's been on C-Span for weeks in case you missed it. Here is a transcript and the C-span link if you care about what he really said... though I doubt it.

I must agree with this.

Among other things, venom is rarely persuasive. Usually it puts people on the defensive and makes them even more determined to stick to their present viewpoint.

I have seen so much unpleasantness on both sides that sometimes it's hard to even visit this place anymore. But the easy-reading presentation of the news from millions of sources keeps me coming back, because there is truly no easier way to stay informed.

Well, he said this last week according to the SJMN, not several weeks ago. As far as I can tell, you are pointing me here:

"We don't need to know the figures and that is where the auditing will take care of the rest."

You can think warm and fuzzy if you like. But I think it is vague, at a time when we don't need vagueness and absentee balloting is already in progress.

Arnold also said at that CNN interview:

"I will be tough enough..."

So where is Mr. Tough Enough when it comes to debating? (Not to mention show up at a gun rights organization meeting...)

If the guy isn't going to debate until the end, he better have a winning hand.

You Arnold supporters... what are you going to do when Arnold loses the last debate? Still insist he's the best person for the job?

;-)

A matter of opinion... I'm to the right of Arnold myself, but do support criminal background checks.

Well stated and presented.

I think the judge appointment aspect may be the best argument. But, the influence of Mrs. Schwarzenegger, Uncle Edward and associates mitigates this as a large positive compared to Bustamante.

Also the "social stances" are unfortunately the sort of things that a Governor actually has an impact on.

I don't know why it is preferable for Schwarzenegger to enact legislation forcing emploers and tax payer dollars to go toward giving benefits for "domestic partners" over Bustamante or Davis doing the same thing.

In fact, if Schwarzenegger as a Republican did this it would set a precedent and make it very difficult for any Republican official to not implement the same policy.

I heard a news blurb on Wesley Clark and it was interesting how his stance was the exact same as Schwarzeneggers: pro-abortion, against "Gay" marriage but for "domestic partnerships."

He said: "The public doesn't care about facts and figures. They've heard figures for the past five years. What the people want to know is if you're tough enough to clean house. I teach my children not to spend more money than they have. That's what I will teach Sacramento."

The actor took care to add that on taxes "we can never say never".

"In reality, I'm for gun control. I'm a peace-loving guy. I hate violence amongst the young kids."

Schwarzenegger also said he supports the Brady Bill and closing the gun-show loophole. He also favors trigger locks and the assault-rifle ban.

From the last debate:

"When candidates were asked to name their favorite books McClintock said his was "Free to Choose" by economist Milton Friedman, prompting Huffington to remark that Schwarzenegger had also expressed great admiration for Friedman. "

====

Interestingly, it's also Schwarzenegger's favorite book in fact, he introdueced the PBS TV series featuring Milton Friedman.

Here is what Arnold said:

""Milton and Rose Friedman's Free to Choose TV series has changed my life."

"I came from Austria, a socialistic country where government controlled the economy. A place where you can hear 18-year-old kids talking about their pensions. I wanted more. I wanted to be the best. I had to come to America. I had no money in my pocket, but here I had the freedom to get it. I have been able to parlay my muscles into a big movie career.

"Okay, so there I was, waiting for Maria to get ready for a game of mixed doubles tennis. I started flipping the television dial. I caught a glimpse of Nobel Prize winning economist Milton Friedman whom I recognized from my studies in economics. I didn't know I was watching Free to Choose. It knocked me out. Dr. Friedman validated everything I ever thought about the way the economy works.

"I became a big pain in the neck about Free to Choose. All my friends and acquaintances got tapes as well as books for Christmas after Christmas. If I had come up with Free to Choose, maybe I wouldn't have got into body building."
--Arnold Schwarzenegger

NOW -- can someone please answer me, why it is, that when two people have the same vision about the economy, one is considered a conservative, and one a "liberal"?

A matter of opinion...

Yep. Arnold's opinion versus the the RKBA. Gun control, the Brady Bill, trigger locks, banning "assault" weapons, eliminating the "gunshow loophole."
