Arnold Schwarzenegger Statement [on Recall election delay]
KCRA-TV ^
| September 15, 2003
Posted on 09/15/2003 1:19:28 PM PDT by yonif
"One million, six hundred thousand Californians of all political persuasions have signed petitions to recall Gov. Gray Davis. The Secretary of State has certified that this election should go forth on Oct. 7. The California Supreme Court has also ruled that the election should go forward on Oct. 7. I fully expect that the federal courts will come to the same conclusion.
"Today, I call upon the Secretary of State to immediately appeal this decision on behalf of the citizens who have exercised their constitutional right to recall Gray Davis, and who expect an election on Oct. 7.
"Historically, the courts have upheld the rights of voters, and I expect that the court will do so again in this case.
"I will continue to vigorously campaign for governor. The people have spoken, and their word should -- and will -- prevail."

McClintock's Statement:
"This is simply a distraction and will have no bearing on this election.
"I have every confidence that in a short time the US Supreme Court will allow this election to go forward.
"I want to remind people that the 9th Circuit is the most reversed court - the same court that banned the word under God in the Pledge of Allegiance.
"It has become a national laughing stock. This election is called for by the Constitution and demanded by the people of California."

Great words. Everyone (except the looney left) should agree with them. Even my left of center sister (who is probably shocked and amazed right now) would probably agree with them as well.

Rush thinks that there's no better than 50 :50 odds that the recall will happen in October.
Judge Nepolitano on Fox think that the election will probably still happen in Oct.
Hannity says he thinks the October election will happen.

When the subject is Emergency Relief from the US Supreme Court, I am a better source than the talking heads now on TV. NONE of the people currently being cited as "experts" on Fow News, and other channels as well -- presumably, have EVER requested, much less gotten, Emergency Relief from that Court.
I HAVE requested such relief there, several times. And I've gotten it, or helped others to get it, three times -- all in presidential elections (1976, 1980, and 2000). I've also had it denied on occasion.
And my considered opinion in THIS case is that SCOTUS will throw out this Ninth Circuit Order on an Emergency Basis. The Order to do so will be signed by Justice O'Connor.

One instance where the SCOTUS will act in a hurry is a high-profile election dispute, we've sure seen that before.

I agree with Arnold!
Let the recall election happen and on time.
Having said that, go Tom go!
To: yonif
I was kind of hoping he'd say: " I think I'll go make another "B" movie-or something else I'm reasonably qualified to do. "

At least we found something Arnold supporters and Tom supporters can agree on :-)
I'm trying to be nice to the former today mainly because there's bigger fish to fry.

This is a win-win for the the dems. If the Supreme Court overturns it, they'll scream - Bush's court did it and threw the election like Florida. They don't - Gray gets a 6 months delay in which we the dems hope we all lost our passion about this recall. I hope it backfires.

RonDog, thanks for reposting Cong. BillyBob's post.
I hope he turns out to be right. (It obviously makes sense, I am just concerned about judges doing the sensible thing)

Since the punch card ballot is used in thousands of precincts nationwide, and can't be eliminated before the 2004 election much less the primaries, it will be necessary to cancel the 2004 Presidential election. Tough luck, nine dwarves.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger addresses the crowd during his appearance at the California Firefighters' Association Convention, in Costa Mesa, September 14, 2003. Schwarzenegger discussed comments he made about sex years ago, prompting wife, Maria Shriver, to put her hand across his mouth to stop him. 'My mother is watching the show. My mother is watching the show. My God,' she said, laughing but appearing a bit flustered by the body builder actor-turned-politician's remarks during an appearance by the two on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show (news - Y! TV).'
