SACRAMENTO (AP) _ A bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for financial aid at California community colleges was approved by the state Assembly Thursday.
The bill, by Sen. Martha Escutia, D-Norwalk, would direct the board of governors to establish a process so students without legal immigration status can apply to have tuition waived.
It would require that the student attended high school in California for at least three years, obtained a diploma or an equivalent degree and, if the student isn't in the state legally, has applied to become a legal resident.
Opponents said the bill followed in the footsteps of the recently approved bill to allow illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses.
``Now we want to give financial aid in community colleges to illegal aliens?'' said Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy, R-Monrovia. ``Members, what is the matter with you?''
But supporters said the bill would help those students become educated members of the state's work force, helping the economy.
``We can continue to bury our heads in the sand and ignore it, but this helps kids who are in this state, who have graduated from high school, who we hope will go on to college, or learn a trade,'' said Assemblyman Joe Nation, D-San Rafael. ``It's the right thing to do politically, it's the right thing to do socially, and it's the right thing to do economically as well.''
The bill was approved on a 43-27 vote, returning to the Senate for approval of Assembly amendments.

Good Lord. What am I doing in this state? This HAS to be the stupidest state in the union. I've lived here for over 30 years, and I'm about ready to bail!I have lived here for over 40 years, and I AM bailing. I just can't take it anymore. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and watched as it became a third-world slum in a big part of it. I got tired of being taxed to death on everything, listening to Spanish chatter, and all of the giveaways to the illegals. I just don't want to live like this anymore. On top of that, the place is just way to crowded. Frankly, I can't think of anything good about this place.

>>WHAT is the matter with these people? <<
It's for the children...
Thanks to the exodus of actual citizens of that state, it is only a matter of time until it becomes a part of the US in name only.

Arnold was strong about this on O'Reilly a few days ago. Said he would repeal the driver license law and close borders.
To: MizSterious
Just courting the illegal alien vote. Last week they gave them driver's licenses. The Motor Voter Law will allow them to register to vote at the same time they apply for a driver's license.

Possible. Good point. The crazy 9th usually gets reversed anyway.

Yep. When you have completley destroyed your own country, you have no option but to expand. The Mexican illegal functions much the same as any other cancer cell.

Maybe CA should have let the official language be Spanish, think they would have stopped there?!

Possible. Good point. The crazy 9th usually gets reversed anyway. In at least one case (when Robert Alton Harris was executed), SCOTUS actually FORBADE the 9th from issuing any more stays of execution without SCOTUS permission.

If it goes thru then you and anyone who did pay tuition should get a class action lawsuit, maybe that would wake them up!

Yep, the bill started out so innocently in the Senate. It was amended in the Assembly to become the education funding thing.

No big surprise here - those traitorous moron democrats have already given IN-STATE TUITION to illegals! And driver's licenses! Hey, why not give them homes to live in too! In fact, why not just sign the state over to them?
I foresee that I will be leaving California just as soon as my situation permits! It will be a 3rd world state within 5 -10 years anyway!

And move to where? Florida? LOL! Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska or New Hampshire where some semblence of Americanism still prevails. Liberals can take their multiculturalism and shove it where the sun doesn't shine!!

The fight is lost. Cowardly compromised conservatives are now embracing a LIBERAL republican for Governor!!! So much for moral principle!!
The REAL conservatives in California are like the band on the Titanic who played until their instruments were under water.

Sell rental in LA before it's too late. You might as well. The day might come when an illegal wants to rent from you, and if you turn him/her down you will get slapped with a lawsuit. If you rent to him and he doesn't pay, you will have to sue for an uncollectable debt, and after they get advice from all the ACLU types, it will take you a year to get them out.

I, too, live in the Valley. When I first moved here in the '70s, I thought it was Paradise. Paradise has turned into Hell. Traffic gridlock, crime, skyrocketing rents, blight, etc., etc. I am a despised foreigner in my own country. And every week, it seems, there's horrible news...driver's licenses for illegals, free tuition for illegals, the LA police chief telling Californians that if we don't like illegal immigration, we should leave the state, (the illegals get to stay, WE are told to leave!) I never thought I would live to see this day in the United States of America.

I'm trying to identify the CA legislators in this photo, but maybe they're 9th Circuit Court judges instead... insanity and inanity reigns.
