A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....09-12-03....Sugar 'n Spice
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Two weeks ago I posted "The Last Days of Summer", featuring the Finest Guys, which of course prompted the Finest Girls to ask, "When are you going to feature us?"

Well, today's the day, Girls. And oh, so Pretty in Pink everyone is!

      ~ Billie

Gentlemen, start your engines! Not just another pretty face, these are all the girls you've loved before.....the little redhaired girl with green eyes and a dimple in her chin; the perky blonde whose ponytail bounced when she walked; that little brunette with the turned-up nose and laughing eyes....they're all here and more. Which ones made your little-boy hearts do flipflops?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is there a little girl in the whole world who doesn't have a fascination for kittens, pretty birds, and......teddy bears!
And maybe it's a Texas thang, but show me a little girl who's never dreamed of being a cowgirl at least once in her life. Something about those cowboy boots and that hat! :)
The seasons, they are a'changing. Leaves are turning bright orange, gold, red......but whatever the season, the Finest FRiends are constant.
This group of Ohio/West Virginia FReepers are about to have their second reunion, getting together for lunch and a whole bunch of hugs next month. Stay tuned for pictures. :)
Finally, did someone say we should have a Tea Party? I say, "Let's!" Put on your Finest outfit, don your favorite chapeau, and come join the party already in progress.
Tea Party Etiquette
  • Remember to say, "Please" and "No thank you."
  • Place your napkin on your lap.
  • Keep your lips closed when you are eating.
  • Take one of each foods you are offered.
  • Place your used teaspoon on the saucer under your teacup.
  • Say your goodbyes and thank yous when you leave the party.
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer
"Last PING!"
SOBBING HERE - SAY IT ISN'T SO, Billie !!"
Was on my way back from Myrtle Beach and couldn't respond!
No more Pings would be devastating, I tell you..:))
The LadyX had a Most Excellent Adventure, staying in a 4th floor oceanfront suite with a balcony, and blessed with ideal weather.
When we arrived, it was breezy with the slow departure of Henri off the coast, but subsided and did not rain. Night temperatures were about 65 and days 75 -78....had prime rib buffet one night and seafood buffet the next - breakfasts out, too.
Deadhead, we were amazed that Myrtle Beach is immaculate and spruced up, compared with out last trip there four years ago.
This is the BEST time to go there, the college crowds gone - most families with children in school gone - too early for the influx of Canadians that comes in October - most of the better restaurants still open full hours, etc.
After living there from 1966-1968, it is astonishing to see the growth southward.
We made a sentimental journey through what was Myrtle Beach AFB. Gone are the entrance buildings - new sweeping road approaches changing the landscape, the airfield becoming the Myrtle Beach Airport and base housing converted to civilian use. The housing units (singles and duplexes with parquet floors and big back yards) units have been refinished and look even better than they did then! Are leased on a yearly basis at a hefty price - but it is quiet and safe.
The Elementary School where I taught is in use as a branch of a Technical College, and as we drove by, the students were outside by the flagpole at a Memorial Service for 9/11 - life goes on in a different way.
Gone are the old feelings I used to have of abandonment by America that year when he was in Southeast Asia, stemming the advance of communism that threatened to overwhelm all of Asia at the time.
What remains is finding it unbelievable that so many still harbor the concept that PEACE can be had merely by wishful thinking !!!
Today's thread is asolutely beautiful, Billie, serving as a reminder of the kind of lovely and peaceful thngs our military ensures we might have and enjoy....
(How is that for a graceful step down from the soapbox?! LOL)
Yes - the theme today was welcome after an emotional week for America - - -
I missed all of you!
I saw the cowgirls. I grew up in a small town that had a rodeo every May and the whole town was taken over by cowboys and horses. Everybody had their western outfits.
After living in Houston, I think everybody should attend the Houston Livestock show at least once to see the outfits and the diamonds that go to the rodeo!
I have a picture with me in my cowgirl outfit taken with Red Ryder! I was about 12 and so proud. We had big name stars--Red Ryder wasn't one of them. LOL! I love horses - at a distance. Clint Black's great-grand-father was the first mayor of my hometown. Clint appeared in the rodeo several years ago and in 3 months was a big star.
I'm not a big CW music fan. I understand in his day, Tex Ritter, father of John was almost as big as Johnny Cash.
Did you see the moon rise?I was in that area once and it blew me away.I also waded with the dolphins.
I went back to California with pneumonia and double ear infections developing. I had wondered why I hadn't been "up to a tour" the last day!I'm glad you had a good time.
Hi, Maggie! So glad you're back and that you had a fabulous "time out" at Myrtle Beach! Darn FR is hiccup'in a lot today - I kept checking to see if my post to lonestar went through before 'sending' it again - and now I see it's posted at least 3 times, as is your post. :(
Glad you like today's thread - had an idea you might. :)
Dear Billie, I just got back from my first day of substitute teaching and saw this. How very sweet *snif, blush, get the tissue* Today, I was watching my little first graders with their friends. Once I came back over to the story area and two little girls were sitting up with a coat pulled over their heads whispering and giggling... How sweet frindship is, and what special sisters are here on FR's Finest :) Thank you so juch for this thread, and including me... uh oh, need tissues again. cheers to you all Finest girlFriends :)
It really was a wonderfully delightful and restful time, Billie.
MEG, clouds obscured the moonrises at night, but I saw it in the morning before it vanished.
That was offset by two beautiful dawns, watched from the balcony, with First Coffee..:))
It was not a novelty for me, born and reared on the East Coast of Florida and there years later; lived at MB for two years and visited most years when I lived in North Carolina (20 years), but always a thrill when you watch it.
