ANNOUNCEMENTS!!
Congratulations to never4get! He picked 12 of 16 games correctly for last week's picks!! Your "prize" for winning is below. Please feel free to choose whichever one you'd love to have!! Be sure to look to make your current NFL picks by choosing from the games listed below!
**IMPORTANT**
Due to the schedule for last week, we wanted your NFL picks on Wednesday night. From now on, we will leave the picks opened until Saturday night at Midnight EST. Make sure to Freepmail your picks to MoJo2001 here. Also, we will announce the winner on the following Canteen Sports Thread. Thank you! We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
Here are the "prizes" that never4get can choose from. We know it will be difficult, but you will win an ACTUAL PRIZE at the end of the regular season. Until then, choose one.
Be the envy of all your friends!! Pick this "prize" and you will learn how to drive into things and walk away clueless as ever. Would you like to learn how to drive other people's cars and total them?? Well, we've found the school for you!!
Meet Mr. Goat, otherwise known as "HEY YOU" by Mr.Tonkin, the loveable do nothing pet of Mr.Tonkin. While he doesn't necessarily restrict his dietary needs to grass, he's sure to eat you out of your house. He's as slow and dumb as Eeyore. However, you can't go wrong with a creature that never talks back. Choose Mr. Goat and you'll be happier for it!!
NOW FOR THE BIG "PRIZE"!!!
We spared no expense with this one. As a matter of fact, you won't have to pay for anything in this next "prize". Are you ready for the truly BIG "PRIZE"? Well, here it is:
Tom's Couch with Tom laying on it! Woohoo! You'll have an instant Football and Beer Buddy for NFL games. And that's not all! We'll chip in some deodorizer to help the Couch and Tom smell good while at your house. What more could a person want??
*Disclaimer: The Canteen Sports Crew are not responsible for Tom or Tom's couch. We are not responsible for any grocery, electric, water, or cable bills. We are not responsible for any items that may be broken while Tom lives at your house. We are also not responsible for the reaction that your family may give you when you choose this "prize". We will not be held accountable for any burping or belching that you may encounter when you offer Tom beverages. We are not responsible for his, yours, or anyone else's well being. We're cheapskates. You should know that by now!!!
For everyone else that didn't win, aren't you depressed you didn't win the "prize" this week? Well, there's one way to fix that. You can win next week's "prize". Be sure to make your picks and then stay tuned for what you'll win. |
Down To Business!!WHAT DID WE LEARN AFTER THE SECOND GAME? 1. The "cream puffs" do bite back! 2. Auburn's National Championship run is over! 3. USC is for real! 4. San Diego State and Wake Forest are impressive. Just ask Ohio State and NC State.
For week two!
Doing The Right Thing Award: Ohio State University has suspended sophomore running back Maurice Clarett for a year. Whether he'll return to the team next year is unsure, but MoJo is proud that Ohio State did not put football above the rules. If you break the rules, you deserve to lose your privilege of playing sports!
MoJo would be just as bad if this were another school and they let that player back for the season. What he did was wrong and now he'll pay the price. Let this be another example of being young, gifted, and stupid. Should've Stayed Home Award: Virginia was ranked in the Top 25 going into the South Carolina game. No longer! After being pummeled by the Gamecocks, Virginia will have to fight to get back into the Top 25. Purdue was also in the same position. While they didn't drop out of the standings, it would be well advised not to take "cream puffs" for granted the next time around. Auburn should play better now that they are out of National Championship contention.
They Play Four Quarters For A Reason Award: Congratulations to the Florida Gators for an impressive scoring fest versus the highly potent Miami Hurricanes. Oh! Bummer about losing in the final minutes of the game. MoJo thought Florida seemed to give up or at least Coach Zook looked like he was playing very conservative with the play calling. It cost Florida in the end. "We Get No Respect" Award: NBC announcers during the Notre Dame game. Notre Dame gets no respect? Please! They get too much respect sometimes. (Most of the time!) Notre Dame is usually ranked in the Top 25 whether they deserve to be there or not. They can lose 2 games in the season and still manage to stay in the Top 10 until other undefeated schools finally get the nod to go ahead.
"SOMEONE HAS TO WIN THIS" AWARD: Buffalo still lost. Well, at least the Buffalo Bills kicked some butt this past weekend!! "MR. BIG STUFF AWARD": Congratulations to those schools that ran up the score against really "stiff" competition. How great do you feel this week?? Michigan beating Houston 50 something to 3. Oh! You are sooo good!! Or, how about Virginia Tech whipping up on James Madison 43-0. Powerful stuff there guys!!"YOU'VE SHOULD HAVE COME" AWARD: This is dedicated to the Washington Huskies fans who spent all of the week before venting about how awful their team was. If you had the opportunity to be around any of the Huskies fans, they were ready to fire the coach and start all over. They were remembering the Don James Era with sadness. Amazing what a week makes. This weekend the fans were celebratory and not as depressed. Why? Their Huskies played the Indiana Hoosiers. (Think of them as the Cincinnati Bengals of the NCAA!)
"WE ARE OVERRATED" AWARD: Hello Auburn Tigers! Enough said! Hey! You are still ranked. For this week. Good luck the rest of the season! (Yes! This was last week and funny--it's also this week's!)
Here are the games! Good luck everyone!
WEEK 2 GAMES
Sunday, Sep. 14 Buffalo at Jacksonville, 1:00 pm Cleveland at Baltimore, 1:00 pm Detroit at Green Bay, 1:00 pm Houston at New Orleans, 1:00 pm Miami at N.Y. Jets, 1:00 pm Pittsburgh at Kansas City, 1:00 pm San Francisco at St. Louis, 1:00 pm Tennessee at Indianapolis, 1:00 pm Washington at Atlanta, 1:00 pm Carolina at Tampa Bay, 4:05 pm Seattle at Arizona, 4:05 pm Cincinnati at Oakland, 4:15 pm Denver at San Diego, 4:15 pm New England at Philadelphia, 4:15 pm Chicago at Minnesota, 8:30 pm Monday, Sep. 15
Dallas at N.Y. Giants, 9:00 pm WHAT DID WE LEARN AFTER THE FIRST GAME??
1. Perhaps Kurt Warner is human after all. 2. Never cut a popular and loyal player that will play against you in the first week. HELLO NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS! 3. The Cincinnati Bengals still suck! 4. So do the Chicago Bears. 5. Football experts are still annoying. 6. Commercials are better for the NFL. 7. No one chose the Houston Texans to "upset" the Miami Dolphins. Isn't that why they play the game on the field? Go figure! What a concept! 8. Randy Moss, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, is a much better player when you don't hear anything from him or about him. Congratulations for surviving the Pre-Season! 9. Officiating in the NFL is still useless. 10. The Ravens "dominating" defense couldn't even dominate the water boy last Sunday. 11. The Tuna, Bill Parcells, will have a lot of work to do.
MOST IMPORTANTLY:
JERRY JONES, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, DID NOT ENTER THE FIELD ON SUNDAY!! Write this down folks. It's a historic day to mark! If the Cowboys lose again this weekend, it will be the last time this happens!! |

Listening to a leftover copy of the Patriotic Music CD. I could listen to it everyday. Well, that's enough of me babbling about useless topics of no relevance to anyone else's life but my own. Hehehe!

First off THANK YOU to Kathy and MoJo for helping me get the timeline posted. MoJo you designed my idea better than I could have ever imagined. I got very choked up reading it and seeing the layout you did for me. A heartfelt thanks.
To everyone at the Canteen who supports those of us in the military again I say thank you from all opf us to all of you. I'm working on a story for publication on all of you and about your supporst for us. I'll keep you posted.
Two years ago today my life changed in ways that I can't find words to describe. I lost no related to me in the attacks, I did lose several members of my Army "family" at the Pentagon. To this day I want to cry when I recall what happened two years ago. It had positive effects too. 9/11 was what pushed me to finally commit to returning to active duty military service. And it caused me to realize what was truly important in my life and focus on those things. One of those "important things" and I just passed our first wedding anniversary in July.
I know it sounds corny, but if there is someone in your life who matters to you but for whatever reason you haven't had contact with them in awhile. Call them, talk to them, let them know you are still there. 9/11 proved that if you put something like that off, tomorrow may never come. I'm going to be doing a couple stories on our remembrances in Iraq today and I'll post them as soon as they are ready. I'm posting below the remarks I prepared for our brigade commander, Col. Russ Gold for our ceremony tonite here at Briagde HQ. This is a function that is normally reserved tfor the Public Affairs officer. So it's really something that I was tasked to do it. Never Forget!
John
Proposed 9/11 Remarks For Col. Gold
Two years ago, at nearly this exact moment, our commander-in-chief addressed all of us sitting here as well as the rest of the nation on the events of what turned out to be the single greatest act of terrorism ever executed in our country. The president told a stunned nation that these acts shattered steel but they cannot shatter the steel of our resolve. All of you sitting here tonite are living proof that the resolve of the United States, its people and more importantly its military in fact hasnt been shattered but has only been strengthened by the cowardly acts of September 11th 2001.
The terrorist acts of 9/11 did for all of us what the terrorist acts of December 7th 1941 did for our fathers and grandfathers a generation ago, it woke the sleeping giant that is the United States and brought this country together in its resolve and determination in a way that it never had before. Today, two years down the road, we remain united in our efforts to wipe out the global stain of terrorism that brought so much death and destruction to our doorstep. Some of those victories are easy to see, like the elimination of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the fact that you are sitting here right now in Baghdad, Iraq and Saddam Hussein and his thuggish regime are not. Other victories in the war on terrorism will never see the light of day. But they are no less important. The war on terrorism is far from over, terrorists continue to do their best to stop us, to weaken us, to kill as many of the infidels as they can. Proof of that is out there on the streets of this very city where soldiers still lose their life on a daily basis. But our enemies today are finding out what our enemies 62 years ago found out as well, that once you awaken the sleeping giant, it doesnt rest, it doesnt stop until the job is finished and the enemy is vanquished.
None of us will ever forget what happened two years ago today. All of us were affected in different yet very deep ways by what happened. Whether it was the personal tragedy of losing a relative or close friend in the attacks themselves, or the loss of a fellow soldier, someone you might not have known personally, but was part of the family that is the United States Army. For some of you, the attacks of September 11th are the very reason you are wearing the uniform of your nations military at this moment. Hold tight to those memories of that day, never forget how you felt as you watched that tragedy unfold.
Use them as your motivation too go out each and every day and do the job youve been assigned to do to the best of your ability. Because in some small way, the job were doing here today, tomorrow and next month is just one more step in wiping out the terrorist organizations and the people and countries that sponsor them. The job youre doing right now, tells those would like nothing better than to pull off another terrorist act bigger than 9/11 never again, not on my watch, not in my country.

What's a crow bar & my husband have to do with Hollywood?
It's been awhile since I saw the film (and naive, uninformed, totally non-withit person that I am, even after I'd seen the film and read the book I was shocked to read that the lesbians in some gay pride org were upset because the film totally ignored the lesbian overtones that I was too clueless to notice were there in the first place, but am I rambling? Do I digress? Nahhhhh not me!); however, ....
When the Kathy Bates character decides to get assertive and take control of her life, she grabs a crowbar and starts tearing down a wall in her house. Yells "Tuwanda" or something like that when she does it! Her husband wasn't home at the time. Anyhow, now that you've had a glimpse of how my mind does and does not work, that's the scene that popped into my head when you mentioned crowbar. Clear as lard now?

God Bless You, txradioguy! Thank you so much for taking time out to express how you feel. I can't seem to see my monitor very well. It's teary eyed for some reason. Darn monitor.
Don't you allow that monitor to get teary eyed okay?? *HUGS* When you come home, we will have such a celebration. Your family will think you've met a bunch of looney internet people. (They'd be almost correct! Hehehe!) Stay safe! Prayers sent daily on your behalf my friend! *HUGS*

Actually, I'm getting ready to make some Blueberry muffins for my little guys so they'll have something nice to eat with their Eggs and Sausage.
Bobby's school will be marking September 11th in school with a moment of silence and a PRAYER! (Yes! A Prayer!) I'm going to take them out tonight and get a pizza. Or maybe not. Who knows!!
I try not to cry on this day because I want those terrorists to know that we are made of something better, greater, and stronger than their hatred. Still I suffer setbacks. And you?
