Schwarzenegger brands Prop. 54backers as "right-wing crazies"
California Political News and Views | September 8, 2003 | Stephen Frank

Posted on 09/09/2003 7:07:37 AM PDT by sruleoflaw

I post this information with the following comments.

As Republicans and conservatives activists, we know that Mr. Schwarzenegger has refused to sign a no tax hike pledge, refused to take a position on California's Family Leave Act (a major job-killer), supports homosexual domestic partners (opposed by 61% of Californians), supports gay adoption, supports abortion, has said that Proposition 187 is history and that he doesn't mind illegal aliens staying here, and in an unbelievably inept statement, said he will ask the Democrat Legislature to repeal the law giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens (as if the Democrats John Burton and Herb Wesson will give him his request). There is only one way to stop drivers licenses for illegals -- the McClintock-California Republican Assembly referendum effort. AND NOW, AS THE TOPPER, Mr. Schwarzenegger has opposed Proposition 54 AND CALLED THE SUPPORTERS OF THIS MEASURE (WHICH INCLUDES THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PARTY) 'RIGHT-WING CRAZIES'.

I have one or two questions for Mr. Schwarzenegger's followers. Do you support Proposition 54? Does Proposition 54? Do you accept Arnold's name-calling toward me, you and others? Is Arnold's name-calling indicative of what he feels toward conservatives.

Mr. McClintock has offered to debate Mr. Schwarzenegger -- ONE ON ONE, MAN TO MAN. Let them debate...and then we'll choose a course of action.

29 DAYS TILL RECALL--FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, LORD ALMIGHTY, FREE AT LAST

MAJOR STORY--ARNOLD CALLS SUPPORTERS OF PROP 54, TO END RACIAL PROFILING, "Right Wing Crazies".

Dear Political Activist:

Conservative elected officials, many of them, have endorsed Arnold. His reply to them? He calls them "right wing crazies". Why, because they oppose racial profiling and believe all people should be treated equally.

Arnold has come out against Prop. 54, which has been endorsed by the California Republican Party. Yet, Arnold calls supporters of the measure, including the California Republican Party, "right wing crazies." Also calling supporters of Prop. 54 (which ends racial profiling) "right wing crazies" are Cruz Bustamante and Gray Davis.

Why does Arnold have to name call? Is this how he is going to unify the Republican Party by name calling? Shame on him. He needs to apologize to everyone of his endorsers and the CRP for another example of outrageous conduct.

Here is the original of the story:

"Yesterday, a member of our staff attended an event at which Arnold Schwarzenegger was in attendance. Here is the exchange that took place:

Justin: "So I know you haven't made a decision on Prop 54--"

[I was going to go further and attempt to make our case when he cut me off right there.]

Arnold: "No, I have made a decision. I'm against it. It looks good on the surface, but when you study it you see its true intentions. It was a no-brainer, once I looked at all the reading and all the materials. I do a lot of work with after school programs, a lot of these kids are minorities, and we need to know how they're doing and bring them up to the starting line. It was a no-brainer. And if the right-wing crazies have a problem with that, so be it."

We are absolutely convinced of the fact that because Justin is black, Arnold presumed that he is one of those liberal "minorities" who wanted to hear that kind of patronizing message."

http://www.nationalreview.com/thecorner/03_09_07_corner-archive.asp#013121 ARNOLD & PROP. 54 [John J. Miller] Yesterday I named three things Arnold S. could to do to appeal to conservatives. I neglected to mention a fourth: Endorse Proposition 54, Ward Connerly's latest initiative, which would ban the state from collecting information about the race and ethnicity of its citizens. For a couple of weeks, AS has said he's studying Prop. 54 and would announce his decision before Election Day. Last night, however, Connerly emailed to say AS has come out against Prop. 54. The candidate also added this little flourish: "And if the right-wing crazies have a problem with that, so be it." It is becoming increasingly clear that there is no conservative case to be made for Schwartzenegger. The man has given us "right-wing crazies" almost nothing except the hope that he might win. Friends, this is the definition of a Pyrrhic victory.

Arnold should have read this before he spoke: 10 REASONS TO SUPPORT PROPOSITION 54 Prop 54 will bar the state and all local California governments from collecting racial data in the areas of public education, employment, contracting and most other government operations. Reasonable exemptions exist for medical research subjects and patients, data collection required by federal law or for federal funds, certain activities of law enforcement and the Dept. of Fair Housing and Employment. The state legislature, by a two-thirds vote and with the governor's approval, can vote to exempt any other reasonable area. This initiative builds on Proposition 209 by eliminating race classifications in those areas where preferences are outlawed.

Race has become less and less a factor in determining the fates and fortunes of Americans. For that reason, the state should get out of the racial classification business and end the invidious practice of dividing by race. Racial classifications originate in the 17th-century slavery system and should be torn down, not propped up by government sanction. Furthermore, the classifications are unscientific and arbitrary: How much black blood makes a person black? Who counts as Hispanic? To what race do multiracial people belong?

By pitting racial groups against one another, racial classifications foster more resentment and disharmony, not less. America will never get over its race problem as long as some insist on obsessively focusing on skin color as a defining characteristic. The historic Civil Rights Movement was not waged for an America where the government required every citizen to present his or her race as a prerequisite for any government transaction. It was waged for an America where the government treated all citizens equally before the law. John F. Kennedy once said, "Race has no place in American life or law".Prop 54 will lead to that world where government disregards race.

Our government serves as a model of justice and equality for all citizens. If we truly want a color-blind society to happen someday, the first, measured step towards that goal is to establish a color-blind government. As the most diverse state in the Union, California has the most to gain from ending racial classifications. Whatever group may be up today could be down tomorrow; every Californian will be better off being treated equally under the law.

With California's state budget as much as $38 billion in the hole, our state needs to save every dollar it can. A great place to start will be the elimination of the reams of paperwork used to track race data, the numberless computer programs engineered to tabulate it, and the wasted time of countless employees entering the useless data into the system. As more Americans marry across lines of race, more children of multiracial descent are born. California, as the most diverse state, has more multiracial people than any other. These people don't fit into any one box. Why should the government require them to deny their full heritage by checking a box?

As long as we are trapped in the mindset that the only way to get past race is to obsessively track and tabulate it, we will never get past it. The only way to reach a color-blind society is to actually start behaving like we have one. It will not magically come about on its own. *********************************************************************************** FROM THE POLITICAL FRONT:

Arnold has shown himself not ready for prime time in this campaign, but maybe by October 7 he will be ready. A few examples:

1. He claims that in January, as Governor, he will "rescind" SB60 allowing illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses. His staff should have told him that Governors don't rescind laws--they veto them, they create initiatives, they speak out against them, but Governors can't rescind laws.

2. He will "audit every agency of government. He will "open the books". Actually, it is the job of the Controller to audit the books, and he can at any moment, without warning. The Governor can issue an audit demand and get it.

But, what do audits determine? They find waste and corruption. An audit does not tell if a program is good or bad, or if needed. Is he saying that the money problem of the state is waste and corruption, $38 billion dollars worth? Let him tell us, before we vote, what he will cut, or at least which programs are on the table.

3. The only "debate" he is willing to participate in is where he gets the questions five days in advance. In Hollywood, that is called "a script". (stolen from Jay Leno)

***************************************************** Let us remember, the first goal is to Recall Gray Davis. This is becoming a problem. Look at this:

Davis Ouster May Not Be A Sure Thing http://www.oaklandtribune.com/Stories/0,1413,82%257E1865%257E1616811,00.html

The gubernatorial recall races hit their mud-slinging midpoint this weekend amid a surprising and perhaps decisive twist -- signs a growing number of voters miss the "good old days" of just being unhappy with Gov. Gray Davis. Front-running replacement candidates Cruz Bustamante and Arnold Schwarzenegger have swiftly fallen into such a swamp of criticism and uncertainties that Davis' ouster no longer appears inevitable, say many Democrats and independent analysts. *************************************************************** POLL FOR THE WEEK:

The Bush Administration is asking the United Nations to get involved in the Iraq situation. Do you support or oppose the UN's involvement at this time?

Please vote yes or no and send your response and reasons to: stephenfrank@sbcglobal.net

Fun Comments from a friend. If someone from Arnold's camp would like to submit a Dr. Seuss, happy to reprint it.

From Sylvia Sullivan. 8/29/03, of San Diego County:

With Apologies to Dr. Seuss

Will you for Arnold vote?

I will not for Arnold vote! Not in a boat, not by a goat

Not with the fans he boasts Not by the money he gloats

By right stand, I am No matter dire predictions I'll stand by my convictions!

Arnold will not get my vote

Not on a float, not with a dope Not on a whim, not in a gym!

Not with a goose, not on the booze I will not be loose, with the Gov. I choose!

By Tom I stand, I am He has the right plan The man we love, to be our next Gov.!

Yes... exactly. The ellipsis do distort the quote because it leaves the they in the first part of the quote undefined. It allows the reader to determine who the they are... in your case it was 20-25% of the Republican party who are rightwing crazies.

That is spin.

I don't have the rest of the quote.

What I said to you is that you have good, strong reasons for not wanting to vote for Arnold. You have uncompromisingly presented them on other threads.

To use this half-quote with out context against Arnold is cheap... and it is spin.

Now, if you have the part of the quote the ellipsis hides... and it confirms your take on the quote... by all means print it.

By right now... you have reached a conclusion and have charged Arnold with insulting 20-25% of the Republican party (not just here, but on other threads too). When I read the quote... I don't find an insult but a defense of Republicans against the perception that we are all right-wing crazies.

Without Arnold or riordan or any other leftist republicans entering the race. The match up would have been Tom -vs- Busty

You have a very short memory. Just two weeks ago Simon and Issa were also in the race. They only got out becasue Arnold got in. Without Arnold it would be a three-way split instead of two.

Think of it this way. Three weakling republicans were in a pool showing off their bodies to the girls. Arnold jumped in and scared two of them away. Tommy looks around at the empty pool and thinks HE scared them away. Worse, he now thinks he has a better chance with the girls. The the other boys on the sidelines don't like Arnold, so they tell Tommy he's the man, and Tommy is dumb enough to believe them.

Sorry, but it's time for a reality check.

>> The Rat plan is working to perfection. They are actually going to win the governorship with about 35% of the vote. <<

Not to worry, the dopey pragmatic Republicans INSISTED "ANYONE" was better than Davis when they argued recall would be a win-win scenario if it gets on the ballot. (of course, they reversed course and screamed that Arinold was the "only" acceptable canddiate when recall became a reality.)

Of course, these same guys said ANYONE would be better than Condit and they got Cardoza. Those who do not learn from their mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

STOP crossing over to elect a popular socialist over an unpopular one, and the popular socialists will stop being elected.

It may be, it may not be... that depends on the rest of the quote, and what the ellipses mean. They might not change Arnold's meaning at all, or they might just signify verbal pauses in his radio appearance on the Hannity show.

I don't have the rest of the quote.

You don't have the whole quote, and don't know if indeed this is a half quote.

I've given my impression on the quote, as written. If you can find some other version that undercuts my interpretation, I'll be more than willing too look at it, and concede the point if I'm wrong.

Now, you are changing the first post that got me interested in the subject...

You have charged on this thread and one other that Arnold has called 20-25% of the Republican party rightwing crazies... and because of this insult you won't be voting for him.

Come on... why descend so low? Are you that afraid that Arnold might win?

If you want to continue to use a quote and spin it your way, well, who am I to stop you. But, you are better than that.

No. I'm not voting for him because he's running away from Proposition #187, and has stated plans to lobby Washington to legalize "undocumented immigrants" if elected.

If he modifies those positions, I'll consider voting for him.

I'm also concerned that he won't support a referendum to overturn SB60, which is the only available means of keeping driver's licenses out of the hands of the Illegals.

The "right wing crazies" comments are just plain stupid, things he probably picked up from his in-laws. By themselves they aren't deal-breakers for me, though the will be for others.

Are you that afraid that Arnold might win?

Given most of the positions he's taken, yes.

If you want to continue to use a quote and spin it your way, well, who am I to stop you.

Seems to me you're perfectly capable of proving me wrong, if you can find evidence that I am wrong.

In the second part of the recall election, voters select Cruz Bustamante at 33% and Arnold Schwarzenegger at 28%. Following the two front runners are: Tom McClintock (12%), Peter Ueberroth (10%), and Arianna Huffington (3%). These results include respondents who are leaning in favor of a candidate.

The second part of the special election will list candidates running to replace Governor Davis if he is recalled. You still get a chance to cast a vote for one of the replacement candidates, even if you voted NO, not to recall Governor Gray Davis, or you do not vote at all on the first part of the recall. Now, if the recall election was being held today, and you had to make a choice, for which one of the following candidates would you vote?
(Randomize choices)

33% Cruz Bustamante, Democrat
28% Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican
12% Tom McClintock, Republican
10% Peter Ueberroth, Republican
3% Arianna Huffington, Independent
2% Bill Simon, Republican
1% Larry Flynt, Democrat
1% Peter Miguel Camejo, Green Party
* Other names (vol)
7% Undecided / refused (vol)
3% Would not vote for any (vol)

>> It's really about abortion. This group would rather vote for a dogcatcher with pet allergies who says he's pro-life than for someone who could actually do his job. <<

Find me a Republican nominee who's liberal on abortion but conservative ON EVERYTHING ELSE and guess what?... they've got my vote. Barry Goldwater was like that in '64, and conservatives loved the guy.

Hell, find me a Republican nominee who even manages to vote the way I want 51% and guess what?... they've got my vote. Governors Jim Edgar and Bob Elrich were like that during that campaign, and most conservatives found them acceptable. They really WERE moderates and "middle of the road", not Kennedy-style "Republicans" who pledged to "never forgive" the party during impeachment.

Your boy Arnie is liberal 90% of the time. On most social issues, he's a LIBERAL. On most fiscal issues, he's a LIBERAL. You can keep denying it and PRETENDING everyone who opposes them wants a "pure" candidate. We don't. We want someone who acts remotely conservative. Arnold is not, nor even will remotely conservative. You're not getting "Half a loaf" with Arnie or even BREAD CRUMBS with the guy. You're getting Davis with an "R" next to his name. Davis was a moderate Democrat, just like Arnie. They don't have to be Maxine Water types screwballs to be solid leftists, they just have to believe in the 'RAT party platform.

You guys remind me of the deranged media types who keep calling Jeffords a "moderate" who's only opposition was "the far right wing". Have you noticed "moderate" Jeffords is berating the DEMOCRAT leadership council for not being liberal ENOUGH lately?

HUGE NEWS ON DRIVERS LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS

We all know that Davis and Bustamante support drivers licenses for illegal aliens. We also know that Mr. Schwarzenegger, in an act of complete stupidity, said he would ask the Democrat State Legislature to repeal the law giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens (this is an absolutely worthless political gesture worth about a $3 bill). NOW, ACCORDING TO THE SF CHRONICLE, MR. SCHWARZENEGGER IS OPPOSING THE CRA-MCCLINTOCK REFERENDUM TO STOP DL'S FOR ILLEGALS. WE NEED TO GET SOME LINKS AND GET THIS ARTICLE ON THE INTERNET. Personally, I wonder what the Schwarzenegger minions will do NOW to defend their little RINO.

ONLY THE CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN ASSEMBLY and Tom McClintock are acting to protect Californians' security from terrorists, and from illegals who are also criminals being given drivers licenses.

Arnold also told the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday that he is opposed to the Republican effort by CRA President Mike Spence and others to file a referendum on SB60 which would allow illegal alliens to have California Driver’s licencses starting on January 1st without such action. It will be interesting to see how the Terminator explains this one. You can see why he has NO interest in a real debate with Senator McClintock on the stage!

I read one of the later posts that you asked (as you said at 5:15 AM) not to post to you. I don't read my email from FR, so I truly was not aware of your request. If I had known, I would not have posted anything in your direction.

However, I find it interesting that you, in effect, called me a horse's a$$, as you have done to State Sen. McClintock. I have had exchanges with you before and even though I disagree with you, I was impressed by your credentials. It is really too bad that you are so nasty and mean to people.

BY THE WAY, ANY THOUGHTS ON ARNOLD OPPOSING THE REFERENDUM TO GIVE DRIVERS LICENSES TO ILLEGAL ALIENS? Isn't that just typical for a RINO?
