Clarett faces indefinite suspension
Is Maurice Clarett's OSU career over?

Staff Report

New information is coming to light in the investigation of Ohio State University running back Maurice Clarett. The university might not seek Clarett's reinstatement from the NCAA, as reports of him receiving extra benefits begin to surface.

10TV has learned that OSU tailback Maurice Clarett faces an indefinite suspension following an investigation into his finances, and other potential violations of NCAA bylaws.

In addition, WJW-TV in Cleveland reports that the investigation is complete and that OSU will make its recommendation to the NCAA regarding Clarett. WJW reports that the investigation concluded that Clarett has received thousands of dollars in extra benefits, in addition to Clarett's alleged uncooperative behavior with investigators. WJW also reports the university will not seek Clarett's reinstatement to the football team. That effectively ends his career at Ohio State.

I don't think him sitting out will help that. He's got a weak lead shoulder among other things.

That is a disgusting thing to see. If I had eaten breakfast it would be in jeopardy of coming up.

LOL. Good one. Maybe the teams should form penal leagues.

If Clarett were smart he would have went to a school in Florida. He then could have done all this, smoked crack, killed someone, and have his team rated as a top 25 team because of their geography. Not to mention that the Heisman would have been his last year and for as many seasons as he stayed in college.

Tressel is a Christian who believes in forgiveness and giving the benefit of the doubt to his players. He probably wanted to be a mentor to him. Clarett chose poorly who is his mentor (Jim Brown??? WTH?) and now he is going to live the entitlement lifestyle with Johnny Cochran jumping in shortly.

This whole story is a joke. As is always the case, OSU knew exactly what kind of @sshole they were getting when they signed Clarett in the first place.

As a OSU fan, I have to say that Maurice had about the best opportunity as a player, coming in as a power player to a good team with a great coach. Not many people ever get such a chance.

It is really unfortunate. He had a chance to build a good college and professional career, as well as getting a decent education. Too bad he isn't listening to advisors like Archie Griffin. A lot can happen to a player on his way to "wealth and glory" in the pro ranks. He could get hurt. He might have "other problems" (e.g., gambling). He might simply not be good enough to make a team. In those cases, having a college degree might help (note: might) with alternatives.

The team doesn't need this distraction. It takes away from the accomplishments of true student athletes. Their QB, for example. Krenzel is an academic All-American, a molecular genetics major with an A- average. That's the kind of guy I like to see on these teams, getting scholarship support.

Clarett ignores a role model like Marcus Allen and instead opts for Jim Brown. Jim Brown already accused Andy Geiger, OSU Athletic Dir of being a "slave master". Nice PR move Maurice.

I remember a SI article several years where Brown was interviewed. In it he comments that he has fathered 16 children (that he knows of). A few weekes later, I saw where some organization was awarding him as 'man of the year'. Nice role model. And get rid of that goofy hat!

He finished High School early to attend spring practices, he quickly became a leader in the locker room.

All signs pointed to a kid who grew up in a crappy environment trying to get out...but old habits die hard and money speaks volumes to people like Clarett. His greed got to him. I blame it all on him...not OSUs recruiting.

OSU is shocked, shocked to find that there are unscrupulous things going on with Mr. Clarett.

Thug Clarett won't last half a season in the NFL.

He couldn't even make it through the Big Ten season without being dinged up several times.

And NFL teams hit a whole helluva lot harder than does Purdue and Minnesota.
