I was lucky to be in Texas during the 60s except for a year in Germany(husband's business).I never knew a person who would spit on or denigrate our military.I never witnessed the protests or indeed there were none near me.The nation let our servicemen down and then reneged on aid to the Vietnamese....Jane Fonda is a dirty word.

I lived in Goleta for several years and had to pinch myself that I wasn't visiting..I lived there! So did I! I lived right off of Hollister. I wish we could have stayed there, but there was no way we could afford to and ever be able to own a house and a business. As they say, Santa Barbara is for the newly wed and nearly dead. It is an expensive place to live!

I thanked a military guy this Sat, and again today, once for opening the door for me and then again for his service.
The City of Memphis employment division called this morning and offered Dennis the job he applied for as a radio technician, he took it on the spot..he has to pass a physical. No problem there as far as drugs he only takes claratin and tylenol flu for his allergies. Wonder what else is involved in this physical?

Thank you for this post, (((((ladtx)))))))
We have been missing it, but understand your situation with your sons deployed. Thank you for giving us the chance to honor true heroes who have given their all for our sakes, and also to remind us to continue praying for the brave men and women, such as your sons, who are still making sacrifices to secure our freedom.
Please, Father, wrap Your loving arms around the soldiers that have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free. We ask that they remain close to You where they can enjoy all of eternity in peace and without pain, basking in Your love.
We ask this in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Consequently, no American held in Laos was ever returned. By 1989, these"tens of tens" apparently have been forgotten. But, *we* will never forget!
How awfully sad.

I never knew a person who would spit on or denigrate our military. My dad was retired Navy, so I guess you know, I never got anywhere near the "peace" protests. At eighteen, I may have looked the part of the "flower child", ie: the bell bottoms, long straight hair and love beads, but my allegiance has always been to my Country and our military.
That was a sad chapter in our country's history, and I will be forever ashamed that I did not firmly stand up against the "Jane Fondas". Looking back, I realize now that my apathy, and that of others who sat idly by and observed that disgusting display of disrespect toward our military, cannot be justified or in anyway seen as support for our fighting men and women...just because we did not participate. That is why my husband and I have taken to the street corner with others in Fresno this past year waving flags and holding up "support our troops" signs. It won't change the past, but it will help our military now, which is all we can do.

They say stress can appreciably shorten one's lifespan. Ah, but they also say hope springs eternal . . . .
