My dad was retired Navy, so I guess you know, I never got anywhere near the "peace" protests. At eighteen, I may have looked the part of the "flower child", ie: the bell bottoms, long straight hair and love beads, but my allegiance has always been to my Country and our military.
That was a sad chapter in our country's history, and I will be forever ashamed that I did not firmly stand up against the "Jane Fondas". Looking back, I realize now that my apathy, and that of others who sat idly by and observed that disgusting display of disrespect toward our military, cannot be justified or in anyway seen as support for our fighting men and women...just because we did not participate. That is why my husband and I have taken to the street corner with others in Fresno this past year waving flags and holding up "support our troops" signs. It won't change the past, but it will help our military now, which is all we can do.
