The California Mess
Mon

Posted on 09/07/2003 6:57:30 PM PDT by Mon

I wrote this letter to the Armstrong & Getty Show and it was read on the air on Friday Sept. 5, 2003. Thought I share it with you all.

Hello! Love your show!!!!!! I am so mad about this whole thing with drivers license for illegal immigrants etc. I'm a legal immigrant who came to the US in 1992. I am married to an American, because of that my mother-in-law had to sign a piece of paper for the INS stating that, if I need financial help the first 10 years in this country, she will have to provide that, that I am not able to receive welfare for this time! Now, I never planned on getting any welfare, but why should illegal’s get it????? I paid over $600 just to get into the US. I paid another $295 for my American citizenship in 2002 and I didn’t mind any of it.

All these people out there who scream for their rights are very uninformed. This is not about all immigrants anymore, it’s only about a certain race. Anybody who is not Hispanic is not included. All they create is more hate instead of uniting us. Just because I came from a European country doesn’t mean I need to be treated differently.

I speak English since 5th Grade, perfected it more before I moved here, because school English only teaches you the basics. People just have to get off of their behinds and take charge of their own lives. Yes, some believe English doesn’t have to be spoken by everybody in the US, but how stupid are they? We have children in my daughter’s school who do not speak English, their grades are messed up, they can’t talk to most other kids, but then we have to find programs to educate them in Spanish (“no child left behind”)? What about the child from Mongolia in her school? Is there a program for her? No!

Drivers licenses: Why? Who is going to pay if they have an accident? There will be law suits in regards of them legally being allowed to drive, are they going to be required to purchase insurance? Are they starting to pay tax for the money that they receive under the table for working illegally? I pay taxes, I expect others to do the same. A friend of mine almost got deported because she was late renewing her green card, what the heck???? A drivers license gets everybody on a plane, what about that? For anybody to be called a racist or anti-immigrant on this subject is absurd………….. an add on from me that was not included in the letter: a drivers license also buys you a gun.......

Illegals are not all Hispanic. Many are the Europeans, both west and east, as well as Asians and Africans. Hispanics are an easy target. Most illegals are Asians and come in through Washington state or British Columbia.

Very good points!! Besides, VISITING LEGAL foriegners can use thier own countries licenses to drive here LEGALLY while they visit. So people working here on temporary visa's shouldn't have a problem DRIVING here.

Your points about INSURANCE are well put.

WHO is going to pay MY COSTS, MY DEDUCTIBLE when I GET hit by those people who Grey Davis just licensed?

Now it PAYS to do things ILL-legal in California. How do we explain this to our kids.

Talk about mixed messages!!!

I was talking about the Governor only targeting hispanic votes in general. By the way, I love all races and people, and want everybody to be treated equally. If that was misunderstood I'm sorry.

YOU are right. From personal experience, with 2 sons in laws. Why go through all of the hoops, if one can use an alias, pay bribes, work at one job, and collect unemployment benefits from another with fake ID. I know this happens, personal experience. Someone better wake up. And Homeland Security better start wining and dining with the Border Control folks, and wake up and smell the onions.

Oh, I agree with you. I was just fearful that you were targeting Hispanics. Sorry for the misunderstanding and welcome to the good ole USA!

Most illegals are Asians and come in through Washington state or British Columbia.

I have never seen any report that didn't list Mexico as the principal source of illegal aliens. Please substantiate this assertion.

I'm glad you mentioned it, like that I was able to fix it right away for future readers :) I have a few hispanic friends who actually agree with me!

??? We've got millions of illegals just here in California, and I can assure you that the vast majority are Hispanic. They stream in across the Southern border in great numbers on foot.

Well, of course not. Who controls those reports? I remeber many container tankers loaded up with Chinese women who were headed for the sweatshop getting tagged in Seattle about ten years ago.

I'll try to source it for you. I'm not pulling stuff out of the air.

I don't think Mon meant to say they were of ANY particular "race" but rather being "legal" vs "illegal". How in the WORLD did you come out with a race thing?

Just curious.

I know. I grew up in California and lived there until I was 34. Most of the illegals I knew were from Europe or China and there on expired work or student visas.

I am not diminishing the problem, it is just that it is larger than the Mexican issue.

"There will be law suits in regards of them legally being allowed to drive, are they going to be required to purchase insurance?"

Lawsuits are meaningless. The only conceivable method to correct this problem is an referendum on the Kalifornia ballot.

Regarding the insurance question: If they don't have insurance now, what would make one think they will obtain insurance upon receipt of their license?

I understand what you are saying. My posting was only targeted towards the California problem at the moment. Of course there are many undocumented immigrants all over the US from other continents :) Don't fight people, just wanted to share my letter :)

You're very welcome! I congratulate you for coming to our great country legally. My own family (mother's side) crept in from Canada via France, illegally, albeit over 120 years ago. I can't fault people for wanting to come here, but I don't want to suport them either.

Most illegals are Asians

Not exactly.

Immigration from Mexico and central American countries is almost a large as all other groups combined.

Somewhere around 60% of all illegal immigration is from Spanish speaking Mexico, Central and South America. Asians only make up around 25% of the mix, if that much.
