Free Republic's 9-11 100 Hours of Remembrance
Free Republic | 9/6/03 | Free Republic

Posted on 09/06/2003 1:45:49 AM PDT by jriemer

It’s 4:46am September 6.

Its a little more than 100 hours from the Second Anniversary of Start the World Trade Center Attack and the subsequent Strike on the Pentagon and the Crash in Pennsylvania. 100 hours seems to be a long time; however, it is barely enough to reflect and remember all those who perished on the ground and in the air. Each one of the victims has a story, a life, that if retold would take more than 100 hours to appreciate the richness of their stay on this earth before it was snatched away.

Since 911, there has been more sacrifice. More have taken from this earth – this time not in tragedy but in a quest for justice and the expansion of freedom. They were not helpless victims but Heroes of liberation for the Afghanis and Iraqis and protectors of our domestic security.

We would hope that you would take the time and reflect on the lives of those who died on 9-11 and those who have sacrificed their all since that day in these next 100 hours. Please contribute a post of reflection, a prayer, a memorial, a picture or even just a ping to your friends to let them know that 9-11 has not been ignored this year.

Never forget…

Jriemer, Thanks for the ping. Tears are already flowing here.

I don’t have any pictures to share, but I’d like to recount that horrible day:

I was at work like most. I heard 2 people talking in the elevator asking questions like, “How many casualties to you think there are?” I asked what was going on and they told me a plane just hit the WTC. I thought it was an accident.

A software vendor arrived and I asked her what she thought about the plane hitting the WTC. She said, “Not one, two.” I knew at that point it was an attack but the magnitude of these events had still not dawned on me.

We were testing the software and her cell phone rang. She answered and started screaming “Oh my God” again and again. I asked what happened and she said the Pentagon had just been hit. That’s when the magnitude of the day hit me.

I spent the next hour or so in the break room with everyone else in the building watching the news. I watched in sheer horror as the WTC towers collapsed. A sense of disbelief came over me. “This isn’t happening” kept running through my mind. Very shaken, I left work.

I went home and turned on every TV in the house to a different news channel.

The strangest thing about that day was looking out my front door and watching this little boy play with his toy trucks. While my world was forever changed, his world had not been affected. I’ll never forget those few moments. Watching such innocence on the same day that such evil had just manifested itself was a surreal contrast that is burned into my mind forever. It seemed like a strange and twisted dream that I couldn’t wake up from. Somehow, watching that little kid gave me strength. I knew we would get though this.

While I lost no one close to me, others had lost a husband, a wife, a child, a friend. I will keep all the survivors in my prayers. I will read every name posted on this thread as well. I will never forget and I will never forgive those monsters or those that support them.

I will also continue to pray for our men and women in the armed forces. I will pray for their protection, courage, wisdom, and skill. God bless them for protecting our freedom. May we never take our freedom or their sacrifice for granted.

That headline is way too polite. However, this is a family forum.

We should make the kids see the pictures of the suicide jumpers. So they never, ever forget what happened. So this just does not become another Pearl Harbor to some future generation who lost grasp of history because it was not in their lifetime.

Melissa Harrington-Hughes, 31, was on the 101st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. She worked for a software company out of California and was at the WTC meeting executives of management consultancy company Accenture. She was the one who left the message on her husband's answering machine saying that she just wanted to tell him she loved him. They had just celebrated their one-year anniversary in August.

I am pinging the RKBA list to this thread at the request of FReeper "jriemer". Although not RKBA-related, at least not overtly, I deemed it worthy of the consideration of all ever-vigilant and freedom-loving citizens.

Stay safe,
