WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A Department of Homeland Security advisory issued Thursday warns that al Qaeda is working on plans to hijack airliners flying between international points that pass near or over the continental United States.

A Department of Homeland Security official said most of the flights fitting this description originate in Canada, and that U.S. officials have been working with Canada over the past month to ensure it is improving screening and other security measures.

No, not unless we NUKE the Oil Fields!

And then, we'd have a sea of glass to deal with.

By far my biggest fear. 100 shopping malls over ten cities on one week-end would cause a fallout by about the Thursday or Friday that would make 9/11 look like a traffic accident.

Yup .... and I'm sure little ill Kim in NK would be happy to hand them the tools (smallpox) to do it.

A nuke isn't a precision weapon. If a nuke could be dropped within a dozen miles of an oil field and destroy the oil field, this depends on the size of the nuke but assuming it comes from an ICBM it's not going to be a tactical warhead.

Gee... I guess you better flatten the rest of the planet to be entirely safe,

If they kill 10 million Americans with a bio-weapon we just might start with any non-Western country and go from there.

OK, you assume they would use a Mega-ton yield near an oil field...nice to see that you think the Military so dumb...

Second, they are using air-burst at about 1500'. Overpressure and thermal will wipe the surface clean and create a glass plain. Now, the Oil is deep. I'm not discounting some surface contamination, but the general field should be safe.

Any "Radioactive" oil can be used in reactors where it would get exposure to Gammma anyway...so long as the contamination was below (X), and not of a corrosive/damaging particulate nature. ( I know, I've got contacts that confirm this usage.)

Third, we tend to use Fusion, so the dirty stuff is mostly consumed.

One government official noted, however, the United States has no authority to require security measures of non-U.S. carriers whose flights originate outside the United States.

,,, I'm in New Zealand. We're having to comply with new maritime security requirements for container and freight dispatches or else we don't get to trade with the US. We're already meeting stringent security requirements for outbound flights, this should be standard for any carrier from any origin.

And don't forget the neutron bomb, very little surface damage.

FBI agent ... it REALLY pisses them off.

Of course calling ATF agents F Troop members is sure to get a reaction from them as well.

I dunno, shopping malls in our area are like ghost towns. I honestly could not tell you when the last time I was in one, and a big one I pass daily on the way to work/home is almost completely empty. Perhaps they will target football games...

I said the oil could burn off. Remember Gulf War I, I'm not an expert on oil or oil rigs but I'm fairly sure that the pumps weren't pumping while the wells were burning. If you look at my post again I also said I wasn't sure if the would or could burn off. Aswell they may not have a choice of droping a bomb near an oil field, it deoends on how close it is to a city. There's no way I think or would think that the military would interntionally drop a bomb on a oil field unless the US was unable to capture it and it was of extreme importance to whatever country it would/could be used against.

If we make the fence out of bacon it just might work!

Only if it's back bacon.

Well, they have a lot of work to do. I recently took a flight out of Vancouver, B.C. to Salt Lake City. As I walked out of customs and into security, they stopped me and searched my 13 year old sister's bag. No big deal, but they also let 2 Middle Eastern-looking males right through. I was thinking, "You screen me, a caucasian male with an English name, but you let Mohammed and Osama over there right through?"

Gee... I guess you better flatten the rest of the planet to be entirely safe, and hope no terrorists are already on US soil... aye? ; )

Exterminating all life on this planet is well within our capabilities.

Americans aren't very nice when angered.

Ask the survivors of Dresden or Nagasaki.

Have you been asleep? People in this country are bawling over 50 casulties. 1/7 of the people here were not born in the USA. This country is slowly dying from 3rd world invasions and gutless pols. Not to mention the cost on top of our $480 Billion deficit.

I thought I heard the CBO state earlier this week that the deficit would be eraced in a couple of years...
