TAIPEI, Taiwan -- An alliance between Hewlett-Packard Co. and Chinese Linux developer Red Flag Software Co. Ltd. established last month should lead to cooperation between the two companies on technology development and marketing of Red Flag Linux to companies in China and around the world.
The announcement, made in Beijing on Aug. 20, strengthens a long-standing relationship between the two companies and represents a milestone in Red Flag's plans to expand its business outside the world's most populous country.
The two companies plan to first focus their cooperative efforts in China, and then expand their work to include Asia-Pacific and the rest of the world, according to a joint statement released last month by the two companies. No timeframe was given for when Red Flag plans to expand its enterprise software business beyond China.

Here we agree.
But how come you're not bashing HP for this? If it had been IBM, I can only imagine what venom you and CS would be spitting about it.
See post 20. 'This is a sellout of the highest order.' There's just no way they can justify this, other than appeasing the ChiComs.
Hopefully you're starting to see the dangers of Linux. They are REAL.
What do we even need a Dept of Commerce for if they are going to allow our companies to directly aid Communist governments like this. Can you image the uproar in years past if HP had wanted to help develop "Soviet Red Linux"? The world hasn't changed that much since those days.
You have no idea how close that sounds to "Sorry, I did not mean to imply that YOU were a n----- lover........."
Just pointing out how blatant your disgust and revultion toward anyone who likes Linux is.
Huh? The "dangers of Linux"? You've got to be kidding me. What is dangerous about Linux that you couldn't easily do if Linux didn't exist? Nothing that's what.
Really? What are they?
Freedom of choice? Freedom from spyware? Freedom from e-mail virii?
Ah the very real dangerous of Linux.....
There is nowhere to run! The sky is falling, the world is going to come to an end. Fear the Penguin for he/she/it is the fury of God's Wrath made.... flesh.... no..... binary! /sarcasm :)
Not all of the Linux crowd, just the ones I see on the internet a lot. The ones that will be VERY happy to see this, just because it didn't go to M$, or just because it was "good for Linux" which I was referencing. These people don't care about ANYTHING else. Yes, they exist, and you know they do.
Plus the ones that say they don't care even if Unix code was illegally stolen and put into Linux, they will never pay for it. Or the ones that launch denial of service attacks against the Unix code owners.
No I don't find them all repulsive. Just a lot of them. Is it a majority of them? I have no idea, just that there are a lot of them. Your position on this will help identify you as well. So what is it, good for both Linux and America, or just good for Linux? They are certainly not always the same.
Make jokes about loss of technology and security to a foreign advesary if you wish. But I don't find anything humorous about the situation at all. Especially not jokes about the sky falling and the world coming to an end, especially your world. But so long as your little Linux is happy over in China, then you're happy, I guess.
I've only told you a dozen times but you'll never see it. Not if it isn't "good for Linux", priority A Number 1 for you guys, above all else.
Simple. You wouldn't have crumbling software companies in the US while Red China and other advesaries build up their own arsenal of software. This is just like the loss of manufacturing to over there, but now it's software engineering. But don't worry, your little Linux is thriving. It must be a great day for the Linux crowd.
By that same token, we should be allowed to prohibit Linux from use in our own government, wouldn't you agree? The kernel is controlled by a foreign citizen, you know. Or is that somehow different?
It is, because the source code of the kernel is available for examination, audit, security testing, and modification. If the US government wishes to modify the kernel, they may do so.
Try doing that with Microsoft Windows.
Why? Torvalds would have ZERO control over any Linux versions used by the US government (see below).
2. They are allowed to CLOSE THE CODE of any customized high security versions they might build for "in house" use at least. (I do think that the GPL allows for this already in that manditory opening of the source only applies to versions that are going to be distributed in the marketplace.)
Correct--your organization may use the software without releasing the code.
BTW, the NSA is working on a B1-rated Trusted Linux system. They are auditing the kernel, modifying the kernel to support B1 requirements, and they will not release it to the general public.
But closed-source does NOT do a thing to improve system security--or have you forgotten about Blaster, Welchia, and SoBig.f?
3. That programmer libraries that aren't double licensed (Like QT is) be placed under at least the LGPL or another commercial software friendly license.
Again, why is this particularly necessary?
