Miguel Estrada Withdraws Application for Appeals Court Appointment
Fox News on the air

Posted on 09/04/2003 8:49:58 AM PDT by CometBaby

The Democrats have slapped hispanics all across the United States across the face, with their treatment of Miguel Estrada.

They inferred he was dishonest and "not forthcoming" because he refused to humiliate himself by answering the horrible, petty questions they were demanding answers to. He was the first hispanic ever nominated for the SC .. and they wouldn't even allow it to come to a vote. The Democrats shamefully filabustered him for 28 months!! They insulted him with cooked up accusations .. until he finally withdrew his application in total frustration.

After he withdrew, Ted Kennedy quickly went before the cameras and called this honorable man, who was endorsed by Democrats, an "extreme idealog". This just adds insult to injury!

Democrats simply did everything they could to destroy an Hispanic applicant who was appointed by GW Bush. It was strictly polical. What a disgrace for the Democratic party. Shame, shame, shame!

Hispanics have a very strong sense of right and wrong. They know that the Democratic party has used them and taken them for granted. I'm proud that the GOP continues to reach out to Hispanics, and I am confident they will continue to move to the Republican party.

We are left praying you are right.

Otherwise, it's simply a huge defeat for Constitutional government.

"Oh, that's right it is Bush's fault that the demo's did that."

No. It's his fault that the Senate was not forced to a real filibuster.

"And that Bush never really fights for these people is an even greater shame." What an incredibly foolish statement! There is no way Bush could have fought more for
Estrada. BUT.......don't sell him short too quckly. You have not heard the last of Estrada and the Democrats know that.
Watch as Shummer and Kennedy hit the 6:00 o'clock news desperately trying to assure the Hispanics, "We are not racists! We are not using you like we do the Blacks!" This will all be replayed during the next campaign.....and Bush
will win it. Mark my word!

This isn't ALL bad;
Estrada was scarcely a Conservative's dream candidate.

Except by comparison to, say, Souter or Sandy-Day.

And the Senate Republicans... did nothing.

Just out of curiosity, what could they have done that they didn't within the rules. The Senate Democrats have filibustered and stonewalled everything Republicans have tried to do. Shouting louder would have solved nothing since the press reported only what the likes of Kennedy and company said on the issue.

Perhaps I missed something. If so tell what could have been done, legally, to effect a different outcome.

Some of the people on this site sicken me. The RATS have once again treated the constitution like toilet paper by successfully hijacking the nomination process and rather than shower our anger and disdain on the scumbags like Schumer who did the dirty deed we start jumping on our own! The RATS may be lying thieving treasonous power hungry evil incarnate demonic scum but at least they maintain discipline in the face of their enemy.

Just goes to prove that the Republicans in the Senate are cowards. Or worse, they approved of what the Dems were doing. Our President is no better, he could have appointed him during a recess but did not.

Miguel Estrada was badly treated and nobody on "our" side seems to get a rats damn. (present company excluded of course)

The Democrats have slapped hispanics all across the United States across the face, with their treatment of Miguel Estrada.

So now the Republicans get the "right" to play the race card. I hope everyone feels better now that the Republicans now have a nice minority they can use. Republicans are getting more and more like the RATS every day.

Now, the question of the day:

How long will Owens wait before withdrawing her nomination?

Surely, she sees the handwriting on the wall--that her nomination, too, will get little support.

Schumer and Kennedy made me furious. Imagine Schumer saying the WH is arrogant! And Kennedy saying it's a victory for the American people. I, too, walked away from the TV. I got on the phone and called Schumer's office...busy, but left a "lovely" comment. Then called the White House comment line. My comment to the Pres was he needs to lite a fire under Frist and the Rep Senators. Also, commented that if Bush caves to France and the UN, he'll lose support from his core (but where will we go?!)

Why is it ok to have pro-abortion judges but not anti-abortion judges? Call the disgraceful Dims at 1-800-648-3516. Also, check out today's post by chance33_98 re National Voter Registration to Occur in Churches this Sunday. Ask your churches to participate.

"They inferred he was dishonest and "not forthcoming" because he refused to humiliate himself by answering the horrible, petty questions they were demanding answers to."

The only 'questions' that Estrada did not 'answer' was their demand to see his written opinions, provided in confidence while he worked for the atty general of the U.S. No attorney in their right mind would support him doing so.

Every other piece of information the Dems wanted, they got. There were just two issues at play from their perspective:

1. Estrada is a conservative, and conservatism is bad.

2. They wanted to stick it to Bush in whatever way they could, so wimping out and 'fillibustering' (actually the equivalent of them throwing a child's temper tantrum) was the only way they could think of to do it.

I have a lot of faith in Karl Rove. Estrada is no longer a nominee, that means he can "campaign" in 2004. I expect to see him in commercials early next year in key Senate races.

I disagree. Hispanics didn't give a Rat's ass about this issue. No Hispanic outcry at all. There was an "R" behind the man's name they so they didn't care at all. Maybe if he belonged to MEChA there would be some sympathy.
