72% of New York State 12th Graders Fail Regents Math Exam. Test Will Be Regraded.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- State officials have regraded a standardized math test that most New York high-schoolers failed this year, transforming failing marks into passing ones for thousands of students.

Rather than rescoring all the math Regents exams, the state Department of Education released tables Friday to regrade the tests to more closely match the 2002 test results. For example, a ninth- or 10th-grader who received a 47 percent or 48 percent score in June now has a passing grade of 65.

Doesn't this sound familiar? Lofty educational goals are announced by politicians and when those goals aren't met they very quietly lower the bar, a/k/a "dumbing down."

It's obviously a racist test.

What do blacks and hispanics know about snow?

"It's obviously a racist test. "

That excuse was the BIG LIE 20 years ago to present.

Then they sanitized the test of racism (dumbed down).

What is the excuse now?

The lesson: ACCEPT NO EXCUSES ANYMORE, PERIOD.

This is truly dumbing down at its finest. I had dinner with a young college freshman who did not know we dropped atomic bombs in Japan. He expressed surprise , I said Truman did it and he said "WHO?" We are finished.

Once again, the liberal programs have failed. And once again, the liberals are subverting the will of the people.

The demise of America is near.

Affirmative action used a process called "race norming". They added points for being black or hispanic and took points off for being white or asian. Just to make it "fair". When you meddle with the results of a standardized test, you might as well just shred it. It becomes meaningless. The results are no good to the test taker as a reflection of accomplishment. The test administrator no longer has a valid comparison of performance against a standard nor a correct comparison of relative performance within the test taking group.

It appears the group performed at a lower level than the prior year. Nobody bothered to ask why. They simply "normed" the results to look like the previous year. Now they have no means of examining the failure, determining the cause and correcting the problem, but everybody has high self esteem. Isn't that special?

Did you mention that we won the war? Something like that could have had a big effect on the fact that he was able to graduate from college and continue with his right to free speech.

Meanwhile over at a meeting of Fabian Socialist in New York, a Hillary Clinton worshipper walks up to the podium and roars:

"All I have to say is the failure of these shoolchildren is another stunning victory for the underminers of America. Now all that has to be done is get the other 20 percent disinterested enough in academics by feeding them even more ridiculous nonsense instead of an education. We must also increase the number we are putting on Ridilin! Perhaps we will soon see the glorious day when not one person can pass this exam!".

"Congratulations to you and all the fellow travellers in the NEA, the media and the schools who have done so much to destroy the evil bourgeouis symbol of America and let the opressed take over the world. Noam Chomsky, Lenin and Stalin are all smiling at you today!"

They are doing this in Alaska now, too. It is completely unacceptable to the politicians (and that includes school boards) to have the majority of "students" fail these already-dumbed-down tests.

I took the New York Regents in another decade- and they were TOUGH. Pass, you get a diploma. Fail, and you don't.

Those days are over. Now we sit around and whine because most of our science and engineering graduates are foreign-born. I wonder why that is?

Dim/lib bolsheviks insist that the GUH-REEEDY corporations are sending jobs off shore because foreign workers will work for less - an equal if not more important reason is because our kids DON'T KNOW ANYTHING! Do you think the students in India have to have their tests "regraded".

Home school, if care about your child's future, you must home school. I wouldn't even trust the private schools anymore.

As a homeschooler, I always wonder what these tests look like. I keep hearing about these various tests that students or teachers can't pass, but the test itself is NEVER published. I bet if they were, more people would finally be outraged.

the test itself is NEVER published..

Several months ago one of the tests in PDF format was linked in a thread here on FR. If I recall correctly, it was a Florida exam. It was not as dumbed down as I had expected. One of its strong points was an emphasis on reasoning. Many of the questions could be answered correctly if one could think logically.
