Schwarzenegger Statement on the Endorsement of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association
I am honored to announce that I have received the endorsement of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. I would like to thank the members of the Association, because this means a great deal to me and to our campaign.
I have been a firm supporter of Proposition 13 for many years. I continue to strongly support it, and will continue to defend it. Think what a worse mess California would be in today if not for Prop. 13.
The Association and I worked together on Prop. 49 and now we are working together again. Our elected officials have created a budget crisis, and an economic situation that is driving businesses and jobs to other states.
All this was entirely avoidable if Sacramento had followed the common sense principles of Howard Jarvis and Ronald Reagan. They believed and I believe that we dont have a multi-billion dollar debt because we arent taxed enough; we have a multi-billion dollar debt because we spend too much.
Sacramento cannot say no to higher spending and taxes. Well, I can, and that is what I intend to do as governor.
Again, I want to thank the Association for this important endorsement, and I look forward to working together with the Association to bring some sanity to Sacramentos spending and taxing.

I understand and have seen him referred to both ways :-)
I think Arnold does have solid libertarian-leanings when it comes to government and the economy. He also attended Reason Foundation dinners regularly, per John Fund at WSJ.

I've been called worse.
I've been told I'm not much of a Christian, and been mocked for my tagline and scorned by friend for whom I've stood up time and again, because I will probably vote for Schwarzenegger.
It may get lower than that, but I can't think offhand of how.

You left out "principled."
The folks you are poking fun of are principled, or at least believe that of themselves. If you want them on your side, poking fun of them is counterproductive.
You ought to recognize that even "hard" principled people who are not inclined to compromise are good people, entitled to express their principles at the voting booth.

I really try not to judge others' walks with God, unless they're really going out of their way to play the Pharisee in the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector. I'm not 100% perfect in that regard. I just keep trying.
God bless you, Dan.

In addition to endorsing him, we are strongly recommending that Schwarzenegger find a prominent place for the wise counsel of both McClintock and Ueberroth in his administration.
I'm betting they wouldn't accept.

Could somebody tell THEM that little detail? They've made it abundantly clear that they don't want the votes of the impure and unwashed people like me.

We're told that Arnold isn't a conservative, and is a "Republican In Name Only" (RINO), but he's supported by.... One can be a Republican without being a conservative, but I haven't called Schwarzenegger a RINO. It's not productive to label people like Riordan or Bloomberg "RINO's" or "DIABLO's"; nor is it any good to use names like "Benedict Arnold" or "Mcnader." It's better to bring up a candidate's issues and policies, both positive and negative. Those are what will convert a person, not name-calling, pointless arguing, or even endorsements.
Before I "saw the light" and started reading FR, I used to think Feinstein was a great Senator. Why? No reason in particular... I didn't know her policies at all and I was apolitical, but she seemed like a great person with respectability, patience/moderation, etc.(*choke/gag*). Now I know her views on issues and policies are so different from mine, and I see how destructive she is. I changed my support based on issues, not on people calling her ChiFi or Feinswine or on what endorsements her opponent Tom Campbell got.
Schwarzenegger has supported the Prop 13 cause according to HJTA. He thinks we have the right to bear arms but supports strong gun controls, according to various sources. Both have been discusses on FR, and unless he says things more publicly, I'm resigned to evaluating him based on what I have seen on those and several other issues, but I don't feel very strongly for him because some sources contradict others, and he doesn't seem to clarify his meaning.
Instead of criticizing most Freepers for the words of a small handful (not you specifically, but there are a few on both sides), it's better to stick to the real issues on these news threads. Please take the petty insults to the Chat(General Interest) threads.
