He is a Republican, and the only House of Representative member from South Dakota.

It doesn't make a difference. He was speeding, ran a stop sign and killed someone. He should not get any favors or a sweetheart plea bargain offer.

I agree, he should go. But not before Ted Kennedy holds the door open for him.

Get serious. There's a big difference between Jankklow and Kennedy.

Janklow's a Republican, Kennedy's a Democrat.

Kennedy has immunity.

With Janklow it may not be a BIG difference.

He has been let off easy many times before. It is said he bragged of having a lead foot.

Why do these guys always injure someone other than themselves?

Wonder if Thune will drop out of the senate race now, which is only a 50-50 proposition at best, and go for the sure thing of reclaiming his old House seat.

"Crat or Pubbie?"

Reckless driver. Non-partisan offense. Demonstrates disregard for fellow citizens' lives and wellbeing.

Also known as arrogant politician. Also non-partisan.

Which one?

Kennedy, Clinton or Janklow?

Did you hear this?

"Senator Robert Byrd rear ended another car in a rented Cadillac on his way back home in West VA. about 5 years ago. He was charged by the local police. However, "The Dean of Senate" produced a little known law that a Congressman could not be indicted while Congress was in session.

The case was dismissed. The poor guy he rear ended had to pay for the repairs to his car."

Well, I think the time is now when the party in SD has to start looking at replacement candidates. Especially if this seat has to be defended in a special election. Either way, Janklow will not be returning for the 109th Congress.

I would not want Thune running to get his old seat back. I'd rather have someone fresh get the House seat because Thune is the only chance we have of beating Daschle.

He's Republican, but that doesn't matter. If you go howling through a stop sign at 71 mph, that's just non-partisan stupidity. And apparently this guy's shown a pattern of being a high-speed driver.

Speed by itself isn't a problem. But blowing a stop sign at seventy-plus? If that ain't reckless disregard for the lives of other people on that highway, then not much else is.

It DOES matter in terms of the consequences of his actions.

If the guy is guilty, they ought to throw the book at him.

History demonstrates, however, that as a Republican (see Nixon, Gingrich, Packwood, Livingston, et al) he's far more likely to get struck in the head by "the book" than if he were a Democrat.

Different scenario, same pattern: you'll notice they've dragged out a Schwarzenegger magazine interview from 25 YEARS AGO in which he discusses his wild sex life at the time. Ostensibly, this is supposed to call into question his fitness for office.

After 8 lovely Clinton years, I would find this apparent Democrat political hit on Schwarzenegger to be laughable, if it weren't so serious.
