[history]
Residents of counties characterized by urban sprawl are more likely to weigh more, be obese and have high blood pressure, according to a new study.
While it seems logical that people living in compact cities would walk and bike more, reaping the health benefits of exercise, this is the first large-scale nationwide study to both link sprawl with negative health outcomes and to quantify them. The study, involving researchers from several major universities and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was released Thursday in the American Journal of Health Promotion.

I see. So now we need to abandon the country-side. Evacuate rural America and fly-over territory and head for your nearest rat-indoctrination or ELF/PETA educational center/city.

First the Dems need to ruin the education of the youth (they're more gullible that way).

You can just see it coming, can't you? They'll get me off our 80 acres in a pine box.

...Reid Ewing, the lead author of the study and a research professor for the National Center for Smart Growth at the University of Maryland.Another BS "study" with a predetermined outcome.
I hate to seem to be beating a dead horse but "Smart Growth" is "Agenda 21" and the "obesity" scam is just the latest drumbeat.

Instead of rebuilding the cities, why not just join a gym?
What a ridiculous study. What pathetic group of taxpayers were bilked to fund this waste of time?

Its your cooking that is behind this!Just because my pie recipies call for a half dozen eggs and a cup of heavy whipping cream does not make them fattening.

What utter Barbara Streisand. This same thing keeps popping up. I live in a suburban neighborhood, and I don't seen any overweight people. I walk the neighborhood in the evenings, and I see my neighbors doing the same thing I am: walking their dogs, doing yard work, gardening. Not a fattie among them. Just because we don't walk to work (too far, commuting is in order) or to the grocery store (it's a mile away, but I don't want to haul a load of groceries on my back or in a bycycle bag) doesn't mean we're sedentary. This is just propaganda to try to force people into cities and high rise dwellings.

Funny you say that, I too, see very few heavy people in my little country town. At school events, chuch and out&about town most people are "normal" and "average" weight. The fat people you always read about aren't the norm around us.

And, as an aside, I see that I didn't preview my reply. I don't seen any?!! Yikes.
Anyway, I do see a few heavy people when I'm out and about, but when I go in to San Francisco, I see at least as many hefty people as I see out in the 'burbs.
