Hillary: She's Now Open to 2004 Prez Bid

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has subtly but carefully altered her stance on running for president in 2004.

Senator Clinton has made some revealing statements while on her book tour in Europe that indicate she is moving to a 2004 run.

During her trip to London this weekend, Mrs. Clinton hinted during a television interview that a 2004 run "might happen."

Appearing Friday on BBC Channel 4's "Richard and Judy Show," Mrs. Clinton was pressed on whether she might challenge President Bush as early as next year.

"You never know what might happen," she told the TV duo, after first dismissing as "rumors" reports that she was considering a run in 2004.

The day before, Mrs. Clinton was challenged by BCC radio interviewer Martha Kearney, who complained that the top Democrat's often-repeated answer that she has "no intention" of running for president in either 2004 or 2008 "doesn't really rule anything out, does it?"

"Well, but it is as close as I can come," Mrs. Clinton responded.

In previous interviews with American reporters, the former first lady had been unequivocal about not running in 2004. "Absolutely, I'd say no," she told ABC's Barbara Walters, who asked last month if she'd accept a draft.

Pressed on her plans for 2008, Mrs. Clinton dispensed with her usual "no intention" denial altogether, telling Kearney, "Well, 2008 is a long - you know, you cover politics - that's an eternity in American politics. But I think that the role I'm playing, trying to bring attention to issues, trying to get people to focus on what's at stake, is a very appropriate role for me."

Just three weeks ago, when asked by ABC's Barbara Walters if she might run in 2004, Mrs. Clinton's denial was rock solid.

But sinking poll numbers for President Bush, continuing weakness in the U.S. economy, and the failure of a clear Democratic front-runner to emerge -- all may be factors leading Mrs. Clinton to re-think her plans for 2004.

Oh please, Condi Rice? Who are you kidding? Do you like being victimized by the left? I know I don't. They will turn her into an "Uncle Tommett."

Is that really what you want? I would rather change the constitution and draft Arnold before becoming a pawn of the left.

Hillary knows that it wouldn't be a good idea to run for President in France, as they have a history of getting a little "pre-mentrual."

If you don't know what I am talking, then let me put it this way, does "Marie Antionette" ring a bell?

The lack of ability to muster even a modicum of objectivity is breathtaking.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Exactly what I have bee warning here for months. I have the same sick feeling in my stomach that you do. A few months ago, I warned here that one bad debate, and Bush could blow it.

People here are political midgets, they do not know the trends of elections past. Even upto a couple of weeks before the election of 1980, Ronald Reagan and Carter were tied statistically. No one was sure who would win. Same story in 1984, up towards the very end polls should a close race. People here do not realize how races break away in the last week before the election because of our ill-informed electorate.

You are right, she will run. And I believe Gore will be her VP. They will say Payback Time.

For one thing, John Ashcroft was victimized by vote fraud. There will much better anti-fraud efforts in '04.

Here's my take...her decision will have nothing to do with Dean. She knows she can beat anybody on the RAT bench. Her decision will rest solely on whether she thinks GWB is vulnerable. That will be the one and only consideration. Be afraid. Be very afraid...

I don't understand your Condi Rice -- pawn of the left comment. She's smarter than HRC and she's right (not left).

BUT remember YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST. The ticket for 2004: Prez: Wesley Clark (4 star general, big lib). VP: HRC. Clark promises to serve one term. She runs in 2008 as VP, incumbent. Wins. THREE TERMS FOR HILLERY.

Run for the hills!!

she will win the presidency.

Another defeatist loser in the spell of the Clintons.

If Hitlery decides to run in 04, all existing records for negative turnout will be broken! I'll bet large sums of hard money she gets utterly crushed.

I predicted again and again before that 02 elections that it was going to be a GOP Tsunami, even when most (including Freeper defeatists like you) said it would be close.

You, sir, are an optimist.

I'm worried about VICE President Rodham-Clinton, too. But for slightly different reasons.

Think it through:

• She keeps he promise not to run for president in '04
• Two years and one day into her term the first slotter gets arkincided
• Under Article XXII, she can still run for two full terms as the incumbent
• The Glorious Hillary!™ Decade begins
• Hillary uses the Patriot Act to it's fullest extent, and beyond
• At the end of the Glorious Hillary!™ Decade there is a National Emergency "temporarily" delaying the elections
• Under the pressure of the National Emergency, the 2nd and 22nd amendments are repealed...

Bring it on.

Hillery would provide new meaning to the term "negative turnout."

We might even take TEN Senate seats.

Ruthless. Dirtiest. Manipulative. Dysfunctional. Yep, you've nailed it. Despite all this, tons will flock to and vote for her. I can only atrribute it to the power of evil. For while I've always thought Bill stood for nothing, that he truly is a shallow, petty, trite human being who just wanted to have a large time. She's different. VERY different.

I used to live and breathe this stuff. Not any more. For starters, my stomach feels better. :-) Moving beyond the gastric issues, I've discovered something else: By following political events reasonably instead of obsessively, the big picture becomes MUCH clearer. You start to see how things really are, instead of getting all caught up in the rah-rah emotions that convince you they're what you want them to be. And one of the most important big-picture points to remember is that this country elected them to the presidency not once, but twice. That second time, when their corruption and sorriness was undeniable, spoke volumes about the mindset of the populace. Sad but true. A country that will do that, is a country that will do anything.

Thanks, and you're welcome.

Are you kidding? Not all the GOP women I know! And I'm a woman, and I wouldn't have Hillary for president on a paper plate! Good grief! Give us some credit for intelligence once in awhile, will you?

Maybe it's time to start reminding people of the 1994 HillaryCare plan. (That's the one thing that gives me the slightest bit of hope that she won't be elected.) And it's time for the Pubbies to start playing DirtyDim style.

Yes, she's different. It was in reading many of the books on Bill that I came to understand that she was the most dangerous person in the White House.

Be afraid. Be very afraid...

Worth repeating.

The thought of Hillary in the Oval Office as President is enough to make me think about moving my whole family to a remote island in the Pacific.

I predicted Hitlery's decisive win in NY. I am not a defeatist; I am a realist.

You underestimate the number of Leftists and Libs and Dems and females who will think it just swell that a woman would be president -- regardless of who that woman is.

Any woman who values the life of her family wants Bush at the helm at least until this terrorist threat is over.

I think you are right. I know a number of female, black, Democrat voters who live in the DC area. They have not forgotten 9/11. They are very happy Bush has been a 'cowboy' and are all planning to vote for Bush, even tho it is killing them to think they will vote Republican.

One of my sisters teaches in a DC school. When they had to get their 3 day kit together to leave at the school (school children had to do the same), that was it for her. Party loyalty be damned; she feels she has to vote for Bush.
