Should Schwarzenegger quit?

Not really. Nor do we think Republicans Tom McClintock and Peter Ueberroth should get out of the race. At least not yet.

Well, maybe Mr. Ueberroth should. His blandness and lack of energy will not do.

The Democrats already have their Gray candidate. What's more, Mr. Ueberroth doesn't seem to be much more specific than Arnold Schwarzenegger, the frontrunner among Republicans currently in the race. But, then again, Mr. Ueberroth's nonpartisan pitch overrides his token Republicanism. For example, he's the only Republican in the race to oppose Proposition 187, the 1994 initiative barring state benefits to illegal aliens. Does this country-club Republican think he'll get Latino voters away from Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante? Indeed, in this crazy election, Mr. Ueberroth could end up with more Democrats and independent voters than Republicans.

Alright! You're really coming along now! You forgot the number one reason not to vote for McClintock.

He's a lying RINO piece of garbage.

Did you read what you wrote? Not to vote for McClintonock is a lying RINO piece of garbage? I mean, I applaud you for coming around, but thats a little severe on Tommyboy.

He can't win.

Since you are into the crystal ball prophesy thing, here's mine:

Arnold will be crucified by the media (searching for any weakness in a potential Republican winner, and using it to elect any liberal) for his libertine past. And especially if McClintock resigns, since at that point Republicans would have no major-draw alternative and Bustamante would win by default.

So (by that analysis) supporting Arnold is supporting Bustamante.

The fact that Arnold-bots keep repeating McClintock is a lost cause is comedy. I guess the vehicle tax rollback was a lost cause? And McClintock would not have won Controller if Simon had not stepped in the Davis photo trap doo-doo and diverged from his talking points in 2002? And McClintock is not a perennial winner in his own district? It's not tough to figure out that the Arnold bots have a "pucker factor" whenever they are called upon by circumstances to uphold the principles they profess to live by. (Obligatory sheesh ;-)

Anagram of Schwarzenegger:

RAH SCREW EGG ZEN

Interpretation: RAH = cheer!, SCREW = screw, EGG = offspring, ZEN = consequences.

In other words: "Hurray for our guy and screw the results/consequences"

When he started, Mr. Schwarzenegger boldly said he would bankroll his campaign.

He didn't say that. What he said was that he did not NEED to take money. Therefore he would not make promises to those who would make contributions. Meaning they could give if they wanted to but they could expect no favors from him in return.

Not true. In Arnold was not in the race, McClintock could beat Bustamante.

There are plausible scenarios in which Arnold could drop out. Already the stories of drug use and orgies have come out, and there are reports of sexual harassment in the wings. If any of that dirt begins to really threaten his personal life, he could bow out of the race.

Arnold's skeletons may not be that dangerous, but it is quite possible they could run him out of the race.

Folks I love McClintock and agree with him on most issues. But there is no way he can be governor of this state in this upcoming election. He might win if both Cruz and Arnold drops out. But thats it. The votes just are not there for a conservative.

Me neither.

Of course I am not voting at all in the California circus election, unless we can find a way for me to do as a resident of another state. In that case I cast my support for the "short" ticket.

Um...yeah.

PS: where did you get the idea that Zen = consequences? Are you confusing Zen with karma?

He's also a dual citizen of Austria

Hadn't heard that. I thought that naturalization carried with it a renunciation of prior citizenship(s). Can you link me to something on his dual citizenship? Couldn't find anything with web searches for his name and "dual citizen," etc.

Oops! Wrong Eastern religious comparison.

From now on, I'll stay away from heathen analogies.

I don't think that's true. McClintock has zippo name recognition, plus as much as I hate to say it, I do not belive a conservative can win a statewide office in CA until a lot of things in CA change. Change will come from the center gradually rightward, not in one big jump to the right.

Really? Cite your source.

This is Davis backing Simon over Riordan all over again. And this time you're helping

SFGate.com

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- State Sen. Tom McClintock makes no apologies for aggressively seeking campaign contributions from California's gambling-rich Indian tribes, saying his support for tribal issues goes back years before the state legalized Indian gambling.

"I stood with them long before they were powerful or a special interest," McClintock said Tuesday after unveiling a television ad in which he promised that as governor he would "challenge the spending lobby" he said controls Sacramento politics.

McClintock criticized Gov. Gray Davis' efforts to get the tribes, which as sovereign nations do not pay taxes to the state, to contribute more money to California programs.

"I do not believe that the tribes should have to pay tribute to the state to maintain that sovereignty," he said.

He also disagreed with current state regulations limiting the number of slot machines a tribe can operate to 2,000.

McClintock campaign director John Feliz said he expects the tribes will support both the Republican McClintock and Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, another longtime tribal supporter.

Indian tribes have become some of the state's top political donors since scores of them signed deals three years ago to operate casinos, and they are expected to give heavily during the remainder of the recall campaign.

Guess it depends on what the meaning of "is is"? You people would make even Clinton blush.

Could somebody please explain this paragraph? "the culprits" seem to refer to the insurance companies. How does Schwarzenegger hire the companies?

Arnold hired Marty Wilson who was one of Quackenbush's top staffers in the middle of that scandal.

"Yes! (R)nold is splitting the Republican vote. He should drop out for the good of the State of California. A vote for (R)nold is a vote for Bustamove!"

That's a rather ignorant statement. Do you think it was Al Gore or Ralph Nader that split the liberal vote?

For future reference, it's usually the the guy in the back, in this case the WWAAAYYYYYY back (I.E. Ralph Nader, Tommy McButtocks) whom are the ones that are responsible for splitting the vote.

The way I understand it, the USA does not acknowledge dual citizenship, except for maybe Costa Rico for some reason and I don't know if thats changed, but the home country may continue to recognize the individual as a citizen, and will accept that citizen back if that is desired.
