No one can question McClintock on this thread, but I just left an Arnold S thread, and you guys were all over it with rants, naysayer negativity and inane comments. Could someone help me with the rules...
Much obliged.

On threads yesterday the Arnold fans were beating
their chests about the great poll that Congressmen Drier
said was coming out yesterday evening showing
Arnold way ahead. Was supposed to be ABC poll
no such poll is on their webpage.
Anyone know anymore about this?
To: MACVSOG68
Which thread?
Was it an article about Arnold, or essentially this thread with AS instead of MCC as the name?
And don't worry, the Schwarzenegger goons will be along here soon enough.

This is a "quiet zone". There should be one for the other candidates as well. More for information dissemination or answers to specific questions. Ideally, people come here for info and go to other threads to rant. You'll see many of us vigorously arguing on other threads - but typically won't rise to the bait on this one.

Q. Is the vote going to split?
A. Campaign will sort out issues. Tom making gains. AS static in polls despite tremendous media coverage.
Voters can decide for themselves who they want.
Q. Ralph Nadar comparison
A. Tom discounts.
Q. What if it goes to AS and Tom.
A. Voters made the decision - not for candidates to decide.
Q. Hammers on vote split
A. Consistantly up to the voters to decide. Don't short change the voter.
Review: Tom put on the defensive about the vote split. Holds his ground that it is up to the voter to decide.
Prop. 187
Was never defended in court by the Governor. Will be his one of his first acts. Fair day in court.

KFI Interview
Q. How will you differentiate yourself?
A. Has 20 years in CA in public arena. Consistantly fiscally conservative.
Q. How will you convince people?
A. AS and Ub know what they know best (acting, business). He knows government best.
Caller question:
If you don't get in, will you claim responsible for splitting the vote.
A. Tom says AS should look at his part on splitting the vote. Let the campaign go forward, reserve judgement until election day.

I missed the interview. How did it go? Where does Bill Handel stand?

Out of a column by Jill Stewart in our local weekly liberal rag - The Ventura County Reporter
"Right-wingers are into Republican murder-suicide pacts, in which they attack any moderate Republican who can win. They dont want victory, just a bullhorn.
Is it possible a true conservative could win? Its very unlikely, but out of nowhere Tom McClintock raised more than $1.5 million in cash and pledges. McClintock (the sole legislator to vote against the infamous prison guards pay raise) is known for not raising much money and not helping special interests.
McClintock is conservative with a libertarian streak, but is popular among the liberal Sacramento press corps because he gets his numbers right, understands the budget better than Davis and is imminently quotable.
Those qualities landed McClintock on dozens of talk shows this montha big change for a guy who couldnt get coverage last year when he nearly beat Steve Westly for controller. Westly outspent him 10 to 1. McClintock lost by less than 1 percent.
Last night Tom almost became our Howard Deanwe raised more than $10,000 in one day on the Internet, says Feliz.
Rich Indian tribes may underwrite McClintocks campaign, to help him draw votes from Arnold so their man, Bustamante, can win. Whateverits politics!"

I don't know Bill H.'s style - he was very aggressive. Pushed the split vote senario quite a bit. Tom was consistant in his response - it's up to the voters to decide on who they want to vote for, not the candidates.
Bill put Tom on the defensive for most of the interview but Tom didn't come off as "defensive". He was matter of fact and kept his wits about him.
Bill didn't strike me as a Tom fan but he could just have an abrasive "air personality". Maybe someone else can give perspective.

Handel is always "in yo face" LOL...I just caught Handel and he complimented McClintock for being a "man of conviction" in that Mac has always been against raising taxes for 20 years including the bond issues which we all know have to have taxes to pay off. Mac is the only one who has made the pledge not to raise taxes. McClintock ad on radio now! Excellent ad!

Although I favor Schwarzenegger, who is more of a pure Republican, I would like to note that McClintock gave a very impressive performance on KGO radio (San Francisco) this morning. His comments on cutting government costs were specific and well presented.
Ueberroth was on later and did not do nearly as well. KGO plans to have both men (and others if available) on regularly to answer questions.
Let's see how the campaign unfolds. I expect Ueberroth to drop out eventually, while Schwarzenegger and McClintock will both stay in until near the end, at which point I hope they have they good sense to combine forces. The prospect of replacing Davis with Bustamante does not really excite me.

I have listened to Bill for the last 20 minutes (not a long time, admittedly), and I think he mostly has that "abrasive air personality" that you referred to. He did mention some positive things about Tom, such as his major increase in support with relatively little money.
