6:30PM U.S. consumer attitudes stuck in rut: ABC/Money by Anne Stanley WASHINGTON (CBS.MW) --- U.S. consumers remain skeptical about the economic recovery, according to a weekly survey published Tuesday by ABC and Money magazine. The ABC/Money consumer comfort index fell to negative 17 in the latest week from negative 16 a week ago. The index has been stuck between negative 21 and negative 16 for three months. The survey shows a wide gap between perceptions of personal finances and the overall economy. Thirty-one percent say the economy is excellent or good, up from 29 percent a week ago and the highest level so far in 2003. Nearly twice as many -- 56 percent -- say their own finances are excellent or good, down from 59 percent a week ago. Thirty-eight percent say it's a good time to buy things they want or need, unchanged from last week. The index is based on 1,000 interviews spread over four weeks.

Here is the best demonstration one can find of the liberal media's propoganda machine darkening the mood of the people against the current administration!!!

It's real easy ta steal! It don't werk in ATM's! Nobudy but hermits, recluses or social outcasts wants it!

Media creates "index" out of thin air and then reports on their own "news." Yawn.

You try sitting on a pile of gold bars and see if your comfort index doesn't go negative.

One the first things that I did when I retired about 9 years ago was to cancel my Money subscription. When I really got into self managing our funds, I realized that Money was not a friend nor an ally.

It is a left wing politically correct waste of money to subscribe too. My dead dog gave better financial advise than Money Mag did and does.

Of course ABC is owned by the Pro Gay Disney maggots headed by Eisner.

I stopped watching ABC during the 1992 election when Jennings would come on every night and lie about president Bush and not tell the truth about Bubba Clintoon.

Good advice.......ABC under Eisner is the liberal agenda's mouthpiece. Jennings has no credibility whatsoever.

I agree. The media have been harping over the economy, and yet the economy is doing quite well overall. So has the stock market since it bottomed in mid-march.

Yes! Mrs. Wasp's birthday is March 12 and I helped her buy her first mutual fund which has gone WILD ever since. Actually, they tell me the market bottomed back in October of '02, technically.

Today, Rush kept saying how some of us fear the constant slanting of the media and he thinks we might as well quit worrying about it as they are losing credibility with the public in grand fashion. They seem to have no clue that they are boring and irritating us to tears... tears of pain!!!

Thank goodness for FR and talk radio so we don't feel as alone as we did in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's!!!

Hey Liz! Them's pretty juicy rotten tamatas!!! Don't let Steve Peace see them or he'll make another sick sequel to "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!" (Like his attack of the tripled CAR TAX!!!)

Oh, I dunno, that flick had more going for it than Hollywarped's current obscene output. LOL.

If the real Jennings was around to bing with some Sacramento Valley Tomatoes, that would be fun.

However, my wife would move me outside if I did that in our family room and hit our tv when Jennings was lying as usual.

Doesn't jibe with recent consumer confidence ratings in the 80's, highest in 3 months if I'm not mistaken.

Actually you can add the 90's to your statement: "Thank goodness for FR and talk radio so we don't feel as alone as we did in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's!!!"

Talk radio let us know that we weren't alone. However the sense of community was very one way, and seldom did conservative listeners get involved to be noticed and impact the rats.

The 2000 election and Free Republic has changed that for the better. Thanks to Free Repbulic we are not alone, and we have a community that can make good things happen or stop bad things.

But are we stopping the squabbling and squandering in CA that appears to even have a distasteful effect on FR these days?

The squabbling and squandering of not only tax dollars, but of opportunities for the advancement of conservatism. Take a look at the daily collection of headlines from CA's newspapers on www.rtumble.com!

I know they are left leaning rags, but they are starting to hone in on AS's lack of definition on anything but his musculature! They will weaken him BIGTIME, by the "end of the day!"

Maybe we could throw at Jennings on TV those foam balls kids use. Wouldn't want Mrs Gramps to get upset.
