Florida governor asks judge to delay removal of woman's feeding tube
AP Wire (direct feed) | August 26, 2003

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Gov. Jeb Bush asked a judge Tuesday to delay setting a date for removal of a brain-damaged woman's feeding tube so that a guardian for her can be appointed.

In a letter to state Circuit Judge George W. Greer, Bush asked that Terri Schiavo be kept alive until a court-appointed guardian can ``independently investigate the circumstances of this case and provide the court with an unbiased view that considers the best interests of Mrs. Schiavo.'' Bush said his office has received 27,000 e-mails from people asking him to intervene.

Schiavo has been in what doctors call a persistent vegetative state since collapsing in 1990. Her heart stopped from what doctors believe was a potassium imbalance. The 39-year-old woman has been at the center of a long legal battle between her parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and her husband and legal guardian, Michael Schiavo. The parents want her kept alive; her husband says she never wanted to be kept alive artificially.

On Friday, the Florida Supreme Court refused to intervene in the case, clearing the way for Greer to set a date for removal of the feeding tube keeping her alive.

If this current "medical crisis" brings about her death, that's one thing. And I agree that the Parents need to be the ones to make this final decision, in light of the husband's current personal relationships. There does come a time when you just KNOW.

We have a good and kind-hearted Governor.

She has been dead since 1990, what is the point of keeping her body "alive", when her spirit left the building 13 years ago?! People should accept her death and move on.

Her spirit is still in there. A mother like this is tied to the soul of her child, and her mother says it is. She says she tries to talk to her and smiles when she enters the room.

If her mother says it is, than I believe It is.

This is not the first case I have heard of like this, every so often you hear of people who are totally cognizant and trapped in a body that won't respond. What a nightmare that would be. One woman I read about recovered after 5 years in a coma - more unresponsive than Terri - to the point where she wrote a book.

Granted, its rare, but with as much reaction as Terri seems to show, I wouldn't want to take that chance.

Thank you Governor Bush, since you are now a Catholic and member of the K of C, you will have to forget what your father believes, now please stop the turtle worship and let's protect humans created in the image of God.

Title X - Quotable Quotes
Read My Lips!

We need to make population and family planning household words. We need to take the sensationalism out of this topic so that it can no longer be usedby militants who have no real knowledge of the voluntary nature of the program but, rather, are using it as a political stepping stone. If family planning is anything, it is a public health matter.
Rep. George Bush, 1969

Most important is that legislation be recognized as ... a health-care service mechanism and not a population control mechanism.
Rep. George Bush, 1970

As we amended the Social Security Act in 1967, I was impressed by the sensible approach of Alan Guttmacher, the obstetrician who served as president of Planned Parenthood. It was ridiculous, he told the committee, to blame mothers on welfare for having too many children when the clinics and hospitals they used were absolutely prohibited from saying a word about birth control. So we took the lead in Congress in providing money and urging -- in fact requiring -- that in the United States family planning services be available for every woman, not just the private patient with her own gynecologist.

In the JEB state of FL, a turtle egg is more revered and protected than a human being created in God's image.  Florida Law Chapter 370

Mess with a turtle egg and get a yr. in jail and a $50K fine, abort a child, get paid $750.00, I think JEB Bush and the US congress should address this issue. And we wonder why there is NO respect for HUMAN life created in God's image. OK, every in the pool and flap your fins and keep your offspring buried in the sand; we're turtles now.

Some immortal words from Michael Schiavo...

One sign of the case's nastiness is the Schindlers' complaint that Schiavo limits their visits with their daughter. They also say he has refused to allow doctors to examine her, refused her antibiotics and needed dental work, refused to replace a broken wheelchair so she could be taken outdoors and refused the delivery of flowers from a friend to her room on her birthday.

"Her teeth are fine; she doesn't eat," Michael Schiavo said. "Why take her to a gynecologist? She was supposed to die months ago. I don't want her room filled with flowers from strangers or right-to-life activists. Even though she is vegetative she has a right to privacy."

Judge won't budge. Clearwater Courthouse main number: 727-464-3000. Or, find Pinellas County Clerk of Courts' web site and email them.

Need help finding Fla AG Crist's phone number in Tally.

Hubby must be concerned about the cost of prescription drugs - you know how costly antibiotics are as are trips to one of the best hospitals in the country.

He's obsessed with her demise instead of letting her parents take care of her. That would be a loving gesture wouldn't it?

Important stand by Gov. Jeb Bush in Florida. This country is at another crossroads with this one. If Terri's husband is allowed to murder her, this will open another "Pandora’s box" that cannot be easily closed. The state in this case is about to play God, deciding if an innocent person should live or die.
