how to fix my laptop? It must have picked up that bug that bounces you off and shuts down the computer after a few seconds.
I tried to run my anti virus software but it just bounced me off again. I am not that savy (obviously) with computer stuff so any help would be appreciated

Are you logged in? (Alright, I couldn't help myself!)
Seriously, are you using America On Line (AOL)?

You need a bootable disk with antivirus software on...
Or a bootable disk with fdisk.exe and format.exe on it...ouch

Press Control+Alt+Delete, and turn off MSBlaster.exe in the task manager. Then you should be able to run the antivirus or XP Security patch. If you have the patch on disk, you can also boot in safe mode and run it.

There have been a few threads on this. Try putting "virus" in the keyword search...

Go to
www.microsoft.com. Look for the link at the top-right which says "PC Affected By The Worm? Specific actions for Blaster worm."

If ffyou know the kind of virus you can download (from another computer) a specific virus fixer from Symantec. If you don't know the specific type you can buy or borrow a bootable Norton CD that will fix the computer. It helps if you have the latest virus definitions on a floppy disk. You may need help from someone who can get you this stuff.

Wow, seems like our fellow freepers are not much help here. It sounds like you may have the W32.Blaster.Worm/LoveSan worm. I know others who were infected with this. If this is what you have, ignore whatever anyone else says and go directly to
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html.
Scroll down to "Manual Removal" and follow the instructions there very carefully. This method is proven to work with this worm.
Best regards!

Not necessarily so. A lot of virii live in the boot sector and reformatting won't wipe them out. Fdisk would do it (you might know all this so pardon me if you do - my sarcasm meter wasn't getting a reading on your post).
On another note, one of my email joke subscriptions was either spammed or hacked yesterday with virus attachments being sent. I was bombarded with them, maybe 30 emails containing various virii through the day. It was a Yahoo Group, and the group moderator says the bad messages were the result of a hack at Yahoo itself. I'm not sure about that, but the mails did at least spoof the moderator's Yahoo account. The virii were mostly simple .exe attachments, but there were some scripts thrown in too. Ya gotta be double careful with them, just about any Micro$oft email client will run them by default.
On to that MSBlaster worm, what others have said here works. Get the patch from Microsoft, or if you just can't get stable enough to get online, a lot of small computer shops will give you the fix on a disk. FR might have saved me from this one. The news was here the day before it really started hitting hard and heavy, and I grabbed the patch right away. Two days later about half the folks at work had been hit by it, but by then my co-worker and I had made a package of patches for all the affected systems and we had people waiting in line while we burned disks.
