McClintock now has a clear field - - conservatives have one horse to ride!

With Simon out, there's only one conservative in the race -- - McClintock's 1) the most experienced; 2) the most knowledgeable; 3) the one with the most well-articulated vision; 4) the one with Reagan-like CONVICTIONS (not convenient "opinions" adopted yesterday -- and subject to change tomorrow; 5) the one who's from the MIDDLE CLASS so he KNOWS that TAXES HURT -- he feels it in his bones, not through a focus group -- so we can trust him to keep his word.

NOTE: LYN NOFZIGER HAS JUST ENDORSED MCCLINTOCK!

I'd love to see McClintock destroy him in a debate.

And what good would that do?

GWB destroyed the tree in all three debates and California still voted for the tree. In fact, so did the majority of Americans.

What makes McClintock "unelectable"? Didn't he score more votes than Simon, and for a lesser-known office, and with a pitiful fraction of the money, in the last statewide election?

Yes, he did, when there was no other Republican on the ballot. In this free-for-all he will be lucky to get 10% because that is all the hard core conservatives the polls show Kalifornia as having.

Funny, long ago when I was a poor kid from a broken home, I somehow escaped a life of crime and prison without any help at all from the government.

I believe it was because of my faith in God, Jesus Christ and the Ten Commandments. You know the ones that the government are trying to ban from all public places?

I wonder what Arnie views are on that, eh??

I would prefer a liberal Democrat in office than a liberal Republican. I can't tell if Schwarzenegger is liberal or conservative. He may not know himself.

A liberal in the govenor's seat will lead the state further into the abyss. If that's what happens, please let it be a Rat at the helm.

However, an effective conservative can lead the state to prosperity and happiness. He will have to force the liberal Rat legislature to follow his lead, but the legislators should be shaken by Davis' recall and should be amenable to leadership.

...maybe you should follow the polls more closely and listen to the Latinos

And listen to latino radio & TV. Often the view of the news in those venues is quite different from what the rest of us read and hear. I learned that from having a South American, mostly Spanish speaking, woman working for me. Her interpretation of news stories on Spanich radio was sometimes at direct odds with what we heard on English radio.

The long-term problem I see with voting for Candidate Arnold is that it sends a message to the California GOP that we should only run Liberals under the Republican ticket. That's not a good precedent.

Conservatives are gonna have to face reality.
In this election it is gonna be either Ah-nold or Big Breasts.
Ah-nold isn't very good, but Bustamonte is horrible.

What is your state gonna look like after Bustamonte has run it for two terms?
This election is a salvage operation, not a chance to win big.

Why do you insist on splitting the Republican vote by supporting Arnold? GO MCCLINTOCK!

On the contrary; that is what you are going to end up doing. My suggestion would be to let Mcclintock and Arnold run it out for 3 more weeks and then whomever is clearly ahead runs for governor, with the other one's endorsement.

It'll send that message to Republicans NATIONWIDE --- it'll be a HUGE LIFT for LIBERAL, PRO-ABORT, PRO-GAY ADOPTION Republicans. I don't want to see the party turn in that direction, but an Arnold election would have that effect.

More likely it was because you were smart and worked your ass off, because that seems to be the secret of people of all religions, and of none, who succeed.

Or are you gonna claim that when a Bhuddist succeeds it is the result of Satanic influence?.

I just look at the numbers, cookie. They say that MrFourPercent can only be a spoiler in a tight race, and his supporters could be the difference between more Davis redux or a chance at turning things around. If Arnie was at 4%, I'd advise him and his supporters to pack it in, and unite with the frontrunner.

Willie Brown couldn't have said it better himself. Thanks for revealing your true colors as a liberal who believes more government programs are the answer to social problems that result from the social liberalism (divorce, out-of-wedlock births) that Arnie is fine with.

You don't know me. You don't know my background or my decades of involvment in the Republican Party; I am a staunch conservative. The fact that I recognize the need to try and control kids who are products of divorce and/or out of wedlock births doesn't change that. It does show, however, that I have a clearer understanding of the problem than you.

What would you do? Just let them run the streets? Our prisons are full of kids who grew up after being allowed to runs the streets. Compare the cost of running prisons to the cost of afterschool programs and you might, just might understand where I am coming from. Of course that would require an honest interpretation if the issue and it's clear you're being guided by your emotions.

So be it.

McClintock is so far behind in the polls, it's hard for me to take you seriously. I might think Alan Keyes is the greatest thing since Ronald Reagan, but he's never going to win a national campaign, and McC will never win this race. Polls aren't 100% accurate, but a 5-10% support range isn't going to bring him a victory. It's like hoping against hope that your 30 point underdog will win.

Because I think there are enough socially liberal Republicans in California that would rather vote for a socially liberal Democrat than a socially conservative Republican.

Most of California has Spanish language newspapers(some in both) and I have read their rags, and it had the effect of making me concerned that Bustamante does have a chance..

Well, Arnold publicly dissed Warren Buffet. He spoke with Art Laffer and Steve Forbes. I have hope for him now. I love McClintock, but he can't beat Arnold and Bustamante.

Haven't heard that chestnut since the "moderate" Republicans used it against Reagan in Republican primaries!

Perhaps you forgot the most recent election where the conservative, Bill Simon, was beaten by the unpopular liberal, Gray Davis.

I'm amused by all the denial. The Democrats control California. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only credible chance to break that lock at the present time. McClintock will simply split the anti-Davis/Bustamante vote, probably enough to elect Bustamante, assuming the recall succeeds.

Good point. I, too am the product of a dysfunctional broken home. My parents were both alcoholics who, at times, appeared to love alcohol than their family. But I was able to rise above it, perhaps because of my character. I have brothers, however, who weren't. One's addicted to chemicals and is doing 25 years to life for his third strike. Another is a member of the Hells Angels and, at 52, has spent more of his life in prison than out. Yet another is a Paster and the Chaplain of a Southern California police department.

While those of us who crawled from the hole we were in managed to do so on our own, a good argument could be made that with help, the others might have also.

And you need not tell me about the Ten Commandments. I live them everyday.
